1. Lovely Bass Chris and I'd love to replace my old SR5 but I'm a couple hundred light, Good luck with the sale tho.
2.
Yes, yes, I know - I'm not fond of them myself! But, when it makes the difference between being able to play a bass, and not - it's time to just get on with it. I wish I could master the floating thumb technique but, try as I might, I can't.
I know where you're coming from. I've never had a problem playing on the pup but I can see that it wouldn't exactly coax a warm sound out of a fretless. Never been good at floating thumb either. btw I think the Ray 20th anni F'less went for about £830ish in the end (not to me tho) - strange it failed to sell at £800 the first time around.
3. Good decision. But................thumbrest:rolleyes:
4. Is this the tiger stripe ebony? I've seen some with striations in the TS type but not one that looks as 'unique' as this. If you don't like it send it back, on buying a new bass in my view cosmetics are a valid reason for rejection.
5. Don't know how much 'sonic' or playability differences there are between the Fender TF and the std American Jazz. ET had my old Jazz frettless (1999) and swapped it out in favour of the TF so I'd expect it's a reasonable upgrade. I've played both lined and unlined and personally don't think it makes much difference (as long as the side dots are on the fret) - it only makes a difference if you want to make a statement to the audience that you're playing a fretless. I was more than happy with the sound of the Jazz, nice and woody and with much more mwah and subtlety than the Status necked Jazz (and previously Westone T3) that it replaced. Only problem I seem to have a the minute is picking up another used one at my budget of £600. Tsk
6.
Here we go again... I just whacked the headstock off the corner of a wall in a door way. Looked at the poor thing and saw some horrible white marks which I could only assume were paint chips down to the wood... except they wiped off... turns out I've taken a good chunk out of the wall and once again the bass has come away from the battle unharmed and completely unblemished. Thank f*ck! All hail German build quality.
Maybe you should buy a Status (headless obviously)
7.
There is one for sale on the bay at the moment. Nobody bid for it last week ,so it's been relisted. I thhink it's £600.00 min bid -£800.00 buy it now . Seems about right
Cheer guys, that's the one I was looking at.
8.
I think Schnozzalee has one and might be interested in selling it...... BB
Might bite his hand off it it wass a fretless
9. Just a quickie. I've always had a little hankering for one of these. Anyone know what a reasonable price for a vgc used one would be?
10. Also on the balance re-dressing side.... Had a DJ5 and a Bobby G (albeit the BG was modded) Skylines. Both I would describe as well made and functional. The sound out of the DJ5 in particular was particularly good. On the negative I would say that they didn't 'inspire' and both were 'heavy' (particularly the BG - close to 10lb). Out of the Skyline bunch I'd have to go for the JO4 - played a couple of nice 'light' examples in Electro. On the Fender side, can't say I've played a bad S1 or new US standard bass - all were about the 8.5 lb mark and made the sounds they were supposed to make. Price wise on here it also looks that on average you can pick up a used US S1 a bit cheaper than a used DJ4/JO4/BG.
11.
Hello Mart, I was actually wondering if it could be tigerstripe ebony, I know that's Wick standard for fretless at the moment but i've seen some new ones with wenge too. I reckon you might be right actually, there was no info on the Thomann site. Certainly sounds more like ebony. There are some numbers we do that are more jazzy or sensitive, so I'll probably switch to passive for those, but there are some others that require vast amounts of distortion and echo, so active for those, as well as the dance and poppier songs. Have to admit, I'll miss the sheer tone of the Kopo, so responsive to the fingers. Can't possibly justify keeping her though, got to pay Mrs silddx back for the Wick Cheers, Nigel
Cheers Nigel, I'm still tempted by the Green passive fretless Vette on sale - that's why I'm asking. By the way, the Kopo is gorgeous - but about £150 more than I have in the Fretless budget. Having said that, a fretless of that quality would be wasted on me
12. Silddx, I thought the Wawick Fretlesses were ebony - have they changed over to wenge? Do you find you need the active for Fretless, on my old active (fretted) vette I tended to keep it passive, Mart
13.
If you click on the Streamline pic on the front page of the Status site you'll find lots of images of both models so you can see the differences.
My eyesight must be sh1t BB, the only difference I can make out is the extra knob on the new one verses the 3 on mine (Streamline #6)
14.
If someone would buy my Sterling I'd probably still be interested in buying this!
Yup I'd probably go the same way but last time I tried selling my Ray quickly (to buy this very same bass off Marcus last year) it was a bloody nightmare
15.
Hey Mart Nah, I don't like the new "hard edged" model. Sticking with what I've got for the time being...
Yer What............you mean they've made the Streamline less, huh, streamlined? Pity, I quite like the 'half-sucked' boiled sweetness of the mark 1.
16. Like this one mself but I think I'm a bit far back in the queue.....
17.
Yo Brother Smithe! Yes, indeed - It's the one I'd be most interested in putting an order for. BB - Don't be put off ordering your Streamline. They're a fantastic bass & I definitely wouldn't be without mine! I use mine all the time these days
Does that mean you could be selling some of the 'woodwork' Rich to make way for a nice Streamline 5?
18.
Hmm, think I upset some Status-lovers. I meant to be nice about the seller's instrument, I quite like it in a nostalgic sort-of way, although I'm not a potential customer. But I still think people who buy things like the Streamline are off their heads. That's maybe the ugliest bass I've ever seen.
The looks - they do polarise people. I must be off my head but after an hour playing one I had to buy one. Your comment is only an opinion and obviously an ill informed and poorly researched one, Boomshanka, Mart. By the way - love the S2 - wish I had the cash for this 'proper' Status.
19.
My Stingray has the best B string ive ever played..way better than my old Sadowsky..IMO Its a very focused instrument...depending on strings of course..
Stop teasing me like that Andrew......I still regret selling this one Still, my neckdoesn't hurt as much on long gigs with the Status.
20. The only comment I can make is to be sure to try out a lakky 5 first. I found the neck width and 35" scale a bit much. In comparison the tighter string spacing and slimmer neck on the Ray 5 were much more comfortable for me.
21. Played a couple of these - both were on the fret. YMMV....
22. Almost worth splurging that as a project........less than 20 miles from me too, hmmmm.
23. Yup, an early 90's with a nice bit of figuring in the neck, with the 'mute' bridge and in good nick I'd go at £700ish maybe a touch more if black/maple. A later one like mine (2005) tend to be more 600ish.
24. Damn, I was tempted to make a punt for this but my previous experience with 35" didn't work out. I know it would end in tears. Lovely bass tho......
