1. Hmmmm mm mm.............silver Streamline
2. Thanks for everyone who has expressed interest in this (and it suprised me how much interest there has been in these times of austerity!), however for the moment it is withdraw while I consider other options which involve me not having to part with the best Ray it's been my pleaseure to own.
3. Joe just received my Ray5 fretless, great guy to deal with. Hope the 5er gets more love at your house mate.
4. And replied
5. I've tried to part with this twice before and failed - so here's going for the third... A problem with my Passat (running over steel scrap - a perennial problem if you work at a steel plant, and the bloody service computer deciding it needs a service about 3 months before I thought it would) has left my liquid cash a little depleted. I've options to deal with it, but in the interests of looking at all options I've got to consider letting my Ray 30th go (again). I love this bass to bits, I've really bonded with it over the year that I've had it, its quite possibly the best Ray (without getting into the pre-eb/eb argument) I've ever played/owned. However, it's in excellent 'collector's' condition and as such it rarely leaves the house, in fact it's done 2 jam nights and 2 practices in my ownership. If you're reading this you know the ante, it's a mahogany bodied 30th anniversary ray with through body stringing, highly figured red laquered maple neck with rosewood board. Think of it as a Classic Ray + except they made 783 and won't be making any more. As I've said, I don't want to part with this and other options will be explored so it may be withdrawn soon (cf. CHRISDABASS and his Big Al), so in terms of business; I'd prefer a partial trade (I still need a good quality 4 string fretted backup) with cash my way. I'll consider excellent condition US Fender Standard Precisions or Jazzes (a 2008 on model preferably) or a standard Ray 4H. For trade purposes I'm valueing the 30th at no less than £1100 - no negotiation on this one I think that's fair. The bass comes with the original C & G special edition case which I don't consider suitable for shipping (problems were experienced with these by MM when they were originally shipped - I wont tempt fate), so collection or meet up only for this one.
6.
WD Music have a good selection
Yup, I got my black White black for about £20 from WD. Have you got the blue one back B?
7. These look so much better with paint on! Would have been well tempted by this but got a Ray fretless due in tomorrow. Have a bump.
8. +1 on sending Warickhunt a pm..........remember to give him the weight of the bass also
9. Hate to say it but I think prices on MM are a bit better on the bay at the moment - if you dont mind the hassle. I'd estimate maybe £100 better on average for a standard MM (based on watching a few recently) so maybe a bit better on a special. Having said that I didn't take my own advice on the Ray5 I just sold - but I hate paypal and selling on the bay....
10.
I tried a Wal Custom in the 80s... it was horrible. Lifeless, flat and with no bottom end to speak of, no matter what you did with the controls. A couple of years later I had a play with a another example and it was just magnificent. Just goes to show.
Same thing happened to me, major Mick Karn fan, found a Wal in Carlsbro in Sheffield in the mid 90s. It was in good condition and, I kid you not, less than £400. Picked it up played it, wanted to love it but, to me it was a dog.....I wuz gutted. I'd love to try another tho.
11. I've had 4 goes at 5 string, my last one sold at the weekend. I have no problem with the SR5 neck, in fact I loved it, I came to the conclusion that my problem was swapping back and forward between 4 and 5's. I'd be playing fine on a 5 at a jam/gig and then relax a little too much (as I can/do on a 4) and suddenly start hitting the wrong strings! If I didn't enjoy playing 4s so much I would have made the transition but that wasn't the case so.....no more 5s for me.
12. Dont think I've ever trawled back through posts to get an idea of 'last price'. I think there's too much variance for that. However I do agree that it can affect forward pricing....the recent price trends on MM's and Warwicks have demonstrated that IMHO. I'm guilty of deleting posts from my own for sale threads but that's primarily to weed out endless 'bumps' on long threads.
13. Did a set up on my SR5 fretless a month ago, great job and very reasonable.
14. Is this one they made up in their workshop.......whoops, did I say that out loud?
15. This bass is now SOLD
16. For function work Chris I find my Status Streamline spot on. Precision width neck and plenty of grit but not too glassy from the 2 band pre. Not everyones cup of tea looks wise so go for the Ray 3eq.
17. Hi Jim, the 30th still spends more time in its case than out of it, but it's such a lovely thing that I just can't find it in me to part with it....or should I say nothing has given me sufficient GAS to consider selling it over the last 6 months or so. That HH looks the mutts, wish I had room for one.
18.
It's very tempting but I already have a fretless 4 'ray & I suspect Mrs Macko would prefer we "invested" in some decking.
Know what you're saying M, I know that if this sells I'll have to spend the money quick or it will turn into light fittings for the living room! However, when buying basses I still sometimes try the 'that one new? no, had it for ages, you must be confusing it with.....'
19. Some interest shown but still here as we speak. I think EBay beckons for the weekend once I've got the Sheffield/Rotherham Magna Real Ale Fest out of the way. Torn between using the Status and the Sue Ryder 'Sonic Sue' special for that one!
20.
trade offers??
If my SR5 had some frets Jim I'd happily trade you. Having traded basses with Jim in the past all I can say is that he's a pleasure to deal with and if he says his bass is mint it's 'beyond mint'. Amazed this hasn't gone yet. Seem to be saying that a lot lately, therefore what do i know
21.
If I didn't have a big al coming I would have this in a shot, even with out frets. Good luck with the sale anyways.
Cheers PB, you'll have to let me know when you're up in the Sheffield area on a gig, I'd love to see the Big Al in action when you get it!
22. Dave, this was relisted in a separate thread as this one had got a bit confusing and drawn out. Yes it's still available at £600 plus p&p
23.
Why is this so cheap???? I'm astonished, truely. If it is 9.5 / 10 why is it still here!!!?? I'd have it if it was fretted, me and fretless do not go well. I'm keeping an eye on this!
Surprised myself to be honest PB. At £600 I'm taking a fair hit and I thought I'd got a good deal on it. Since I got it it's had a set up by Jon Shuker and a new WD scratch plate. Anyway in answer to your questions: 1. It is 9.5/10, the pictures are a good representation. 2. I'm assuming the Market for fretless 5 string is specialised and therefore low demand. I guess if it had frets it would be more like £750 in this condition. Unfortunately if I had it fretted I would be ruining a perfectly good Ray
