1.
Frightening it could all happen again with Kanye West...
Yes indeed... sadly now One Direction have split this generation needs a new pop music hero.
 2.
Man, this is such bad news... I'm in real 6s and 7s about whether or not to get the vintage jazz; it look awesome, and I want to try to defret it having played and loved a Squier fretless recently... Anyone know anything about fretless maple boards?! Will I have to epoxy it?
Whats not to like... they cost £30 and look like this
 3.
Hi Camden Rob I used to have a Wal, back in the day sold it for peanuts. Facepalm.
I think a lot of people did that... Someone on here (I forget who) had an original JG with the leather scratchplate and sold it... It's difficult to pridict what will happen. I've sold a few fenders for peanuts that I may well be regretting in twenty years time
I've been recommended acg by a lot of people!
I've not owned an ACG, but I did have the pleasure of trying a couple at the London Bass show a couple of years back. I also follow the build thread on here with interest. Alan puts out some cracking looking instruments with an impressive spec (lots of in house made parts as opposed to other manufacturers pickups, pre amps etc.) I reckon a passive fretless with one of his multicoil pickups near the bridge would be quite something....
 4. The intention was to give mine away. I ordered one up to give to a freind of Mrs C's... he now has a choice of the four I have left hopefully that choice will be made in the next week or so. I did contact my local music charity (Camden Music Trust) a couple of times by email asking if they needed any bass guitars as they provide private lessons and the chance to jam in bands for kids at local schools over the weekend. I also offered my time to help out with either teaching or just organising stuff, but I guess they had enough bass guitars and didn't want my help as I never got a reply! I may pop them up in the recycling section They are perfectly playable basses and some (the jazzes in particular) look exceptional.
 5. Could you stretch to a Wal? Can't beat the fretless tone IMO... Open, rich and clear whilst still retaining a thunderous low end. Some great examples in the used market. Fretless models tend to be a touch cheaper and unless your after a specific wood top it will be identical to one you would order. If you are anywhere near London you are welcome to pop round and try mine
 6.
Happy New Deko Bass Day JonSmith (and everyone else). I wonder if we in this forum have collectively bought more than a hundred dekos.
I've bought five... And I can't say the pb20 will be the last...
 7.
They're heavy, cumbersome beasts in my experience. Big old neck on the one I had. Didn't balance well with the short upper horn (Mark 1 shape). They need to be wrestled with which isn't what most people want in a bass - I certainly didn't. Sound bloody good but not worth the money they currently fetch while we're on the subject (IMHO, YMMV and all that)...
The Mk3 shape is as light and ergonomic as any other modern bass. It has a smaller body, longer top horn and hipshot ultralights, it also doesn't have the paddle headstock. I played a four string version at a recent visit to Wal HQ and it was one of the lightest basses I've played. The Mk1 (whilst iconic) is a shape and design born of the late 70s where weight didn't seem to be a consideration... My six string MK3 is 11.2lb... My four string MK1 weighs in at slightly under 11lb... so there is a marked difference between the shapes.
 8. I wouldn't worry about it get out there and get playing in a band, its great fun and for me what it's all about I've never had any complaints about my playing and my isolated bass tracks are full of squeaks and strings slapping the fretboard etc... It's inaudible in the mix and if you tired to cut it all out the track would probably sound dead and lifeless. Also, you learn proper muting techniques etc as you go. Go for it, you're probably just as good as the rest of us
 9. Beautiful basses those... The link just seems to be an image? Can't play the video... Might just be me though.
 10. I had a ten year break and thought it would take me ages to get back into it... Asides from sore fingers for a few days it was like I'd never stopped. I couldn't remember any material obviously, but that didn't really matter as I wasn't in any of those bands any more anyway. I'm uselss at remembering stuff anyway. I can remember the set for both my current bands but I've already forgotten the majority of the material from a band I played in last year.
 11.
I got a €10 voucher for a review a few months back. It was for £300 item. There must be a limit to what they give vouchers for, I've ordered five other item to be sent with the Jazz but they only total £30 together. I'm sure I won't be able to review them in return for a €10 voucher for each one.
I reviewed a set of Warwick pickup screws once and got a voucher...
 12.
Quite so. And Los Beatles will probably have accounted for more of these epiphanies than all the other bands or artists put together. Not for much longer though. The Grim Reaper crooks his spectral, bony finger for the older generation and today's lazy, self-entitled, narcissistic floppy-haired youngsters are mostly too busy getting tattooed and drinking alcopops and indignantly protesting about the desperate unfairness of modern life to identify music as anything but a cheap, disposable personal soundtrack. In this misapprehension the young are greatly to be pitied; verily, it is a curse which will render the balance of their lives a barren, soul-less wasteland wherein they will wander in direction-less melancholy. But when they lay the sod over the last of the Beatles generation we shall be whistling 'She Loves You' through our decomposing lips; the last laugh shall be ours.
Mrs C has no interest in bass guitars or basschat, but has just read this over my shoulder and says it is both brilliant and beautiful.
 13.
Just bought this for £46 delivered. https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_b_450_black_progressiv_deko.htm hopefully it's ok, doesn't say what's wrong with it......
I had one of those... Chunky p neck and decent variety of sounds. Like all the HB basses,it would be decent value at full price, so its a steal as a Deco
 14. If your after the ampeg sound I wouldn't go for GK gear, its very modern and HiFi. Perhaps look at orange and barefaced? Or maybe a genz streamliner.
 15. Looks like another 75 jazz is up... Mine was excellent Also, in other news... My pb20 was waiting for me on the door step when I got home from work whoever signed for it must have got bored of it cluttering up their house... It's flawless and sounds great
 16.
It really depends on the gig. They schedule is quite big. Covers travel over a certain time and distance and waiting time and rehearsal and performance rates.
Oh I see... that makes more sense than a blanket rate. I assume they have contacted landlords etc to see whats viable, not much point dictating a rate that no-one can afford.
 17. What is the MU rate incidentally?
 18. I am ridiculously right handed... Can play a note on bass left handed, can't throw or catch with my left hand... can't even hold a pen let alone write anything legible.
 19.
Plus VAT, plus whatever handling charge the courier adds to get it through customs
blimey... not really worth it then.
 20.
+ import taxes?
Do you have to pay import taxes on second hand stuff you buy from ebay? I didn't know that...
 21. A nice MK1 from the US but with international shipping. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-Wal-Mk-1-Fretless-Bass-Guitar-Great-Condition-/191673776909?hash=item2ca0a5bb0d Just under £3k with shipping.
 22. Having played a friends P bass last night, I was reminded just how good they are... There is something about the purity of tone you get from the single P pickup, it is clean and powerful. Basses with more than one pickup can sometimes sound slightly out of phase... The single P pickup has such a strong timbre. I am a Wal man and that is the tone for me but I do love a good P
 23.
I'm a beginner and not ready for playing in public yet. And I can imagine that if I did, the first few gigs would have to be quite cheap. But I'm slightly surprised nobody's mentioned the Musician's Union. Is nobody a member here? Are their rates so high that members are priced out of all but the very best gigs?
Whilst the MU offeres some great stuff, free insurance etc... it's not a real union. It's not going to be withdrawing its bands labour unless it's terms are met, leaving stages empty and venues with a rabble of angry middle aged blokes demanding yet another rendition of alright now...
 24.
The LH jazz that was up earlier in the week on Thomann: http://www.ebay.co.u...%3D262013670968 The progressive... same seller http://www.ebay.co.u...%3D262013707642 The acoustic bass...same seller http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3d013c488e "There is a mark on the back of the body which I have tried to show in the last photo." 25. Personally I think mozart would been nothing without The Beatles...
