I bought both these cabs and am soooo impressed with them. One of these babies at 8ohm (ie only getting half the power from my amp) is louder and bassier than 2 8ohm DB112's was. I've only ever had to use one cab where as I sold my dual 112 setup because I wasn't loud enough! I found myself in the same situation as Gareth - the tone of the 12's was just perfect...but with one problem: I wasn't loud enough. My solution? Get MORE 12's!
You can always get an effects loop pedal
That will still go into the front of the amp though, not what the OP was asking at all.

I always found I could hear myself better by bumping the mids a little bit. Scooping the EQ just results in a woofy clanky mess I find (obviously depending on how much!). I usually boost the bass and treble, then add just a touch more mids, so your still boosting everything for a bit more oomph, but just the mids a tad more to cut through!

Awesome! PM sent. Also for sale: Tonefactor Pulp Mill Compressor - I believe this pedal is one of a kind. It's a clone of the original Orange Squeezer circuit with some modifications to optimise it for Bass use. Lots of vintage thump here! Good condition, no box or manual £75 + postage EHX NYC Bassballs - Not the nano, the older, but still smaller than the Russian version. Brand new condition, has velcro on the bottom, original battery door is around here somewhere...£30 + postage Either can be picked up too. Pics coming soon. -
Ok up for sale is my Analogman Chorus. It's in absolutely mint condition and comes with the original box and manual. It's got the 3 way toggle switch ($25 upgrade), and Depth and Speed controls. This would be £165 + shipping and import duty from Analogman, looking for £135 collected, or + postage, which ever you prefer. *SOLD* Cheers Can take pictures of the actual unit if needed, but it's mint and looks exactly like this: Also for sale: Tonefactor Pulp Mill Compressor - I believe this pedal is one of a kind.
Lovely board Higgie - plenty of fun to be had with that!
Thanks mate, there certainly is!
higgie, how are you finding the aguilar compared to something like the ebs or mxr bod?
Hi mate, tried the EBS once and didn't like it. Was a very firm advocate of the OC-2, thought I'd never own another Octave pedal. Bought this bad boy on a whim due to all the reviews it was getting and I was sold. Absolutely love it!
Are you using the Cream Pie as a volume boost there? Ive started to love mine again recently.
Not really a volume boost, just a general tone shaper! Gain/Tone on minimum allows me to just fatten my sound and add a touch of grit. Great pedals!

I know it sounds strange, but I could instantly do it from day 1. My dad is a bass player and I grew up watching him practice. He's not a slap player at all though, he just used to try and do the odd bit, but as soon as I picked up the bass I had the right motion, and was pretty accurate. The only thing I've had to work on was speed and groove. The actual technique just always came naturally! It took me longer to learn pick and fingers than it did slapping!

Current board I just wired up. X2>DT-10>Octamizer>Cream Pie>Prunes and Custard>XBlender>SFT>Prometheus>Analogman Swollen Pickle Clone>MSD Wah in the XBlender loop. Line 6 Echo Park plugged in off the side for home jamming.

I've got a Line 6 Echo Park that I would like to put on my PT-2, but sticking velcro to the rubber base never works, the velcro just comes off the pedal and stays stuck to the board. I peeled the rubber back off and its got some dodgy uneven surface that wont take velcro by itself either. To anyone who has one of the small single Line 6 pedals....How did you do it?! I'm at my wits end!
That Aguilar 2x2x12 stack must sound absolutley MASSIVE.. HUGE..!!!
It does! You can feel your balls vibrating!

I haven't tried the GigRig unit but I really wouldn't be without my X-Blender. It's the most useful pedal I own!
It annoys me when people consider effects as only existing to cover up bad playing. *snip* Basically I use my pedals to make sounds that I want to make but my bass can't, I consider them as extensions of the instrument I'll stop ranting now
They are crucial IMO. Effects don't have to be crazy sound altering devices anyway, a very light Chorus can help fatten the bass sound up without being an obviously "effected" tone, and obviously low gain OD's and Compressors go without saying. I have lots of pedals because I like to keep an open mind. A tasteful application of Effects can really make or break a bass line! For example, Sir Psycho Sexy by RHCP, the dirty squelching bass tone just makes that whole song. Wouldn't sound anywhere near as good without it! Also Calm Like a Bomb by RATM springs to mind with that huge distorted wah tone!
I've got a load of pedals and a couple of multi effects, and on the vast majority of gigs,I don't use any of them. Not even a compressor. For me,it's all about having options. If I need to use a particular effect,it's there. I'd hate to be asked for a certain sound on a gig and not be be able to do it,so I have pretty much everything covered just in case.
This!
