1.
Ha ha, no, that really was the point, one with frets, one without. I don;t play retted often but once I got used to the Wal circuit (took a while), I found all other fretted basses a little lacking in tonal options. As it also took me a while to get used to the way the Wal balances and plays, and as my original fretless Wal was once fretted, the obvious choice seemed to be to get the original re-fretted and buy a new fretless. I knew exactly what I was looking for and up it popped in Seattle! Now selling my other six basses (did I ever need six), to pay for it and my B-15 as an insurance for the possibility of needing a new DB, but very happy I've gone the path I have. Problem is that at present I have two Wal FLs, one with rounds and one with flats, and love both equally. Do you see where I'm going with this
How are you getting on with the one with flats? When I got my fretless Mk1 it had nickles on it and sounded incredible... My default position with fretless is flats so I bought a set of la bellas (being my prefered option) and put them on. Only I found that I didn't like the tone anyway near as much as I did with the nickles, so I ended up putting them back on. ... Also in answer to your post above, you obviously need to keep both and source a fretted one
2.
Videos of TrevorR's Wal talk are now up - 4 parts. Apologies for the iffy sound and the shaking in some places - the acoustics of the large room and my position in the audience weren't always helpful. Part 1: https://youtu.be/Cot2EN0JrS0 Part 2: https://youtu.be/HpBzB-6IEnY Part 3: https://youtu.be/wZelMUtYF4A Part 4: https://youtu.be/qq4yNlIk6co I am writing the customary blog with photos, these vids and Trevor's visual presentation.
Great stuff Gives me something to watch this weekend.
3. Wow I missed this yesterday... What a looker Congratulations...He who dares and all that.
4.
it's in this set of photo's 14th row down, alongside my Modded natural p-bass and my Letts singlecut, there might be a photo of Jay playing it somewhere as well. https://www.facebook...=1&l=8640e97db3 Matt
Well it's certainly unique... what on earth possessed the previous owner to fill it with concrete?
5. This wouldn't work for me... when I get into bed it takes approximately four seconds for me to fall asleep.
6.
Good to see a band with 2 bassists...
I dunno... that would mean they had two members who weren't good enough to play the guitar
7. Six is enough for me... Although I do fancy trying a seven tuned BEADGBE, could be fun with the looper. I wouldn't want a bass with a neck so wide that it could no longer be played in the traditional way and basically became a tapping instrument.
8.
Can't you be ironically cool with a keytar these days?
No i'm afraid the keytar is beyond redemption... It isn't even cool in an ironic way.
9.
I'll see if I can sort some tonight, it started life as a hollow violin bass but the previous owner was convinced that a bass shouldn't be resonant so filled it with concrete, it's just about playable. I need to find it a new home really. Matt
Wow.. how does it sound?
10.
... I have a concrete bass...
You have a concrete bass? Any chance of a pic?
11. You do what? Buy a ticket for a gig you don't know who is playing at? ... I'll pass.
12. Looks like a winner to me I had a prog and the only thing that really needed changing was the stock strings as they were awful.. What's the string spacing like? That's an area that tends to suffer with budget sixers. I think HB stuff is great and ridiculously good value for money, hopefully this is another example
13. i understand your frustration but if you we're happy with the deal at the time and agreed to it then I don't really see that the other guy has done anything wrong... I'd be more annoyed at myself for undervaluing the amp and letting GAS get the better of me... Anyway, as you say, it remains to be seen if it sells for the higher price anyway
14. I often return home from work to find other objects in my house orbiting my basses... the bed, the fridge, Mrs C etc.
15. Definitely not either of my wals...
16. Any gigs in London coming up?
17. You guys have people who clap at your gigs?
18.
You need to get one of those keyboards you can wear on a strap & have a guitar type neck for holding onto!
My dad is the least style conscious man to have walked the earth and even he would draw the line at being seen in public with one of those...
19. This is starting to look like BCs first ever universally liked piece of gear
20. Great little amps these... Had mine for a couple of years. I pair mine with an EA wizzy 10 for an easily transportable set up. Great review as ever Mark... you've done this little beast justice
21.
My mate at work has loaned me his active 6 string Sandberg fretless and it's a lovely bass. Nice clean sounds and a gorgeous "mwah" to it
I've always liked sandbergs... often thought that these look good.
22. The headstock is bigger than my bass...
23.
... try practicing standing up, but with a mirror in front of you.
This gives you the added bonus of being able to try out your dance moves before unleashing them on the public...
24. I'm the opposite... I find it much more comfortable playing standing up
25. Also; I once briefly owned a cort curbow fretless... don't buy one of those
