1.
My theory has always been that bass is easier to start but harder to master. I know a few people who agree with me on that too. Liam
+1. Always been my philosophy too!
2. OK had an update from Jon, the bass will be ready to be picked up mid next week!! Just in time for my next contract abroad. Excellent! Here is a picture of the body Jon took ages ago but only just sent me yesterday - Hopefully there should be some pics of an almost finished bass in the next couple of days before I go to pick it up!
3. I met John at the London Bass Guitar show and cannot believe what a nice guy he is. We were having a chat in the pub afterwards and he bought me a drink. Really impressed with his MM Preamps too...definitely high up on my list of things to buy!
4. My 3 Squier JV Precisions: From left to right: 1982 Squier by Fender JV Precision, 57 re-issue, 2 tone sunburst, maple neck/fretboard. Original pickup long gone and replaced with a Dimarzio model P. Sounds amazing. I also added a Hipshot Detuner. 1982 Fender Squier Series JV Precision, 57 re-issue, 2 tone sunburst, maple neck/fretboard. It's had a Seymour Duncan jazz pickup added at the bridge, and I've added a Hipshot Detuner. 1983 Squier by Fender JV Precision, 62 re-issue, 3 tone sunburst, maple neck/unlined ebony fretless fingerboard (originally rosewood fretted) and EMG P/J pups installed. Active Vol/Vol/Tone config.
5. For me, he is the greatest. There is just a certain something about his playing that grabs my attention immediately, and never gets boring to listen to.
6. Damn! I'm gigging. Ah well, have a good time all you lucky people actually getting to go!
7. Working on cruise ships, I can't wear that kind of thing on stage unfortunately. My disco ball jump suit stayed in the wardrobe the entire contract
8.
That's mildly hideous, yet fantastic at the same time Chris! I would be tempted, except I don't currently own a SR5...
Well I do own an SR5 (That is already fairly garish with it's silver glitter finish) and thought, why not just go full on ridiculous?
9.
Updated pic. Same pedals, but with uber-high quality switching and fully jacketed George Ls
Very very nice! Good job on the underneath too!
10. Ok, so I go back on board the ship on the 7th of April, Jon has assured me the bass will be ready by then...So tantalising waiting for the email saying "It's Ready!", but should be this week I hope!! Hopefully should be getting some pics to whet my appetite too!
11. Looks exactly the same as my 89. Fantastic basses these. IMO up there with the Pre-Ernie Ball as the best era for Stingrays!
12. Yeah I guess I could live without the gate function, although to be honest, I haven't experimented with it much. No worries mate, PM replied.
13. Cheers mate! Mine has the standard diode toggle (can't remember what's actually in there though lol.) and the other toggle switch (which I custom requested, and I think is now a proper option when ordering) is a tone bypass. Takes the tone knob completely out of the signal chain. You get a bit more volume, and its just your signal, no additional EQ, with however much fuzz you want to put on it. I got the idea from a Swollen Pickle clone I have with a 4 way tone stack modifier. I found it funny that I bought a Fuzz that would do 3 different era Big Muff tone stacks, and ended up using it on the tone bypass mode, haha And of course the second footswitch is for the Gate control. Not sure about the Gate. Seems I have to have it turned ALL the way up to get any sound out of it all, and when I do it's so quiet I have to bump the volume knob up quite a bit. Just makes the footswitch useless as you have to change settings to go between gated and ungated anyway. I was hoping for a gate I could just turn on that would tighten up the sound, but its pretty much unusable in it's current incarnation. I don't really mind though, as I bought the Stache for a more traditional Fuzz sound, while the Oxide takes care of the gated and synthier sounds!
14. I've got a Loopmaster patcher I'm not using. Basically a tiny box with in/out/send/return jacks. You put the whole board in the send and return, then just plug in and out. Makes your board neat and tidy too by having the cables all going to one place. Let me know if you want it!

16. A little update from me...Just put together my 3rd Nano: And here's the underside: And just for fun here are some pics of the other 2 Nanos and their undersides: I have changed the Power Supply now to a Diago Micro9 as it fits nicely underneath the Nano. Board 1 is the main board that comes to every gig, it has a daisy chain with 8 outputs on it, so I can power all 4 pedals on the board, and then 2 of the spare outputs will power the other 2 Nanos, and still have 2 outputs left for any additional pedals that aren't on the boards. I'm really liking the modular setup, as taking a huge board with everything on to every gig was just getting to be a ball ache. Now I have 3 light separate boards that I can mix and match in any order depending on the gig. Signal chains are as follows: Nano 1 is the bare essentials that come to every gig including the ships - Sadowsky Pre/DI (Korg DT-10bk on Tuner out)>Aguilar TLC>Darkglass B3K which plugs into: Nano 2, for the rock covers gigs when I'm home that require Fuzz/Octave/Filter (playing Muse, RHCP, RATM etc) - Aguilar Octamizer>Iron Ether Oxide> Custom Fuzzrocious Grey Stache>Aguilar Filter Twin>SFX Micro Thumpinator then onto: Nano 3, which as you can see, is mostly the Modulation board (I count the Prometheus as Modulation as I will generally use it for it's Auto-Wah capabilities, although it will of course double as a second filter in case the Filter Twin is setup for a certain sound) - Subdecay Prometheus>Subdecay Quasar DLX>Boss BF-2B>Analogman Mini Chorus (w/ hardwired deep mod) Sorry for the massive post, just excited to finally get my pedal setup sorted!
17. For sale a fantastic condition Bergantino AE210. These cabs are great. So much so we actually ended up with 5 of them in our house. This one is spare to requirements. Dad bought it, and after trying it I bought two of the horizontal orientation ones. Another couple of these came up so Dad bought them, leaving the vertical one spare. It has seen one gig, which was used alone with a Tonehammer 500, and it sounded great. I believe this to be one of the very best 2x10s I've ever played. It's at least a 9.9/10 condition-wise (I say 9.9 in case of any slight blemish I haven't found), and also comes with the official Bergantino padded cover. It's 8 ohms, 400 watts, and weighs just 40lbs. It's a comfortable one hand lift, and it's sound defies it's size. £450 ovno. Local pickup preferred, but courier can be arranged at buyer's expense. Pictures to follow. Cheers
18.
I would bet good monet that you have too much bass and too little low mid. I used to have similar issues years ago the solution was to have some lo mid yo punch the slap parts through and fatten up the fingerstyle. Works a treat but you have to lose the deep bass a bit or it will be muddy.... Oh and heavier strings (45 to 130 on my 5 string) can help too....
This this this!! Low mids are your friend. I'm gonna get the East MM Preamp for my Stingray. Tried it at the bass show and loved it. Mid frequency knob rolled down near the bottom, and the slightest boost just gives this huge punchy but still authentic Stingray sound. I agree with you on the string gauges too. I've tried lighter gauge strings and always thought they sounded thinner. Maybe it's a technique thing? How hard do you dig in with your fingers? I found that if you're digging in particularly hard, it really de-emphasises the transition to slap. I try to let the amp do all the work, and play with a light touch finger style, so when you switch to slap, dynamics-wise it really stands out. There's also the option of rolling down your bass volume so you can dig in and then roll it right up for the slap parts? I've never tried it, but it could work I guess! Hope some of that drivel was helpful
19. Jon just bought my Big One (ooh er...) and he couldn't have been more of a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended, would 100% deal with him again. Enjoy the cab dude! Cheers mate
20. IME it doesn't matter. All you need to know is, it's 8ohms and off you go
21. Cab now sold. Thanks everyone for all the interest!
22. Sorry Conan but I'm all sorted cab-wise! Cash only I'm afraid.
23. It's cool that you have to put the price in it's own field now, but I put £450 initially by mistake and now it won't change when I edit it, so yes £400 + postage is the price. Absolute bargain with the cover included.
24. Anyone interested in a Barefaced Bass "Big One" Cab? It's a really light, absolute powerhouse of a cab, containing a 15" speaker, and a 6" driver for the midrange (with a studio quality crossover inside) and all handmade in the UK. This cab will literally take any amp you throw at it, laugh at you for worrying if it could handle it, and then spit out the most beautiful bass tone as a result. It has wheels on the back at the bottom, and a handle on top so you can drag it round like a suitcase, plus handles on the side. You can literally lift it over your head, it's that light. Its 8ohms by the way, and comes with a RoqSolid cover, that is black with blue piping. It's in pretty decent condition, I'd say 8.5-9/10, pics to follow shortly. Bought it about 5 months ago on here, used it on 2 gigs, then went away for 3.5 months, and haven't used it since I've been back, so hoping to get back what I paid for it, which was £400. I'll do it for a little less if you collect, but meet up somewhere in Essex/East London would be preferred! Postage can be arranged at Buyer's expense. Cheers
