1. Someone told me that the MIM necks weren't such a good fit in the Chinese Squier and USA P basses - maybe I'm dreaming it though. Had a similar problem when I put a Squier neck in my old Sue Ryder P copy. Needed to dowel the screw holes in the neck and redrill to get the optimal fit - would this work for you? Alternatively sell the MIM neck and get a Mighty Mite - these fit spot on.
2.
MB1. NUFFINNK EFFER CELLS EN EAR TOETAL WAYST OV TYME! TIM.
Oh yea, I forgot about Tim......
3. Yup, Generally well pleased meself. 3 out of 4 of the current MTB stable is BC sourced and 100% of the amplification side.
4. That is a good price.....I paid within spitting distance of this for a 10 year old 75RI. If I had the readies I'd be biting.
5. Still haven't got around to taking pics of this B, but here's a link to Tonys original for sale thread which had a host of nice pics (hope you don't mind me using them T). http://basschat.co.uk/topic/160211-sold-pending-fender-jazz-usa-75-special-edition/page__p__1436188#entry1436188
6. Thanks for the advice guys. I guess it's coming down to 'love the bass you're with not the one you want'! Haven't gone with the 'has to be a US to be a proper Fender' for a long time, just evaluate it as a bass not whereit was made. The 75RI of mine is about 9lbs - I guess I'd struggle to find a real 75 Jazz that was as light. Now if it's staying should I fit the supplied chrome guards or will that devalue the bass lol.
7.
Having played countless 70s Fenders, owning some, and having had a brief spell with your '75 SE, I'd say you might seriously regret selling the CAR. It's a stunning instrument and might just be worth more than a 70's J eventually - it's really rare, beautifully made, a great player and with a classic tone. Also a sensible weight...my last mid '70s J was...err...substantial indeed. Unless you can find a really stunning 70's J at a great price, I'd hang on
Cheers Lawrence, Along with Bubinga's comment above I guess that's resoundingly down on the side of the 75SE. I have to admit I don't think I'd find a 70s that would play/sound better.......also I have to remember part exing a JV 57RI Precision against a US Jazz back in the late 80s because I didn't think Japanese Fenders held value well so maybe I have to learn my lesson!
8.
I'm not personally so into the specific models you mention, but this is my thought on any instrument.. If you've found one (whatever the brand, model etc) that blows your socks off DON'T LET IT GO! You'll regret it forever. Find something else to sell or else start saving if you want to seek out a specific model; you'll still have the real bonzer bass to play in the mean time. This is how collections begin
Haha.....I'd love a collection but to keep 'she that must be obeyed' sweet I stick to the 4 bass rule. A lightweight 4 fretted (for long gigs), a fretless 4, a beater 4 and a conventional looking 4 fretted (the Jazz).
9. So pretty much 2 - 0 in favour of keeping the FSR so far then. I read all the BC and TB threads on these before plumping so I gather they were considered a bit special. Luke, I also was of the understanding that these were alder but the finish on mine is very thin and the grain has absorbed the laquer showing the grain and it's clearly ash or the strangest bit of alder I've ever seen. I think I'd have to find at least £300 to make the 'upgrade' to a 70's so the jury is definitely still out.
10. Well I've been through a fair few Fenders in my time, Jap, Chinese, Mexican and US and to a lesser or greater extent I've enjoyed them all. My current (totally Fender) squeeze is a 2002 special run Jazz 75 reissue that replaced a Musicman 30th Ray. I thought I'd regret this decision but to be honest it's quite possibly the nicest Jazz I've played coupled with the best sounds. So what's the problem? Well I was originally looking for a nice 70s Jazz or P bass but nothing (in my price bracket) caught my eye......this 75RI came along and I thought I'd give it a run. So far it's IMHO beaten most 70s Fenders I've played in my time and my first run JV Precision (long gone unfortunately) but I still have a hankering to have a 'proper' vintage again. So, am I being stupid and looking at things with rose tinted glasses or should I sell one of the best Jazz basses around and chase the dream?
11. Sorry Rich, wish I had a decent Precision to how into the hat.
12. Bit cheaper here - depending on the shipping charge. http://www.axesrus.com/AxeBassMachine.html
13.
Sex on Fire. I hate the song, but the audience seem to love it.
Did a WMC in Sheffield last year with my 60's/70's covers band. At the end of the night the concert sec came up whinging that we should've played Sex on Fire......got a blank look when I asked if that was an obscure Small Faces number.
14. Awwww, Rich, you're killing me,
15. Looking good there Nick.
16. The pickups aren't as bad as you'd think on the Affinity, but you're right a nice Wizard Thumper would do well. I put some Wilkinson tuners on my replacement neck, about £15 new as I remember. Easily as good as the ones on MIM Fenders.
17.
Aha! You didn't say "No" though, did you? There's no stopping me now I have this photo-bucket business sorted out! I can see why people have problems with it, but it's quite easy once you've done it a few times. I had the same problem with making ringtones for my iPhone, but I do it without thinking about now, even after the crafty gits at Apple interfered.
No I didn't say no....I've tried a few times to acquire a great quality Stealth 2 but so far not managed it. I just find the 'monooque' Status basses so easy to play and they never need adjusting once set up. Still not sorted how to post pics on new BC - still its stopped me trading and selling too much!
18.
You could sell me Honky?
That one wouldn't be as cheap as the 30th Warren lol! Loved the photos by the way.
19. This is not good for my Status GAS. Basses come and go but my Streamline is a constant. Now what can I sell to buy a Stealth 2?
20. Dunno, but the Affinity is standard Fender fit....any licensed neck should do. The Mighty Mite in mine was very slightly thinner and shallower but no problem in fitting.
21.
+1. Mine is exactly the same as yours, you can't beat the black/black/maple combination. I'm not ashamed of the fake Fender logo though, some of us don't have money these days to throw around on £500+ basses. besides it finishes the look off, and I would never try to pass it off as the real thing if I sold it.
Ditto I'm not a Fender snob.....my first decent bass was a Squier (albeit a JV) and even though the body has some dinks I dont think it would fool anybody lol. I use mine against my CAR US Jazz 75RI - there aint £1000+ difference between em.
22. Nearly finished my Affinity upgrade. Black white black pg courtesy of Bass Doc.....makes a massive difference to the look. Mighty Mite Maple board neck with 70s logo (I know, I know) with 70s Wilkinson Tuners. Looking quite Roger Waters now but still thinking about a period neck plate and bridge cover. The Squier pups will probably have to go at some point but where do you stop...... Definitely punch above their weight these Affinitys Maarten.
23. Stunning bass Geert, That's the second 1976 Jazz thru this forum in as many weeks. I'll just have to content myself with a 2002 special run 'copy' for the time being. Bump.
24. This is not helping HJ
25. Oh this is cruel..........no trades "weep"............a very special Jazz?
