2.
Nice looking bass.... hope the profit goes to Sue Ryder foundation........... Worthwhile charity and a good bass that was sold to help the needy
I wouldnt think there is much profit if any after doing those mods. anyway GLWTS
 3.
Love it
Snap it sounds fantastic
 4. My son is 10 and he wants to learn guitar/or bass now I have showed him a few bits on bass but now he has his mind on guitar and believe it or not the school he goes to does not teach guitar of any form or drums all they seem to want to teach is the violin or brass instruments so looks like he will have to go for private lessons I think where you are in the country has alot to do with what schools teach when we lived in Essex the schools really did a lot of musical related stuff but here in the sticks lol it is a struggle to unless you pay for private lessons which can be very expensive. I have seen some of the musical workshops that run in some places around the country they look really good and could be the way forward? I also do not think kids need a bass icon such as Flea or Jaco or whoever to get them interested but perhaps I am wrong.
 5. Sorry to hear of your bad news. I tend to agree with most others sell the lot and replace it when you can at the end of the day they are all fairly available and easy to replace and personally I think the Squiers and MM basses will sell the easiest. Hope things work out for you
 6.
If you watch yourself play, or pretty much anyone, most people tend to play over a pickup. This prevents you digging in too much during faster passages. Having a ramp between the pickups, or over any other area of exposed body enables the same thing. It just smooths out your playing, there's a tendency when not playing over something for the finger tips to get more attack, and accent the notes. Obviously sometimes this is something that you want, so in that case a ramp may get in the way, without modifying your technique anyway If I'm playing jazz for example, I like to play closer to the neck for a warmer sound.
Lovely very well explained cheers mate
 7. Blimey that is a cool looking bass
 8. Bargain but at least your moving away from the dark side now mate Hope Master discreet gets what he wants from Santa. GLWTS not that you should need much at that bargain price
 9. Thanks chaps oh what to try what to try choices choices choices lol
 10. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-precision-V4-BASS-GUITAR-NECK-loaded-with-Wilkinson-machine-heads-/200989314560?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2ecbe58e00 This would be a good buy 40 quid and Wilkinson tuners on it with free P+P
 11.
You're going to struggle to find anything for £30 in all likelihood. There is a bass in east yorkshire on Gumtree for £70 here: http://www.gumtree.c...itar/1039555613 Yamaha's are fantastic basses, even the cheap ones, so would be an ideal cheap bass if you can save some pennies.
This is very true but all is not lost you can sometimes pick up cheap necks or a broken bass on ebay for a few quid but in reality £30 wont get you much you could also save a bit more and get a used Peavey Milestone or an Aria STB for about 50 quid if you look around
 12. So is the only purpose for a ramp is to anchor your thumb any where between the PUPs or does it serve another purpose also? I just wondered as ramps seem to be getting more common place now.
 13.
Very nice.......itching for another myself
Me too but I am running out of room lol
 14.
How did your tattoo artist find that old picture of me as my alter ego, Clarkella?
Didn't you know? those pictures are all over the internet lol
 15. And that
Hope nobody minds but i've changed the price as lots of people have been messaging me saying I'm ripping myself off with this one.
And that is why basschat is a cool place cos most people on here are real diamonds who make it the kind of community it is and should be
 16.
Nice, I've seen the original pic before. I have a cartoon cat playing upright bass, ripped from the El Toro Please Give Me Something: Roots of the Stray Cats album http://www.raucousre...ray-cats-cd.jpg and I'm booked in to get F holes on my shoulders this Thursday coming.
Hope no one really thinks you are a bass with those F holes ......could make a terrible mess if some one decided to strum you lol
 17. Lovely thanks for the info guys really appreciate that
 18. I was reading about strings in another thread and I have decided that I would like to try some now this may be a silly question but are they available in standard gauge 45-105 as I cannot find any online they all seem heavier in general I honestly do not know much about flats as maybe you can tell lol so do I also have to re set up my bass if I put them on? I am guessing yes and what would you guys recommend I have heard fantastic things about Labellas and Thomastiks but I really don't fancy spending £40+ just in case I don't like them I have seen some Fender flats online and they are about £20 a set does anyone have any experience of these? or know of anything that my be good at around that kind of price point? and I mostly play with a pick now so will pick playing ruin a flat wound string really quickly or is it OK to use a pick with this type of string? I am sure I will think of something else to ask lol but thanks in advance anyway guys
 19.
You might want to go all the way to flats and see how you like those first. It's a bit like Goldilocks sampling porridge...
Yeah or could it be Marmite syndrome? You either love em or hate em?
 20.
It's a tone thing as well as feel, you get a bit more thud and less sparkle then round wound strings gives you, I find there is less noise from the frets to.
Thanks for that I may try these some time as I like more thump and not so much of a bright "twang" for want of a better word will have a good hard think about this as I am never happy with my strings I have tried lots of brands but none have really clicked with me I am using Picato strings at present and must admit I do like them I always used to use Ernie Ball strings but went off them as I did not think the price matched the quality. It is most likely in my head I am a nightmare always chopping and changing strings lol
 21. Is the advantage of this type of string is just that they are easier on the fingers to play or do they add more thump to your bass?
 22.
Can't believe this is still for sale !! It's a beauty
Sign of the times most people are skint
 23.
Funny this thread should pop back up today... My Retrovibe is ageing really nicely and I wanted to change the scratchplate to better show that fact off. So this afternoon I had a walk to Screwfix for a can of white Plastikote! It needs a sand down and another coat to fix a few problems but other than that I'm really please how it came out Now the question is...do I paint the pick up covers too?
Looking good I would not bother painting the pup covers you can buy some nice cream or aged white ones on ebay for about 4 quid cheaper than buying the paint unless you still have some
