1. The best way would be to put a jazz bass up on the marketplace... sell it and buy a stingray.
2.
In the nicest possible way, Rob, I disagree with you about capitalism. The bottom line is Thomann provide employment to a good number of honest folk in Germany. Those folk have rent to pay and food to put on the table for their families. Mr Joshua Harris is contemplating making it harder for the man who pays those folk to give them those wages. Capitalism is not all bad. Most of it is about feeding folk like us. OK, it's possible that Josh Harris MIGHT keep the bass. But he owes it to all concerned to be pretty certain that he truly wants that bass and with a bass of that value he should take ALL available steps to make sure the bass WON'T be going back lightly.
Oh I agree with you entirely... I was prempting a barrage of "thomann are rich so it doesn't matter if people treat them badly" comments.
3. Does anyone have a square peg to fit in this round hole? ... A more serious answer, the Wal socket is much to far recessed for right angled jacks, straights only
4.
I'm sure Thomann would be totally thrilled to buy in a Fodera type value bass especially for you, to get it back after 14 days with the explanation of "it wasn't really me after all". IMO I think the prospect if you doing this to them stinks. But maybe I'm just old fashioned.
I'm sorry but I have to agree with this... I know thomann make lots of money, money is evil, down with capitalism yada yada, but this just sounds wrong to me. It would never be "as new" when you returned it. If I'd spent £5k on a fodera and got one someone else had been playing for a month I'd send it back.
5. Sold Aidan a tuner. No problems whatsoever, another hassle free BC deal Deal with confidence.
6. I bought some 45 - 105s (I think) a year or so back (the ones with the green silks) and they were seriously high tension... like really really high tension they hardly moved when you plucked then, also needed to adjust the trussrod as they were pulling the neck into a forward bow. I actually have a new set kicking around somewhere, but they really didn't work for me, if you fancy having a go you're welcome to them, PM me your address and I'll stick them in the post... they are very tight though!
7.
I'm not sure, but by the looks of it, it's a fretless? All Original?
Definitely fretless, It looks like a defret to me as the markers are in the middle of where the frets would be... I may be wrong though Did the Pro basses have a bit of masking tape inside the control cover like the customs? that should state the original configuration.
8. I had a corvette fiver once that was seriously tight... sounded great (as have all Warwicks I've tried) but was way too tight for my agricultural technique
9.
Maybe the custom shop version.
That might be the one yes... I just remember that picture from a thread a year or so back and at some point the price coming out and it being in the multiple thousands I also remember quite liking the look of it then... as I do now
10.
£691 at GAK. Is that staggering?
I must be thinking of a different one
11. This has popped up somewhere before... I seem to remember it was staggeringly expensive? Looks good though.
12. Tentative bump... Not convinced I really want to sell this... I want something else so kinda feel like I should sell it
13.
"I want one of these..." Me too! Here's another interesting variation of a sliding pickup bass - http://www.spaltinst...ruments/vviper/
It's definitely an interesting concept... IMO pickup placement makes a bigger difference to the sound of a bass than anything else.
14. How many Harpists are there out there? They probably think you DBers have it easy with a nice transportable instrument...
15. It might just be my screen settings but that's some seriously tiny text there... makes it unreadable
16. I think the issue with double bass is that it is just such a ludicrously impractical instrument... I love double bass, I wish I could play it and it's without doubt the coolest instrument to play, but it's just so massive... you can't pack a child off to his music lessons with a DB strapped to his back, then there is the feedback issues when trying to amplify it and the prohibitive initial cost to get a playable instrument, you can see why the electric bass has become so popular...
17. Thinking about it, I reckon Rock probably is more popular with the young and trendy now than it was when I was young (never been remotly trendy) When I was at school in the mid 90s no-one listened to rock whatsoever. Me and two mates listened to Death Metal and everyone else wore a brightly coloured puffy coat and listened to Pete Tong's Ibiza Anthems. I went to Lattitude a couple of weeks back and there were and handful of young people who appeared to be enjoying what was on offer. Although I think it may just have been so they could take a video on their phones for facebook so their mates back home could know they'd seen a famous person....
18. Just sold my beloved Purple Chili cabs to Alan... He arrived bang on time to pick them up, no problems, no hassle. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
19. Not so much of an option with Fodera but used German Warwicks go for a fraction of the new cost on the used market. I would buy one of the model your interested in from the BC marketplace (don't worry too much about colour or it being pristine) then move it on / trade it for a different one after a month or so. It's really hard to get the feel for how a bass is going to work for you long term after a 5 minute noodle in a bass shop... Give yourself the best chance of working out exactly what it is you want before plonking down that £4k...
20.
I'm thinking something with a P-J pickup configuration.
Yes I'd go down this route too... Active / passive option would be handy as well. ... around a grand? I'd go Sandberg.
21.
Having used the Joyo on several different basses, it has come to my attention that placement is very important
I've been clipping my new tc one to one of the preamp knobs... Works great and is much easier to see there than on the headstock.
22. You'd need an svt and 8x10...
23.
That little lot on a bus?? Jesus God. Hats off to you Rob!
Well I have a trolly for the cab and amp, then i have the bass on my back currently only one bass, but I've been investigating double gigbags so I could take both.
24. I would wait until you find something you think is worth the money I wouldn't be setting out with the express purpose of buying a high end bass then trying to decide what I wanted... It should really be driven the other way, in that you discover a bass that ticks all the boxes for you and if it happens to be expensive then that's the time to make the investment. Can't harm saving up the money for when the time does come that you find what your looking for though
