Yeah, not too fond of the Morley (Is it the Dual Bass Wah you're talking about?) - I've had before and sold it after getting the 105Q, so I know that I prefer the 105Q over the Morley. Also, the Morley is pretty huge, as is the Weeping Demon, so they're both out...

Have you tried raising the pickups? My dad has a Squier VMJ (not fretless) and the output is pretty hot.

First album is indeed a Stingray, a 2 Band EQ model IIRC. It can be seen in the Bullet In The Head video

I found the best feature of the Nordstrand replacement pickup was that it brought my G string back. I just couldn't hear it live with the stock pickup!

I haven't got the East Pre, but I swapped the MM pickup out for a Nordy 4.2 and it brought my G string back from the dead. Absolutely fantastic pickup. I do wish my bass was a 2 band though!
