OK, this is a possibly weird question about gigging...
bonzodog replied to Telebass's topic in General Discussion
My current band has played 75 pub gigs so far. My wife has been to two of them and one of those she left halfway through as she said it was too noisy. She has no interest in my music and I think that pleases us both -
You will get more for your money buying used but obviously be careful what you buy as I've been conned a few times buying used gear that's turned out to be faulty. At least with new you get at least a 12 month warranty and very often longer. Hartke gear is relatively cheap and has good reputation. If you arent bothered about small class D amps the Hartke LH500 is a very good head and going for £250 new. Paired with an 8ohm 210 or 212 cab will be plenty loud enough for most gigs and you can add another 8ohm cab to get the most out of the amp if needed. Very simple to use too.

I really like my vm jazz. Build quality is exceptional and I prefer it to my MIM jazz
Is it just me or does the body shape look a bit off? The geometry on the top half of the body isn't the same as the Gibson. It's smoother/less angular.
I had GAS for the tobacco finish but after now seeing the ebony version, black is the way to go for me. Really considering placing an advance order as soon I can.

I wish epiphone did the pro4 in black. I like the look of the gothic thunderbird but that is a bolt on thicker neck where I prefer the feel of the slimmer through necks but don't like either of the finishes.

Anyone with a few hours to spare should check out the KPM 1000 albums. There are dozens of them all written and produced as library music for tv and film. They are all on Spotify and there are some real cool tunes in there if you have time to browse through -
What was the first major festival you ever went to?
bonzodog replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
Monsters of rock in late 80s. Line up was Iron Maiden Kiss Dave Lee Roth Megadeth Guns and Roses Helloween Great festival apart from the endless glass bottle throwing within the audience which put a dampener on it. Saw lots of people hit on the head with bottles. Also the year two people died during guns and roses due to being crushed which no one knew about till next day. -
Thought they were great. Chrissies voice is still in great shape especially on hymn to her. Thought lead guitar was a bit loud in mix though.

Bought a pedal off Mark. Great to deal with and posted very quickly.
Probably nail varnish, lol.
Yep 😀😀😀

I did take it back to guitarguitar who then passed it to their repair guy. Had a call 3 days later to say it was ready and it's been fine ever since, having used it for 2 gigs. Only problem is when I picked it up they couldn't tell me exactly what the repair guy had done as there was no record and he wasn't in the day I collected it.

Which flatwound strings for a relative beginner...
bonzodog replied to Mickyk's topic in General Discussion
This comes up a lot Fender flats get my vote for cheap cheerful and quite good enough to test the water
+1 -
No - take it back to guitarguitar. They should be able to pop a new saddle on there and then. This is a basic and shouldn't happen - it actually renders the item not fit for purpose and is a manufacturing flaw covered by standard warranty and sale of goods rights. But you don't need to be at all narky with them - these things happen. Just explain what happened and ask them politely and with a smile to fix it.
Yes you are right. Will drop it into them this week
-
May give nail polish a go then. Might be just me but I get annoyed spending £600 on a guitar that i cant play after a few weeks because of something so simple to get right.
Oh no you'll upset the bbot fans that say they are faultless and that this never happens! Slap a Badass on it
It's virtually brand new. I'm going to take it back to guitarguitar in Birmingham to sort it

I have a MIM jazz that ive owned from new for about 2 months. It's played fine but I decided to put new strings on it yesterday (roto swing 66) and gigged it last night. All was going well until half way through first set I had a problem my E string. It suddenly went quite loose but not loose enough to be a broken string. I quickly swapped to my backup bass and completed gig. Upon inspection this morning the string is fine but what's happened is the saddle has dropped to the bottom of the screws either side that determine the height. It was set up fine with no screws showing on the saddle but now it's dropped and what is odd is both screws are now showing either side of the saddle. The whole saddle was lying flat on the bridge plate. I've re-adjusted it and played for half hour today without problem but worried it will happen again. Has this happened to anyone else?

Also look at the FAQ part of the web sites and see if they guarantee the backing tracks they are offer have definite endings. Surprising how many backing tracks have fade outs which sound awful live.
-
There are lots of web sites that sell backing tracks where you can select what instruments you want to remove and also adjust the key. You can usually hear a sample before you buy. They are normally around a pound each and you download them as an mp3. Just Google mp3 backing tracks.

This thread is making me regret selling my epi tbird pro more than ever now. Waiting for the new vintage one to come out with anticipation

I miss my LH500. Great sound and so much power. Just too heavy for my prolapsed disc!
"Big Fat Bubs from Cambridge" was a lifelong pal. Played guitar in my second band but sadly passed a couple of years back from cancer. Great guitar player.
Sad to hear. He certainly was a larger than life character.

Good value active PA cabs - recommendations
bonzodog replied to Steve Browning's topic in Accessories and Misc
We have ev zlxp 12" tops and are happy with them. We play med size pubs and just put vocals through. However we have just bought an alto TS212 as a monitor and are very impressed with sound and cheaper than the EVs. Alto offer a very long warranty period too which is something to consider! -
