1.
I've been using the Avalon for over a year now, first with a Crown XTi power amp, then a Crest CA9, through a Barefaced Super Twin. The first thing to say is, yes, you can feed the power amp and the DI at the same time. Like you say, use the line level for the power amp and the mic level for the DI and it works a treat. i first heard the Avalon when doing some recording, and thought that's the tone I want live. I love this setup - simple, clean and oozing quality. The Crown amp was good, but the Crest is amazing. On the Avalon, I tend to bypass the EQ presets and it sounds so clear and musical. Enjoy!
Lovely looking (and I bet sounding!) rig there mate. Can I ask how you transport the Avalon? I have the rack ears kit and was wondering wether to rack mount it with the Chevin or seperately so I can take it on it's own for recording and what not!
2. Thanks all for your replies. I originally wanted the Berg 310, but gave up waiting for one and bought the Chevin and Vanderkley instead. Been using the U5 into the front of the Tonehammer 500 into 2x Berg AE210s and the sound was marvellous, but working on a ship for months at a time, bringing a rig on and off was beginning to be a ball ache, therefore I made the tough (yeah, right!) decision to buy a power amp for the U5 and use it as an amp for a second rig (...Cue wallet emptying)
3. I've bought a Chevin A1000 to go with my Avalon U5 as a pre/power amp setup, to be used with a Vanderkley 4Ohm 212, and I'm unsure if the whole setup can do what I need it to. Now here is the question: The Chevin only has XLR inputs, so I assume to take the Line Level XLR output from the Avalon into the Chevin, to send to my cab. If I do this, can I simultaneously use the Mic Level XLR to send to the desk? If not, would using the Link output on the Chevin function the same as sending a Line Level signal to the desk? New to the whole "Pre/Power amp" setup so just a few questions to avoid blowing myself and/or the gear up!
4. Just switched from George L's to Lava Cable.
5. Will the original Pedaltrain Nano be of any use? I have a spare I could sell you! It's a little bit smaller than the Nano+ I think, but if everything will fit on to it you're welcome to have it!
6. Cheers man. Just ordered another couple of lava jacks and some cable for the last couple of connections. Finished pics coming later this week! Cheers
7. Got a GigRig Generator, Quartermaster 6 and some Lava Cable and redid my board today. Haven't routed up the audio yet but power is all sorted and i'm happy with the layout. The bass flanger is purely there for placement purposes as it will be an LS-2 being used as an A/B pedal for 2 basses. LS2>TLC>Quartermaster 6>Thumpinator Loop 1 > Octamizer 2 > Darkglass VMT 3 > Darkglass B3K 4 > X-Blender with Muff/Pickle clone in the loop 5 > Filter Twin 6 > Send to Turbo Tuner Then into Avalon u5>Chevin A1000>Vanderkley 212. Really like the Lava cables. Previously had all George L's but the jacks of these are tiny and they really feel more secure! The Distributor/Generator system is awesome too. Further pics to come once its finished!
8. Met Richard today in London to buy his Strat. Communication was excellent, goods as described, sale went without a hitch! Cheers pal James

Quasar DLX here. Fantastic phaser with LOTS of features, but quite pricey. Worth it though if you're looking for that kind of thing.

Would anyone here be up for building me an A/B box with a tuner mute? I have a specific orientation in mind that no one else seems to make, and I don't have the time or equipment for building pedals any more! Nothing special, just 2 switches, an LED for each channel and the tuner mute, doesn't need any fancy graphics or anything...PM me with a quote! Cheers
11. Thanks all! Off on the ship again tomorrow for 5 months, so will be putting her through her paces pretty solidly! I'm sure she'll hold up fine!
12. Played it tonight at a jam night and it absolutely sings. Absolutely chuffed!
13. Cheers man...really can't wait to use this beast live!
14. Yeah going back on wednesday pal! When are you back on there?
15. It's here, and it's everything I dreamed it would be! Feels amazing to play. The flats on it are D'Addario chromes I think, and they're obviously brand new so still sound quite bright. Once they get worn in it will be even better! Here's a quick couple clips I knocked up just now. The playing isn't the best - no metronome etc, just aimlessly noodling! DI'd from my Tonehammer 500 amp pre-eq, nothing added in Logic, literally as flat as possible. https://soundcloud.com/higgie142/sets/shuker-p5-clips
16. Not very long at all! My first Shuker (the Jazz 5) took just over a year. Jon quoted me 6-8 months on this one and has come in right at about 6 months from when he started building it, following a few weeks of throwing emails back and forth deciding on specs. The neck has exactly the same dimensions as my Jazz 5 too, so should feel exactly the same to play...Just with a big, round, and thumpy P Bass tone!
17. Well I'm off on the ship again for 5 months on wednesday, with a lot of stuff to do before I go, so might not get a chance to do soundclips etc, but I'll try! And thanks yeah it is a great colour. I just love Pino's Precision so thought a 5 string version with flats would be exactly what I wanted, er... needed.
18. Yep! Got her strung with flats, can't wait to get my hands on it!
19. Just received these pictures last night of my Precision 5 String that Jon Shuker has been building me. It arrives tomorrow, and to say I am dribbling with anticipation is an understatement!
