Hi, I was given an old Laney cab. There are no markings or anything on the cab to indicate the wattage or impedance but the speaker is a Tornado STW155 Deep Bass subwoofer. Can anyone let me know what wattage and impedance this would be? Thanks

Update to original post. The head doesn't work, was an older Peavey but no sound from it tested with 2 other cabs. However, would still like some advice regarding the Laney cab, how can I test if it works without a head? The speaker and driver is pretty much a solid sealed unit and there is just a single split electrical lead from the speaker positive/negative terminals to the 1/4" lead input, nothing else. Hi, Ive been given an old Laney 15" cab. The speaker is intact but am getting no sound from my head. The head is rated at 400 watt/2 ohm and 200 watt/ 4 ohm. I have no idea what impedence the cab is as the markings have all but gone, the speaker is an STW155 Deep Bass. Can anyone advise me the rating of this and if it is the cause of no sound from the head. Many thanks Tim

[sub]Hi guys. Many thanks for the responses. The head is still in the workshop, the guy working on it although not expert with amps per se is pretty skilled with internal electrics and circuit boards, etc. I know he mentioned that the transistors attached to the heat sink had failed and he has now replaced all these, prior to that when the head was switched on it would blow the fuse immediately unless the power amp was disconnected. Any further ideas would be appreciated so I can pass them on .[/sub] [sub]Tim[/sub]

Hi Have had a tech(ish) guy look at this for me and he has replaced some transistors that had blown on the power amp. Thing is, when turning the head on, and without any cabs or guitar connected, the heat sink is getting incredibly hot ( too hot to actually touch ). The fan is running ok but why would the heat sink get so hot when the amp is basically not doing any work?? Cheers Tim

Mark, thanks again mate. Yes sorry, to be clear in the first post I had just disconnected the power amp from the pre amp board. The second post is the accurate one as the fuse does not blow when the power lead is disconnected from the power amp. Thanks Tim

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to internal electrics and circuitry but can't afford to get it repaired so happy to take a look myself and am a pretty quick learner. I noticed that each time I switched the unit on it was constantly blowing the power circuit fuse, however with the power amp module disconnected it all starts ok and the pre-amp shows all lights, and fan working? Any idea on this? If you could help me identify and locate specific components that would be great. Thanks Tim

Hi. Half way through gig and the sound cut out from my Hartke 3500 head. Have tested with alternative leads and cables. The unti powers up ok with all lights coming on, fan working and when bass is plugged in the compression light blinks as normal. I just disconnected the power amp module from the pre-amp and it blew the pwer fuse! Any ideas what the problem is?? Cheers Tim
