4. Is it still available?
I'm selling my Ashdown ABM Combo 500, C115, 1x15" speaker, 575w, immaculate condition, made in England in 1998. The speaker is the original Celestion and not the newer Blue Line. £325.
5. I'd take the cab (if it is still available) provided I can get a MAG 300!
I'm planning to upgrade to some Mark Bass kit, so am selling my Ashdown MAG C300-115 Combo and a MAG 2x10 cab. COMBO NOW SOLD. CAB STILL AVAILABLE. The Combo is the 307 watt 1x15 model. Its in very good condition, save that the knob on the input level control is damaged. This is cosmetic only, and the control itself works fine. It also has some screw holes on the bottom where some castors were fitted at one point. The cab is the standard MAG 2x10. I bought this used a year or so ago, but have only used it on a couple of ocassions at larger venues as an extension for the Combo. Full specs on the Ashdown site here: <a href="http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/section.asp?section=mag" target="_blank">http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/section.asp?section=mag</a> I'm looking for £160 for Combo and £110 for the cab, or £250 for the pair. I would rather not post due to their size and weight, but I'm happy to meet half way within a reasonable disctance of Nottingham.
9. Exactly whereabouts are you? Can you run an additional cab off this thing? 12" seems just that wee bit small (ooer!!).
Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade soon, so I'm looking to sell my current amp. It's an Ashdown EB12 180 Watts that I've had for about 8 months now, it has seen no more than 10 gigs in its life and works perfectly. anyone looking for an amp for a small gig or practice room then this is what you want! I'll post pics of the one I have soon, can't take them now as it is at the practice room. for now, heres a link to the Ashdown website http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?ID=102 I'm looking to sell for about £120 or nearest offer so let me know. P.S. I'm a new member so I can understand that I am yet to gain peoples trust as a seller, any of you unsure of me I'm sure Ste_m3 can vouch for me.
10. I'd be interested, and could come down and pick it up (the combo). £180 looks to be about £30 more than other folk are selling this model for...
hi there, here i have as in the title. This is a very compact (and for that reaason fairly heavy compared to size) bass amp suiting most small venues for gigging, and great for practices. Has loads of great features just have a look on the websites. Would like to swap for a head (and cabs if cheap enough) something that's decent for a grungy distorted sound. I also have a H + H 1 X 18 cab that's pretty beefy and could be included in any sale/swap. Looking for no more than 180quid. Let me know! ben
11. Hi, need to know what you want to do about this rig'r. It's now Saturday morning!

 13. I live in Beverley and could pop down to see you tomorrow (Saturday 21st June) with £100 cash. Can you attach an additional cab to this thing for playing in slightly larger venues?
Bump-o, Should be getting my new rig saturday so any offers will be considered.
14. How much do you want for it?
Evening all Following a switch to Ampeg ("this is our new direction - hope you like it") I'm now selling my Ashdown ABM500 bass magnifier head. UK made, 500 Watts RMS, 1000 Watts peak. I've had it for about four years - very reliable, trustworthy, quality equipment. Pictures below. Anyone interested? Any trial welcome - I live between Redditch and south west Birmingham. I also have a Tascam CD-BT1 in fabulous condition (it's a bass tutor that uses CDs - seldom used, as my playing ability will testify!) Any questions, please just ask
15. Thanks for that. I've downloaded the trial version, but can't make a lot of sense of it at the moment. Do I take it I should be able to import the TAB for just about any track ever recorded? I put in Go Buddy Go by the Stranglers (just as an experiment) and back came Buddy Holly and nowt else! When I pressed what I thought was the button to download it I found myself back on the original page trying to decipher 'high-speed blues' played (and I'm not exaggerating here) at about 350 bpm! Looking like hard work at the moment. By theway, how much does this stuff cost for UK use?
I was recently introduced ( via this site ) to Guitar Pro that uses midi files to play back the songs on the software. All the instruments can be "soloed" so you can isolate the bassline and it gets my 100% recommendation ( it also shows the tab as well so you can watch as you listen/play along )
16. The band I've just hooked up with don't really play the kind of stuff I'm into. As a lazy (ish) non-music reading sloth, what is my best source of bass TABs for stuff like, say, Heartbeat by Scouting for Girls? Guess I[i] could work this lot out for myself, but I have a lousy 'ear' and tend to interpret stuff an octave lower than it is actually played.
 17. Thanks for that folks. All I'd like to know now is how my post ended up HERE (my previous moan refers)! Is there someone out there who is able to move other people's posts (Oooer!)
Yes, rest strokes and 'wandering thumb' for me! It helps towards muting and keeping all the notes you play nice and clear! I used to think and play like you actually, rest strokes being weird, but once you have them down, you will find that you play a lot more evenly, stronger & faster than the way you're going now, because your fingers have a point of reference for each attack. And with regards to wandering thumb, if you look at the shape of your hand as you play each string while your thumb is anchored to the pickup, it changes, its almost like 4 different techniques. Whereas if you change the position of where you rest your thumb based on what string you're playing, you keep the hand shape similar to when you're playing the low E. So although it seems like more work, you're actually making life easier in the long run! Si
18. Ok, second attempt! Chatting to a guy last week who suggested that, in order to avoid string-ring, you should aim to play through your note then bring your finger to rest on the string above, effectively muting it. As this move would have to be executed with every note I was just wondering how many folk out there actually do this. Surely the whole plot would become pretty much untenable were you to try applying it to rapid (Rocco Prestia style) 16th-note stuff? Hope this one doesn't get lost!
 19. Wrote a lengthy post last night only to find it has now vanished. Anyone else had this happen? Bloody annoying, frankly!
 20. Someone recently suggested to me that the best way to mute strings/reduce unwanted ringing was to actually play 'through' the string and let your finger come to rest on the next one. In practice this would mean playing a note on, say, the D-string and muting the A-string. Funilly enough, in all the books I have (and I must have upwards of 20) I have never seen this suggested before. I don't doubt the guy is trying to be helpful, but I am finding this a pretty hellish task after having gotten into the habit of just playing the one string and 'ignoring' the others. I guess starting out playing punk hardly helped! Listening to (and trying to play) something like Dune Tune, you can see there is a valid enough reason for keeping things tidy. Stuart Clayton suggests a 'wandering' (anchoring/muting thumb) which also feels odd when you're used to perching on the bridge pick-up and staying there. Whatever technique is used, you would surely tie yourself in knots pretty quickly if you tried it with 16th notes wouldn't you?
 21. Cor lummee! So, it would appear that there are only modes for the 12 Minor and Major keys. And that 'all the other stuff' (Blues, Jazz, and all the assorted 'other' minors) are scales that are 'tweaked' individually? Elsewhere on this forum somebody commented that the other scales (such as the whole-tone, for example) DO also have their respective modes. Sound like we're looking at more scales than a prize-winning pike!!! By the way, please forgive my layman's-speak, I'm just trying to get an overview of just how complicated this is likely to become before I leap on in.
Nearly. The natural minor (A minor in the key of C) is the one in "normal" useage, the harmonic is an altered minor (raised 7th) in commercial music and represents the major third (would usually be minor third) of the dominant chord in a minor II V I progression. I understand that classical harmony may differ from this, I am talking about this in a modal context as that is what the OP asked. There is no Harmonic minor in the modal expression of major harmony hence me referring to it as altered.
22. That actually brings me on to my next erm....'post'? Which was to ask how many 'sets' of modes there are out there. Surely there must come a point where many of these sequences just resemble tuneless dirges? Call me a (cage-rattling) philistine, but I was listening to some Charlie Mingus the other day and it sounded to me like someone who couldn't play [i]at all having a bit of larf after a bottle of cheap whisky....
Whoa, whoa, whoa there. Harmonic minor is not the minor we normally use - unless we're in Nirvana. There's a difference between Classical Melodic Minor (which you describe above) and Jazz Melodic Minor (which is the same coming down as it is going up). EDIT: Someone got there before me. The Jazz Melodic Minor and the Harmonic Minor both have their own modes and harmony too. As do the Harmonic Major, Whole Tone and Diminished Scales. But that's basically it. Unless you want to get really far out.
23. Many thanks The minor harmony rules would be much appreciated.
I think what you have stated covers Major Chord Function/Relationship you say melodic minor. So thats flat3rd all other notes natural. So; Mode Chord I Melodic Minor m(maj7) or m6 II Dorian b2 susb9 III Lydian Augment maj7 (#5) IV Lydian Dominant 13(#11) V Mixolydian b6 9(#5) VI Locrian #2 mi9(b5) VII Altered 7alt that VII might be called Super Locrian in American language. If we now go back to Major I = maj7 or maj6 II = m7 III = m7 IV = maj7 V = 7 VI = m7 VII = diminished. there is a lot to minor harmony or chord function there is no easy way but it is good for the brain and after a while it really helps your playing (improvising) and def helps you hear what others are playing more confidently. If any of this is of any use I can type up some Minor Harmony "rules" if you lioe.
24. Hi there I was chatting to a guy the other day who assured me that one way to understand musical keys was as follows: Take , say, C major and write the scale down. You then list the seven modes (in their correct sequence) and then start each mode from its respective note in the original scale. This would give (in the example of C major) the mode of E Phyrigian staring on the third degree. I understand the concept of what a mode is, the 'swapping' of the notes from back to front, etc. But, whereas I can pick out certain things like the relative minor and so on (and understand the link to the major scale) what baffles me are things like the blues scale, melodic minors and so on. Are there blues and melodic minor keys to lear as well? Or is it just simper to accept that there are no easy ways into this?
 25. I watch these guys jamming in school and they'll say something like: "This is in G". Okay, but what about the OTHER chords?
