It's way easier to get into the 'music business' these days - anyone can do it from a laptop without any record companies, promoters, or studios. Maybe that's partly why music streams have been devalued. That's not to say that it's easy to make a living from music. When AI takes over the world, I'm sure live performance will still be valued, even more so (at least that's what I hope!). Having said that, I'm going with my sisters to see Abba Voyage hologram show this Autumn, which is supposed to be brilliant.

Saw them in Bristol a few weeks back, the sound was great and the bass cut through the mix perfectly. Don't know if it was the same bass but it was definitely a Yamaha BB.

I've not tried the heavier version but I have a TM4 superlight, and I'm told it is brighter, and that's why it has different pickups. As said here you can easily change the tone. I have Fender 90-50 flats on mine to provide a more vintage tone.

I've played double-bass in what we referred to as an "Americana band", playing covers of Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, as well a lot of UK songs done in a similar style. I really like this style of music (whatever you'd call it) and it works so well with DB - you can really showcase the unique DB tone, especially when you don't have drums, or just have light percussion. St Bonnaventures in Bristol used to be the South West venue on this circuit, for roots type music, I saw Sarah Jaroz there once - acts used to come over from US/Canada and tour round this and similar venues in the UK. Sadly St Bonns is no more.... Good luck with your project.

Google also supports multiple accounts so you can have separate calendars for different bands and merge into a single calendar view for all of your bands. Life saver...

The NS Design Omni Bass can be played vertically and horizontally like a normal bass guitar, and has the same neck length. I don't know about the neck width though. If you prefer the longer double-bass length neck, the NS Double Bass might work?

I'd just sand it flat with fine sand paper then use a strip of wood or cork as suggested to shim it and get a tight fit.

When I started playing DB less and wasn't keeping up the hand strength I put some Presto Nylon super lights on - they felt a bit like elastic bands tension-wise at first, but I quickly got used to them and I found I could play two 45 minute sets without getting hand-ache. Controversial I find, as some players think you have to have heavier strings to be a proper player (and they might be right ;-). Good luck with the playing.

I like the tone that this guy gets on a Marcustio - don't know what the signal chain is, but the mids & highs sound great - lows lack the DB frequencies.

They bumble along with nearly 3 million monthly listeners and a couple of songs exceeding 140 million streams. Yes pop music as in short for popular, as opposed to unpopular music, e.g. my music 🙂

Blue Lagoon is the only Bristol bar I know that does party bangers and is large enough, and yes you need to get to know the booker. It's good for load in/out as well.

Incidentally I looked at Thomann and the Spiros say Light on the packet instead of Weich. I know Weich means Light but wasn't sure why they've translated the weight, do you think they're exactly the same?. Looked elsewhere and most UK places are out of stock. Thanks

I've not had this problem with Obligatos or any strings, but maybe it depends on how much playing you do. If I play infrequently and my fingers get sore, I wrap masking tape round them just once or twice, just enough to protect the pads but keep the feel of the strings.

I used to have a stentor 1950, great gigging bass. Thomastik: Spirocore Weichs are great strings and last forever, and for extra lightness some people use the solo set instead of orchestra set. I used the orchestra set on my Stentor. I currently have Presto nylon wounds on, which are really easy on the hands, but have more of a gut-like thud than a growl I’d say.
