1. I'm going to have to say Wal too... but that's probably no surprise. I think the fretless Wal tone is even more distinctive than the fretted one. I have not however tried one of Alan's fretless basses with the multicoil pickups... I would expect these to be of a similar standard and also half the price / build time.
 2.
Really? Why not? Surely it's less work.
Something to do with the higher quality of finish required... I asked about it a while back as I was looking to have a jazz built.
 3. I get the neck straight then raise the saddles until it doesn't buzz... job done. there is probably a bit more to it than that but it works for me
 4. I could play 95% of all the songs in my bands on a fiver and 90% on a four. I like having the extended range if I need it though and having the extra string doesn't bother me. I like having one bass that covers all my needs... Well apart from fretless but you get the point. I'd say play as many basses as you can and see which feels right. Some people have issues with muting on Sixers so a good idea to give one a good going over before commitng.
 5. Hope it all went well today guys Kudos to all those who have given their time to make it happen.
 6. I'm very glad I bought the ones I did... They were all great basses, particularly the jb75s. It's good to play lots of different basses, it all helps you to work out what you like and don't like. For the price of a deko its well worth it for the experience. ... I've mostly learned how good HB gear is. Amazingly so IMO.
 7.
Are any deko owners having buyer remorse? My acoustic fretless 4 is nice and the only work that needs doing is the high action / nut slot deepening..... Fighting with myself whether I can justify keeping it (too many basses, and others are objectively better instruments)!!! Anyone else have this "problem"?
Not really remorse but I did realise that I didn't need any of the ones I had bought...
 8. No musician jokes but I can think of several joke musicians...
 9.
The afore-mentioned Maruszczyk?
Yes they are very tempting, but I beleive the OPs bass will be even cheaper still.
 10.
Limelight
except they can't do regular finishes... only relics
 11.
Barry Moorhouse of the www.basscentre.com (Well actually not he, but Chris Ward his in-house tech!) Its based on their successful Bass Collection range but with a few refinements. My first bass was a J-style from them, and it is still a sweet bass to play. MIM quality and playability for Squire money. Barry is using me as a 'test case' to go to offering a 'bespoke service' as part of The Bass Collection product range.
Sounds like a good deal to me... There has to be a market for custom coloured P and J designs and a reasonable price.
 12. I got a lovely email from Paul at Wal yesterday evening regarding the review in this months BGM. Despite a couple of inaccuracies in the review the overall vibe was positive and If Paul's happy so am I... he did make it afterall, I just ordered it!
 13. So who is actually building this bass for you?
 14.
Surely you jest? All the King's horses and all the King's men wouldn't be enough to prevent Silvie from getting it down on tape ...
I didn't want to presume... I did suspect she may have it covered though
 15. Gassing for a nice P bass at the moment... No idea why I don't need one, I just want one
 16. Rehearsing on Saturday unfortunately... gutted to be missing Trevor's Wal talk. Any chance someone could video it?
 17. Drummer in my new band is the best I have played with and he's introduced me to a whole new world of rhythms. I don't know them all by name but he'll say "lets try this one in a shuffle feel" or "this one in a latin groove" etc. It's a new world for me and I'm loving wrapping my basslines around the various different feels he is creating.
 18. I guess it's more of an problem for some than others... I don't have any issues at all with my basses and they both weigh nearly 5kg. But then again I'm playing originals and our gigs are 45 min tops, so I might find it more of a problem playing covers for hours down the dog and duck. I do regular three hour rehearsals though and they arent an issue either.
 19.
The only recommendations worth taking are from someone who has made a successful claim on their insurance in the last year. The last time I looked at serious musical instrument insurance, by the time I had gone through all the exclusion clauses it looked as though the only time it was actually covered was whilst I was playing it on stage. Even our rehearsal room which was on the 3rd floor in a facility that wasn't shared with other users and had 4 secure lockable doors between the actual room where the gear was and the street was excluded unless we fitted bars on the window!
This... Hence I've never bothered with specific insurance. If I hear of anyone who has successfully claimed for an instrument nicked from a back stage room whilst they were at the bar or something I'd sign up with their insurance company today. Mine are covered on the house insurance with special dispensation if I take them abroad and for business use (on the rare occasion I am paid for gigs). I had to list my basses specifically but the amps etc are covered under the usual policy.
 20.
Money?
You cynic ... I'm sure it's all about the art...
 21.
darn the FSR 74 jazz has gone, overnight... think I even dreamed about it
Are you sure that was a dream? ... you didn't sleep order it? Best check the credit card statement
 22.
If (like me) you are a confirmed gear snob and really can't entertain the idea of appearing in public with a big Behringer amp, you could always buy a genuine OEM Ampeg cast badge from the USA and fit it to your BVT... then at least some of your amp would be genuine Ampeg! I think it looks quite smart, IF you can stand the mental trauma of being a total fraud... I don't think I could cope with the deception, myself. Also, full-on Ampeg GAS has become way too much for me - I'm moving this amp on and have a genuine Ampeg SVT350H lined up. Round and round the gear carousel goes, where it will stop nobody knows!! Naturally I will be posting 'NAD - Ampeg SVT350H' in due course.
I suspect your Ampeg now contains the same amount of US made components as a regular one....
 23.
21.5kg (47.5lb). The manual is here. Heavy compared with a lightweight Class D amp, but liftable. Bear in mind a big valve amp is nearer 35kg (77lb).
That's about the weight all bass amps were until a few years ago... managable then
 24. Out of interest how heavy actually is it?
 25.
...it's your bass get what you like :-)
This comment could close out about half the threads we have running at the moment on BC...
