1.
Fair enough but what did you think it might be worth? You must have had some idea when you asked the question. It obviously is worth more than £100 and probably more than £600. It might even be worth the £1100 I suggested. Actually I don't know because there is no history of used Shuker values. With major brands there is a history and you can at least make track the values and depreciation. Supply and demand will eventually decide it's value. Also it all depends on what's put up on offer. I might take a pair of cheaper basses, a really nice original MM Sterling would be good. Maybe a 100-watt Hiwatt head. I don't need it, maybe someone else does so it's up for grabs.
I really wasn't sure what it would be worth, having no idea of how much it cost to be built, etc. I picked up my Shuker Jazz here 2nd hand for just over £600, so if you was looking for somewhere within say another £250 on top of that, I could have tried to sort something out. I don't know if it's just me, but I'm getting a slightly hostile vibe from your reply, so I'm sorry if I offended you with my original question or response, or if I'm completely off the mark then I apologise for getting the wrong end of the stick. Cheers
2. Ok mate cheers. Haven't got anything close to that I'd be willing to trade, and haven't got the cash to make up for it either. And for that reason, I'm out!
3. Hello Dave, what kind of value are you placing on it for trades?
4. Just because it's a Minor scale doesn't mean every interval in the scale is Minor! In the C Major scale for example, chord 1 is Major (C), chord 2 is Minor (Dm), and chord 3 is minor (Em). Even though the interval from Root to 3rd is Major, the Major 3rd of the scale's own chord is Minor. In your example, you say in the Minor scale, the 2nd is D. That's because in the Minor scale, the interval from Root to 2nd is still a Major one, ie C to D. And as Kirky said, a minor 2nd up from C would be Dflat. Hope this helps, I'm not very good at trying to explain theory
5. Hi Dannybuoy, firstly thanks for the compliment on my playing The strings on the P-Bass when Sir Duke was recorded were DR Fat Beams (that were fairly dead) if memory serves correctly, the ones that were on for the Marvin Gaye video are D'Addario Prosteels. Both were recorded the exact same way: I take a headphone splitter cable out of the iMac, sending one to the Speakers, and the other to the Aux in on my PJB Bass Buddy, which my bass and headphones are plugged into so I can hear the track and my bass. The speakers are left on so that when I record the video I can synchronise the Audio perfectly at the end. The track is imported into Logic, and the Bass is recorded via the Line Out from the PJB into the Line In on a Lexicon Alpha Interface. I usually then add the stock Logic Bass Amp to the Bass Channel to boost the volume and make any adjustments to the EQ. I then bring the track volume down a touch to make the bass stand out a little. Then it's a Stereo bounce down to an .m4a which is then imported into iMovie and synched with the video that's been recording the whole time Cheers
6. I just use Transcribe! to shift the MP3 up a semi tone when I play a long...Simples!
7.
Yeah nice and thin, having said that my 2002 or so Japanese '57ri p bass wasn't much chunkier. I got a shock when I tried out a american '57ri and found how chunky the necks are. I much prefer the wider flat shape. Mine says Fender on the headstock too so deffinatly in the first 6 months of production. A `JV024xx serial. I think I got the date wrong in my sig. Has your one the alder body or the sen 'ash' body with the bigger graining?
I see! I much prefer this neck to any other P Neck I've played anyway! Oooh, lucky bugger! Mine is a Squier by Fender, and is JV127xx. I really have no clue what body it is! I wouldn't say it was heavy, but it's not particularly light either, I reckon it could be one of the Ash ones. What is yours? And thanks Krysh!
8. http://youtu.be/rRPI9XSLnNc Just uploaded this, let me know what y'all think Cheers
9. http://youtu.be/rRPI9XSLnNc I've been trying to work on my sight reading so I thought I'd record myself trying to play this from the transcription in the "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" book. Using my trusty JV Precision again, into the PJB Bass Buddy and then into Logic. All comments and criticisms welcome!
10. Mark bought my VT Bass pedal from me. Very smooth deal, quick payment etc. Everything you'd hope for in a buyer Thanks mate and enjoy your pedal!
11. Here is the full transcription, from Bass Player Magazine. Pretty accurate, and has both tab and notation. Good luck - I expect a video once you've learnt it
12. I've just finished doing some full bass transcriptions for Rasta on this forum, and I think he will attest that my work is of high quality. PM me and we can discuss an appropriate fee.
13. Seen it before, but still gives me a good giggle! Thanks for reminding me of it
14. Just for future notice these cabs were sold about 2 years ago! I forgot to update the add and have had a couple of enquiries. Check the dates of the threads when you search, people!
15.
I just love the neck. Not found much else that touches it. The slightly bigger radius on the edges of the body are good too- Looking at the entwhistle bass book collection thing the older pre 1962 or so P basses all looked like they had slightly bigger radius too. Compared to the current AV '62ri..... I know what I would pick!
Yeah, the neck on mine is really thin from front to back for a P Bass - None of that chunky "Baseball bat" neck that a lot of the older P's have. Even my dad's Squier JV's neck was different, so I don't know whether mine has been modified (It doesn't look to have been) but it's from Oct. 82 so within the first 6 months of production. What's the thickness on yours?
That was just a pleasure to watch and listen to.
Thanks very much for taking the time to watch and listen - and glad that time spent was enjoyable for you!
You mean his pants? Not yet.
LOL. Brilliant!
Absolutely wonderful!
Thanks very much!
Watched both vids and kinda made my day. Nice feel, very relaxed playing and great sound. So easy to listen to. One and only issue i had was - you make it look so bloomin easy. Thanks for posting. Dave
Hi Dave Thanks very much for your feedback - I'm glad my videos had such a positive effect on your day! I'm still amazed by the feedback I've received in this thread. I'm very flattered. Happy New Year everyone. James
16. I've played this bass and it is awesome. I'd also like to mention the lower cutaway on this bass is beautiful, the only bass I've ever played that lets you play the full range of the fretboard both effortlessly and comfortably. Whoever buys this bass is getting an absolute bargain at this price. Really is up there with the other "Super" Jazzes that cost more. I'd have bitten Ziggy's arm off for it if I had the cash!
17. Thanks a lot mrtcat, and cheers John - You're welcome to pop round any time. I seem to remember I still owe you a lesson after you took me to see Living Colour! And Luke - The JV is seriously the best P Bass I've ever played. Got it off here for an absolute bargain!
18. It's still here - Not sure I want to part with it though! PM me and we'll talk. Cheers!
19. Thanks guys! Would be very much appreciated if you follow RichF's lead and Subscribe to my channel
20.
Saw Paul at a clinic in Great Yarmouth, would you believe it.... With Derrick and the guitarist whose name escapes me. Really great guys, all of them... Question and answer session with instruments, very cool!
Rob Harris I think his name is...Turner is brilliant - Met him just the once but he was a really nice guy to talk to, and totally down to earth. I'm a big fan of his for sure!
21.
and a Rush anthology in the background too, good man.
Really need to spend more time with this...Bought it for the transcription of YYZ...So far it's the only one I've learned! Thanks xgsjx, and Gareth, I'm glad my version of this tune inspired you to learn it...Get a video of yours up - I'd love to see your take on it
22.
Time for the holiday photo - everyone sqeeze in and smile
Bloody hell! More knobs there than Jenna Jameson's back catalogue!
