1.
Functionally useless as an amp stand. But could work as a guitar stand... H'mmm.... There might be some money in this.
What in marketing a series of guitar stands aesthetically based on various famous posteriors? ... I'd buy a kylie one.
 2.
If you approach it from a religious celebration perspective then you are being a bit precious given that the Lord is generally considered to take a more the merrier stance.
yes but everyone know the lord prefers electric bass... especially slap and tapping.
 3.
There's no link to the actual study there, but I presume it was based on identifying an "X fan" as someone who predominantly downloaded stuff labelled as "X", and then seeing what else they downloaded.
ah fair enough... so I guess it's a study of peoples who's prefered genre is one from that list.
 4. What happens if you like more than one genre of music? ... not that anyone would obviously that would be ridiculous.
 5.
Im looking for a band at the moment, maybe i should try just turning up at gigs and playing with random bands…
.. Good idea, take your bass along, get up on stage, unplug the incumbent bass player and play along.... if it goes badly just say its cause his rig is rubbish.
 6.
sounds like a plan ... want an invite ?
I can't I'm playing a free gig that night....
 7.
Ha ha .... i did rephrase that a few times when I was writing it ... maybe i wanted some peace and quiet ;-) or to play full volume in the house for a change.
Well either that or I had visions of you partying the night away with all the wives and girlfirends whilst your mates all stayed at home nursing half a pint...
 8.
As such I've found that relying on pubs / bars to deal with new years has been a let down for the last few years . So I've been organizing a big group of my mates inc wives and girlfriends to occupy a table at a out of town gastro-pub get a meal in then get very drunk and play cards against humanity .
I didn't see the inc on the first read through...
 9. I have recently gone down to a single 210 from a 2x112 set up. It is not as loud and obviously doesn't not have quite the bottom end. But... it is plenty loud enough to be heard over an enthusiastic drummer, still sounds like a bass guitar and is actually portable enough for me to transport it about. I haven't played a gig with it but half volume on the amp at rehearsal is more than enough. I might be a little concerned about a 210 being enough for a gig if you're relying on it entirely to provide all your volume... All of my gigs have full PA support so I generally just DI. My rig is just for rehearsals really and when I need it as a monitor.
 10.
Try being a trombone player in a recording orchestra, or a comprehensive school teacher at a failing school. That'll test your patience of whether being a musician is fun.
I very much doubt there is a queue of people wanting to teach music in a failing comprehensive school for free in their spare time...
 11.
It's possible to enjoy your work. In fact you spend a third of your life doing it, if you don't enjoy it you're almost certainly in the wrong job.
I think a very small percentage of people enjoy their jobs. More likely is that most people hate their jobs but put up with them because they get paid enough to enjoy their hobbies outside of work... like playing live music.
 12.
My brother took a crap in my old mans acoustic, which stuck to the inside and over months desicated. My old man kept complaining about a sh*tty smell in the front room. Eventually some time later my old man dropped his plectrum into the guitar and did the old turn it upside down and shake it whilst looking through the whole. You guessed it the dried poo dislodged and fell out of the guitar hitting my old man in the forehead. We wet ourselves laughing.
Crapping in an acoustic must be quite an exercise in accuracy...
 13.
So - has anybody yet received a duff instrument from these "decoration only" items? Only there's a banjo on there at the moment that I might be interested in (along with an acoustic bass).
The worst I've had just needed a set up... It was unplayable out of the box, but a truss rod / bridge tweak and it was fine All the others I've had arrived not only well set up but actually in tune.
 14.
Wonder if the Greek lady thinks you are becoming a PITA?
She definitely will! I always feel guilty asking people if they have signed for my stuff. Especially her as she isn't overly mobile and it must be a real effort to get up from whatever she is doing and clamber down the stairs and sign for a parcel that isn't even for her.... then she has to clamber down again to answer the door when I call after work.
 15.
I must say I would go ape sh*t!. Glad you got the Wal!. Touch wood I've never yet had any trouble with any couriers, although once a new mobile was sent to the opposite end of the country but still got it delivered the next day after it was due. Still I don't trust sending or receiving until it's in my or the buyers hands. Have you checked other houses in the street?. Or there yards/gardens etc
There isn't really alot I can do... Every time I get a package delivered I go on the track and trace thing and add a comment to the page which is supposed to go to the drivers. It always says the same thing; "PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DELIVER AS I WILL NOT BE AT HOME TO SIGN FOR THE PACKAGE - PLEASE LEAVE AT DEPOT AND I WILL PICK UP" Without fail, everytime this is ignored and my packages are delivered to a random neighbour I've never met... Well apart from the aforementioned elderly greek lady. I've now met her twice when she has signed for packages, even though she has no idea who I am.
 16.
I think you have just proved my argument.
erm... not really... The point is that to earn decent money for something you first need to be in a position where you have the skills to do something the person paying you needs. Secondly that skill needs to be something that other people who will do it for less can't do... In the case of music, there are loads of people who can and will do it for nothing. Unless your band is doing something that others can't and that's what people want... In which case you can pretty much dictate your own level of payment. Whilst music is obviously skilled, there are more people that can do it than paying venues require and this drives the level of remuneration.
 17.
People would do your job for less. That's why there is a minimum wage in the UK. By playing music for free, you are effectively the same as someone who comes to your workplace and offers to do your job for less and sleep 10 to a room.
There are many many 10 to a room guys on the sites in London but they are all doing manual jobs, jobs where the required skill set is being physically able to carry stuff around and nothing more, they are cheaper than a brittish worker with the same skills who will not live in the same conditions. I have a skilled job which has taken years to learn. I can't just be replaced by a random bloke in the street... If it was possible to replace me for less they would. Instantly.
 18.
So if you found someone doing your day job for 10% of what your paid, because they enjoy it, how would you feel ?
I would say good luck to them... I work in construction and they pay me the minimum they possibly can to get someone with the skills they need to complete the contract. I get a penny an hour more than someone who can't do my job. No-one would do my job for less because it is sh*t ... music is enjoyable and many many people are happy to do it for free
 19.
Happened to me once, the sh*t next door would not answer the door, I knew they were in. Called the delivery company (don't remeber who it was), they sent a driver out within a couple of hours and he retrieved it. If this does not work for you, kill them.
Im not sure they really understood as they didn't speak a word of english... I waved the card thingy and pointed at it and kind of mimed a box shape but was met with a blank look... It was only a matter of time until this happened, it's always a bit of a lottery as the couriers just deliver my basses to random people down the street I've never met. At least it was a deco and not the time they delivered my fretless Wal to an elderly greek lady, who had opened up the box to see what it was before realising it clearly wasn't intended for her...
 20. Unfortunately my PB-20 was delivered to a neighbour who denies all knowledge of it...
 21. I tried to buy it on the day it was posted up and I was third in line... it sold before I could get there
 22.
Some pics including one of the backplate, sorry about the quality I don't own a camera other than the one on my phone!
That rough bit round the edges is possibly just the plastic film they put on it? Peel that off and it'll look shiny and new I had a four string fretted progressive and apart from the stock strings I was very impressed. Yours looks equally as good
 23. If you need to impress a non musician stranger I'd take a guitar instead...
 24.
my progressive is still in Koln
My PB-20 was stuck there for ages.. seems to have made it across last night.
