1. One annoying habit Jools has is mis-pronouncing band's names.June Tabor is on this week with Oysterband, which he keeps pronouncing "Oyster banned" like some weird newspaper headline. It's one word, Jools, with the emphasis on the 'OYST'.Prat!
2.
Sounds like this guy:
Well done that Man!! Them's the guys I'm lookin' for. Some other nice stuff on Y/tube as well.Sorry I forgot to mention the rather helpful clue that he was a leftie.Thanx Tommo.
3. There was a series of videos on Youtube a couple of years ago,or maybe even longer ago than that of 2 brothers,a bass player and a drummer in a bedroom doing some great drum and bass stuff,no vocals.I can remember that the bass player was always seated, and facing AWAY from the drummer.Sorry cant be more specific.Me and a couple of mates are doing a little thing on F/book unearthing this kind of stuff.Any of you guys throw any light on this for me? Thanx.
4. Quick and easy pick transaction with Gareth. No probs.
5. If I can help,I believe the '3000A' has the aluminium type speaker cone, while the '3000' has the normal black paper one.

7.
Then theres Taggart. His brother was the singer in The Sweet yer know!!
That guy is Alex Norton who plays Matt Burke, but read this, courtsey of Wikipedia ' Numerous sources have incorrectly asserted that Brian Connolly was a half brother of the late actor Mark McManus (who found fame in the title role of detective series "Taggart") but they were not related. Mark "Taggart" McManus was actually the nephew of Brian's foster father.' I had thought the same as you,but something was in the back of my mind that said otherwise.
8. NO videos, but 3 that spring to mind are Coronation St (!),Deal or No Deal, and my favourite, QI......
9. From '72 to '77 I had a Marshall (respect) 50 watt top and 4x12 sloped cabinet.I dragged that little thing round Germany, and other European hovels and only once did I need to replace 1 EL34.Thing was,it was RED,and when I tried to find a straight front 4x12 to make a stack, it was well nigh impossible. The slanted cab had the word 'Bass' on the front although what made it different from a regular 4x12 I've yet to find out.A Marshall amp and a Fender Precision. What a combination!?!
10. Just watched a very interesting prog on Jack Bruce, last night on BBC2 Scotland.Mostly about his time with Cream, but also a bit about his pre-Cream days.An interesting player to watch I must say.I never paid an awful lot of attention to him in the past, but having seen this,I now see him in a different light.A competent pianist and vocalist,he did a few numbers on piano, backed by a collection of folk musicians. The last number was 'Sunshine of Your Love' with Jack on bass, and backed by fiddle, accordian, bodhran and acoustic guitar.Class! While he was being interviewed,he had a nice WAL bass with a Warwick neck beside him, although he used a fretless Warwick while performing. Need to dig out 'Songs for a tailor' now,and have a listen.
11. My first choice would have been the VMJ5.Superb value for money if you're ready to take on a 5er as a backup. But hey,it's good to be versatile
12. Been listening to it again with cans this time and now I'm more, but not completely convinced that it's synth based(See what i did there?Synth bass )..Still nice though. If it is,I still cant work out why LaPread played a fretted bass in the video.Could it have been just to say "Hey,I'm the bass player here, but nobody will notice that the bass sound on the track and this bass don't match"
13. Just been listening to the Commodores doing 'Nightshift'.Sounds mighty like some classic fretless playing, but on the video, the bassist is using a Steinberger type fretted bass.Anybody know (a) is it an actual bass (and not keyboard) and (b)is the Commodores bassist Ronald LaPraed playing the bassline? And (c)if not him, then who? Edited because all the letters in brackets came out as Smilies
14. Looks like a little Fender Mustang or Musicmaster.I never can tell which is which. Late edit...Definitely a Mustang.
15. All sorted now.Turns out that it was the mains supply in the room where I was testing the amp.I don't get the buzzing anywhere else in the house, just this one room. It's happened before with a cheap bass that I have, which I just put down to shoddy electrics in the bass. The Wasburn has turned out to be a very playable little bass after all.The neck is not too wide, for a 6er anyway, but is amazingly slim and comfortable. It has the ARTEC preamp to help it along, and the cheap Wilkinson pup is actually not that bad.So I'm happy enough for the present.Thanx for all input.
16. As 51m0n says (like that?See what I did there?) Meths is much better than boiling.I boiled my strings for years and it worked. But meths cleaning lasts an awful lot longer in my opinion.Makes the meths taste a bit funny afterwards tho'
17. On reflection,I wonder how I would have fared if I had clicked 'Pay Now' without thinking.Would it have emptied my bank account? Not that I have £17 million, you understand, but My Paypal is directly linked to my bank account.Jeez!
18. LOL.I just registered for this site.I ordered the magazine £1.69 as stated.I opted to pay via Paypal. When I reached checkout,I nearly had a minor accident in my pants! Why?? " Amount due - £16,900,000.00" It may be a good mag,but there's no way it's worth nearly 17 million.I MAY try again!
19. Was that the great Rico Rodriguez on trombone? I think I caught a glimpse of a wooly hat at one point.
20. Right guys heads up.Things are tight money wise,so I decided on a Wilkinson humbucker from a company in China, who were on Ebay.It arrived yesterday, packed like Fort Knox, and I installed it today.Wiring had me a bit perturbed tho'.Black, yellow and red and white, which were soldered together.I naturally presumed that the black was ground, and the yellow would then be hot,but that put both pickups out of phase. So reversed the connections and that worked OK,except that I now have a slight buzz when I'm not touching the strings, but only on the new pickup.I presume that it will have to be earthed now,but I dont see an earth wire. There is an ARTEC SE3A pre-amp installed in the bass,by the way. That may or may not be important. How do I ground this new pickup?
21.
Ooh look what I just found
I think there's something rather...er.'labial' about the tail end of this bass.Or maybe it's just my weird mind.
22. Just watched an interesting prog on BBC4 with Rick Stein (yeah, the cook) on the origins of the Delta blues.Really good and not a lot of cooking being done.Seems his hero is Howlin' Wolf, and he's a lover of the blues. It showed a pic of him in his school days and he was holding a cheap looking bass.Didn't have time to check it out but it had 4 in-line plastic tuners.Catch it if you can on iPlayer.
