1. Glad to hear it's still going well with the Sterling Ed. Tell the band this is the Sterling's 'more polite' cousin and use it on the 'softer' numbers
 2.
You mean that as all the paint will drop off in a couple of weeks anyway, it doesn't really matter?
You've had a Highway 1 then?
 3.
If only it were that straightforward...i have a P that i tried a Badass on and compared to the Fender bridge it sounded sh*te. I do have Badass bridges on my Jazz basses though...but i'm gonna try one of them out with the Fender bridge to see how it compares. If a bass already has good sustain...and lets face it sustain is only one part of the equation...putting Badass on it may change it for the worse, ie too much sustain.
+1 Let's be sensible, the old bent piece of tin design was perfectly acceptable for a few decades. Would you take it off a '62 Jazz? If you want improved engineering etc buy something else - probably won't sound like a Fender tho.
 4.
perhaps you didnt enjoy the full student experience
Yup...loved it. Back in the days of full grant and no course fees - Joy. As I recall tho, the down side was 35-40 hours per week of lectures/practicals and no modules (i.e. 80%+ of your degree went on the 3rd year final exams).
 5.
Is it neck on body (wood to wood) and then the 4 screws and plate. No other washers, bolts, pins etc... If have never done this before and I dont really want to take of a neck of one of my jazz's just to satisfy my curiosity. Im fitting a jazz neck to a p body if anyone has anything else to add. cheers.
Just be careful getting the neck out of the pocket - don't want to chip the paint. Then again it's a Fender - you should be fine
 6.
Most of that extra weight is the two 5-string MFDs.
Guess you're right Dave, they sound pretty heavy Having said that 10lb for a 5 string 'fender' shape aint too bad and the balance being as good as it is seems to make this ok (unlike my old Thumb bass which, despite being 8.5 lbs, killed my shoulder). It's going out for it's first 'extended' session tonight so we'll see how we go on but as it's unlikely to ever be my main gigging bass (I can find all the notes I need on a 4 for the band's set) I'm quite happy to use it sat down if necessary! These G&L things are a bit of a 'unsung hero' sort of bass, I'd prefer to keep hold of this one. More trips to the Gym may be necessary.........
 7.
I honestly wouldn't mind - but such beasts seem *rare*. I'm a bit iffy with the neck on Warwicks, which seems to put paid to that in the "real world"!
If you like wide and flat go Lakland. I didn't - so that's why I'm on the L2500. Of the 2 you mention the SR5 neck is a bit more comfortable (slightly thicker on the L2500 - but apparently new 2008/9 US models are a bit flatter?) initially but, light blue touch paper and retire, the L2500 is the better bass
 8.
Anybody have any comments regarding the difference in feel between maple/RW? I've only ever had dark wood boards on my basses and am curious about the difference (if any) a maple neck might make.
Think this old chesnut's been battered about a fair bit. IMHO strings make a lot more difference than the board wood. I think it takes ideal conditions and a highly trained ear to determine differences between same model basses maple/RWood, same strings etc in a dark room! (guess I've never experienced either - cos I can't) Main difference I think is the 'feel'. FWIW I personally just prefer Rosewood, but it shows how much it really matters to me as 2 out of 3 of mine are maple
 9.
I've never played a 3eq Ray that I could make a sound I liked on.
I'd maybe agree with you sat in a shop at low vols. But for some reason it comes alive in a gig (especially through Mark Bass Rich!). In a gig I just use the mid to tweak - it's easier than farting about with the VLE/VLF thing At home I usually find the Ray far too sharp for my ears with D'Addario's and reach for the GnL or P bass.
 10. Nice one Nig, wish my 5er was a pound (and a half) lighter. But, musn't grumble What options/features did you take with it?
 11.
The question here really is whether an extra mid control is worth £150!! Possibly not? As Hamster states, you will probably be putting it through a graphic or other tone controls anyway! For what its worth, the secondhand values of Stingrays don't appear to be greatly affected by the 2/3 tone control options, so maybe thats the route to go down? Its a great time to buy at the moment too,so good luck.
Wot he said. You should get a good one either 2 or 3 eq for £550-600.
 12. Damn. I've been here before with this one Al. If only it hadn't taken me so long to find the L2500...
 13. Had both. Had a 2 eq for 16 years - sold it. Perfectly acceptable sound. Now have a 3eq - don't really touch the mid much. Sounds just as good as the 2eq to my ears.
 14.
I thought you got kicked off mentioning Simply Red songs!!!!
Sorry, only just seen it in the T & C's
 15. Damn it could do with this....currently need something with a little more oomph than my LM250. Too close to Xmas and money's too tight to mention.
 16.
But have you got Lakland GAS?
If I could find a nice light one (around 8.5lbs - JO4 or DD) then maybe I could be persuaded away from my MIA P or Ray4
 17.
A few months ago, and maybe in a few months time I would be on this like a shot. Beautiful with the black pickguard.
Ditto Dave, but I really can't justify 2 precisions
 18. Very nice Dave, well worth the wait. Thought I'd got rid of any Lakland GAS.
 19. I started to suffer quite badly from the middle of this year - as it's in just the one ear I think it was infection related but who knows. I can live with the tinnitus but the 'crosstalk' really p1sses me off. BB - Elacin ER20's can be had for less than a tenner, you hardly notice them and it cuts post gig ringing down to negligable - YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE!
 20.
MB1. ?????????Gary Glitter???????????
If I ever get one of your comments MB1 I'll start to worry....... ...............just got it....crap
 21. I had a Corvette standard active a couple of years back (ash) and TBH it had plenty of growl in passive mode. I rarely used it active as the sound got a bit too harsh - I mainly used it for a bit of vol gain on some songs in the set
 22.
the newer musicman's (musicmen?) have the waxy kinda finish to them, which i aint that keen on as i find it makes the neck kinda sticky. i think you'd be lookin at late eighties/early nineties for a gloss finished neck?
The late 80's/early 90's necks weren't gloss finished IIRC. Mine was satin finished but after about 10 years wear it was pretty glossy. The finish was very similar to the headstock lacquer on the current basses.
 23. I would've thought that US instruments would be on the 'up' again now that the £/$ is in the toilet? Glad I hung on to my Ray instead of letting it go for a daft price.........would still like a Modulus tho
