I apologise, my recording setup is TERRIBLE!! This is the P+C used just by itself: Deeper Underground And into the Maxon AF-9: Sir Psycho Sexy Ok so I did these soundclips yonks ago, and they probably aren't as accurate as the sounds I've got now, but they give you a basic idea I've got a soundclip of using it with the Subdecay Prometheus and Boss OC-2 with a bit of Analog Delay, but I haven't been able to upload it for some reason, so PM your address and I'll send it over.

You won't get the "Light Years" sound with a Mutron or any standalone filter pedal. You will need some kind of fuzz (I would recommend the Crowther Prunes and Custard - Really squlechy synthy sound by itself) then run that into a filter, and you'll be somewhere close. Ps. Were you using the Maxon AF-9 on Band Pass or Hi Pass modes? Always stick to Low Pass with a bass, unless you are using a signal blender like the Barge VFB2/Xotic XBlender, otherwise you will lose low end. I never found the Maxon to suck the lows at all in Low Pass mode.

I've used it yeah. Compared it side by side with my Mutron It DOES do a great impression of the Mutron. Not exactly spot on, but it's got it's own character that's very pleasant on the ears. It's also smaller, has True Bypass (the bypass on the original Mutron is terrible), has an LED, and then not to mention the step filter mode (which can be tamed into an auto-wah) make it altogether a better option unless you absolutely cannot live without the "Mutron" sound. As I said before, if my Mutron were to break or be stolen (or even if I decide the Mutron takes up too much board space ) it's the Subdecay I would replace it with. That slot used to be open for a Maxon AF-9 (sounds more Mutronish than the Subdecay) but it isn't as versatile so I figure the Subdecay is the best bang for the buck. Not cheap, it's one of those pedals that you'll be glad of spending the money on afterwards Cheers Hope that helps!

It was the Vexter version IIRC.
OK, finally dragged my arse down there in my lunch hour today. Brought my bass and tried out a few pedals so here's some initial thoughts on a few that I've been interested in for a while. First up I tried the ZVEX probe wah. I'm curious about this pedal due to the 'non contact' factor and the small size footprint appeals. The novelty value of the wah effect generated from the pedal magically tracking the movement of my foot was well cool but there was too much low end loss. It doesn't appear to be bass-friendly although it does have internal trim pots which I didn't have time to mess with tho so please don't take this micro review as fact. I then tried the ZVEX Vexter box of Rocks. I spent 10 minutes trying to coax a usable sound out of this pedal but it was having none of it. For geetars only. Next up was the drool worthy Fulltone Clyde 3 voice wah. Holy mamma this wah is the bomb! First setting I tried, Wacked, just completely nails all thats good'n'groovy about wah on the bass. It just sounded pure filthy! No low end loss, true bypass, lovely dynamic sweep, very articulate sounding, made me feel naughty and hot like a good wah should! May have to buy this one - it beats my Ebs Wah One hands down and I was perfectly happy with my Ebs before trying this! The last pedal I tried was the Oxygen compressor by Oohlala. The logic behind wanting to try this is because the Oxygen has a dirt control and I still miss the light grind of the Fulltone Bassdrive (sold) which cannot be replicated by my new HyperPak, (This was purely an 'economy of space' decision so I could squeeze more pedals on my board). Aaanyway, first impressions were that the compression sounded ok but whenever I stopped playing I was getting this loud wave of hiss. I tried to tame this beast but no matter what I did I couldn't entirely get rid of it - only reduce it to slightly less loud. Also, the dirt knob doesn't appear to have any discernible effect whatsoever? Maybe it was a dud, I doubt it but who knows? Definately not good enough to knock the EBS multicomp from my board - just glad I didn't take a chance and bought it from the net - hooray local boutique pedal shop! I'm looking to head back in there later on in the week so next up I'm hoping to have a go of the Malekko brights and darks, the Fulltone Fatboost and the Way Huge Pork Loin, mmmm!
You really couldn't get a good sound from the Box of Rock? A Guitarist/Bassist friend of mine has one, and on Bass it sounds great!! He uses it as a grindy OD/Boost, and I've always thought it sounded awesome! You'll love the Malekko pedals, just got a 600 bright myself, and I love it, even though I already have an analog delay, it's got a different character to it, so both of them stay, rather than one as I originally intended The Fat Boost is nice too. Make sure it's an original though, as although the FB2 has bass and treble controls, I've heard they're not as good as the original. I used an original Fat Boost for AGES as my "always on" grit sound. It's a very nice pedal IMO.

Yes indeedy, and not the current model with green and red LEDs like the Silver, this is the original they did for a short period of time with blue LEDs for sharp/flat and white when you're in tune
I use a comfort strap with Dunlop strap locks. It’s a good combo
WIN! I've used these ever since I started playing and it's never once let me down!

I lent 1x15 combo to a friend once and it came back completely fried. It wasn't worth much, so wasn't really a problem (I'd only been playing a few months) but from then on I've been really careful about what I lent out and to whom. If it's someone I completely trust then no problem, but I'm wary. I had a gig last year in Camden, where we (as headliners) set up our equipment (I was using my Dad's LMII and 1x15 as my amp was out of action at the time), did the soundcheck, went for something to eat and the usual pre-gig chat etc. We returned back to the club, and the band that was playing's bassist had a really great tone. It gets to the end of the night, and he says to me "thanks for letting me use your amp". I almost decked him there and then. I had given no permission what so ever for anyone other than me to use my (loaned) gear, and they hadn't even asked if they could use it, even though they sat there and watched us soundcheck... He was pretty lucky not to receive a 1x15 to the face Just to reiterate my point - Lending gear to a trusted friend, no problem. Any one else, and it just spells trouble IMO. As was mentioned before in this thread: If you can't be bothered to bring your own gear to the gig, then you're not using mine. If I'm the only guy there with enough equipment to actually play, then sod the rest of you. It's not worth the hassle if something does break.

Believe it or not my room is actually in an even worse state than it was then!!

£240 is a laughable price for what seems to be an amatuer attempt at best. At £240 I'd be expecting this thing to whipe my arse for me too.

Ok, it's been way too long without updating this!! My gear has yet again drastically changed. No pics as of yet because I'm more wicked and lazy than David Byrne, but should have some pics in the next few weeks with some Aggie and Squier JV goodness Cheers

Ok, so I've got my Aguilar head now, but I had to skint myself to get it Really need to move this on. Will accept offers around the £200 mark. Someone please take this bargain! This is an amazing head, with 600 watts of power, cheap as chips due to the small problem with the input jack that I can't be bothered to get fixed. Even if you don't want to use it, someone please buy it and fix it up. You could sell it and make a profit. I don't care, I just need the cash!! -
I build a BYOC one, which is a clone of the DOD I believe. Sounds great, but needs to be set up carefully for the bass and amp. £44 and a fun project.
That would be a clone of the DOD 440, which is completely different to the FX25 that others have been talking about. The song the OP mentioned isn't actually an envelope filter but an auto wah. It's got a constant sweep controlled by an LFO. If you want a pedal that will do this, plus cover all the rest of your filter needs, with a sample and hold filter too, the Subdecay Prometheus will get you there. It's currently the forerunner in the list of which pedals I will buy as a backup to my Original Mutron. Great pedal. If you want something that's a little cheaper but can get this sound, and a fairly conventional filter sound, the MXR Bass Auto Q is a lot of fun. Bare in mind it will be nowhere near as versatile as the Subdecay pedal, which is what IMO, justifies the price difference. Try and buy used too, you'll save a lot of money I hope you find some kind of help in the above section of waffle!!
