  1. I think the NS end pin fits the NXT - the chinos are optional 😉
  2. Cool place and epic band😎
  3. County Durham Gem Archer (guitarist with Oasis) Martha (from Pity Me) Prefab Sprout (from Witton Gilbert) Voorhees Trevor Horn (of The Buggles) Penetration
  4. Simon Dupree - Kites - one of my favourites 60s songs.
  5. I'd say you have a burning cigarette sitting in the curled end of the E or A string and it's scorched the headstock. Or you just slot your cigarette under the string just above the nut and when it burns down, voila! I do that all the time 😉
  6. Was listening to Jamie's cullem's Radio 2 show last night and he played John McLaughlin and mentioned that he also played with this band.
  7. Anyone know what the stock strings are on a TM4 SL? Or what would sound similar. Thanks
  8. Unless you want the christmas lights on your bass, I'd save myself £600 and just have a discrete bit of electrical tape on the third and fifth 'fret' position, a bit like what you have but fewer. Your fingers will work out the in-between positions. I have these two markers on my double bass.
  9. How do I watch this? I've got a smart TV, do I need the Disney+ app or something? Can you get a trial account or just buy to watch this show? Any tips... Thanks
  10. Lanterns on the Lake, The Thekla, Bristol. Howay man !!
  11. I did see Stuart at the London Bass Show a couple of years back, and he did a really cool Going to California solo piece. Here's another one..
  12. Typical covers band 🤣
  13. Ha ha, I love the cigarette smoke wafting over the stage, and when the drums come in, just on the symbols. Cool as f@ck…
  14. Another one from the master Danny Thompson.
  15. Yamaha SLB-200, Eminence, or Mo Clifton might suit your spec physical-wise, but all rare and over your budget, unless heavily used. Good luck with your search.
  16. Hi mate, I doubt you'll find a better place than Thomann for the stick basses. They might not be great quality, but at least they have the neck dimensions and fingerboard of an acoustic double bass, so you can play pizzicato and arco, albeit with a tendency to spin a bit while playing. Mid-range there's the Warwick Triumph Lite, but I've never tried one and reviews vary wildly like most other things. Good luck with your search.
  17. It sometimes works the other way round - you learn to play on acoustic upright, then when you start gigging you start looking around for an EUB that can sound similar to an amplified acoustic, and is easier to transport and fit into smaller venues. 😉
  18. Glad you had a good ride with that mate. I wish I could've seen one of your gigs. That's a fitting tribute to one of the UK's finest singer/songwriter/bassist/musician.
  19. Anyone been checking out this advert that's poppin up on this site? It's got some very tasty bass playing and sounds, Sandberg action, and dunno what Dave Swift's playing but sounds cool as well. As to the actual system, if I was in the market for something like this I'd like to try it.
  20. Sorry yes maybe it was just a DVD, with a little booklet containing the exercises. I tried a couple of others, which were just waffle, Ed's DVD got me started properly using the right posture and hand positions etc.
  21. I found Jazz Upright Bass Featuring Ed Friedland book & CD very good at teaching the basics of fretting and pizz hand techniques. The techniques are applicable to many other musical styles as well though. Depending on what you want to play on it, you might want to raise the action as high as it will go as a starter - it tends to be really low on these.
  22. I've never seen one TBH live, only on YT, but good luck with your search. Eminence and BSX Allegro seem to be the only smaller-bodied alternatives, very rare as well in the UK, I think the CE has the edge soundwise with the extra body.
  23. Had to google Quebe Sisters and have a listen - what a brilliant band, I'd not heard of western swing before. Danny Thompson...say no more. The guy from the Hot Sardines also plays one
  24. It’s a Czech-Ease I think. Very nice !
