Cheers Dave, I’ll check that out. To be fair this is only the 3rd time I’ve had issues in about 200 gigs. It seems only to be a problem at ‘younger’ places where there are about a million mobile devices operating. Still a pain when it happens and gives you an attack of the ‘Norman Collier’ variety (showing me age there).

A club gig just outside of Pontefract for the Glam band last night. Two of our compliment of four were struggling with some sort of flu bug but soldiered on like troopers propped up by our mobile (legal) pharmacy. Despite this we performed ok save a small blip due to brain fog on one of the afflicted’s part (we covered it well!) and we had the punters dancing from the first number. One thing of note was the failure of my smooth hound wireless set up leading me to hard wire for the second spot. There was so much mobile activity in the venue (I guess) that all the red lights were on and my set up couldn’t maintain a connection.

I don’t disagree entirely but the price difference is likely to be significant. The bones of the two generations are essentially the same and I don’t think the differences equate to the price differential. In my case the ME is mainly a ‘bedroom’ bass, if I was looking at a £1k gigging bass I’d be looking elsewhere than a Chinese ME.

Great video Cat!

To be honest, as the differences to the original Chinese ME ain’t huge, if you can live with the headstock decal (the band I play in have never heard of Sadowsky anyhow so they assume it’s a cheap Fender clone) then saving a huge wad of cash on a used generation 1 makes sense. My used gen 1 fretless with an East pre came in at less than half the new price of one of these.

I was talking with the guys in the band about your gig at Sheffield City Hall last night and saying what a great venue it was for a bands of your talent. The drummer piped up with, ‘Ive done the city hall……changed out some of the stage flooring for em a few years back’ 🤣🤣🤣

Getting back on the horse during recovery from a bit of surgery at the end of June, so a nice local gig just outside Sheffield to get me back into it. The place was distinctly quiet when we were setting up and the landlord was indicating that it was hit or miss for crowd numbers at this time of year. Thankfully the place filled up nicely and we played 2 spots to a packed room. I refrained from Foxton style moves though 🤣. The punters enjoyed the show so hopefully we’ll see a return in the new year.

Not in my case, to be honest I think it takes away the Mustangness if it's replaced with the standard Fender BBOT. -

I think he still swaps about a bit, last bit o telly I saw him on recently he was on the blue JMJ. -
My preferred genre is post punk/new wave but found myself depping in a Glam Rock band as my then band wasn't particularly active. 7 years on I'm still enjoying playing in a Glam rock band. Never look a gift horse...... In terms of the OP's question though....yes. I've never been one to do the busman's holiday thing, I'm much happier up on stage than watching.

More than 250 gigs on this little Indonesian Squier. It’s definitely standing the test of time.

At £400 the old model is a pretty good deal, a little fettle and you’ve got a pretty good bass.

After last weeks hot and sticky festival gig this week it was a hot and sticky gig in a small pub for a birthday celebration. A small but appreciative crowd and an altogether enjoyable evening. I wasn’t on my best game for some reason - a bit of hand cramp in the second set due to dehydration I suspect (and the drummer being enthusiastically fast…). That’s it for a few weeks while I have some ongoing medical treatment, missing it already 😞

We all have em mate, sure the next one will be a blast!

Nice one Daryl!

Farmyard rally last Friday. First time I’d used the JMJ Mustang on one of these bigger jobbies but I was well chuffed with the sound. https://www.facebook.com/molly.moo.1044186/videos/1611224812700875/?

The awesome Farmyard rally in Helmsley yesterday. First on the evening bill as we know how to get a party started. Only 10 in the marquee just before we came on but a good couple hundred as we came on and double that before the end of the set. It was hotter than hell in there - the big hair didn’t help! Being on early did have the bonus of being able to catch some of the other bands, Women in Rock were particularly awesome. Will post some pics as they come in…..in the meantime here’s the Mustang brothers.

For bass players - who preffer to sing back vocals ?
martthebass replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Pretty essential to do BVs in the band I'm in, all four of us chip in to give full harmonies where we can. When I first started doing BVs a few decades back I hated it and it really detracted from my bass playing but now I'm generally ok though some numbers still fox me and I step back where I know it'll throw me out. I have done the odd song as lead vox but I find I'm only ok on certain songs where it meshes ok with the bass even after years at it. -
I think a fair few were wasted Daryl but only one was an uncoordinated Richard.

How many basses do you take on stage?
martthebass replied to Mickeyboro's topic in General Discussion
I haven’t broken a string ever. Doesn’t mean I can’t or won’t though. -
We always go with the singer, that way the mistake is less obvious to the punters. Analysis comes later to see how not to repeat if it wasn't just a standard brain fart.

I’d be inclined to try before buying if you can re: neck dive. I’ve had a few, the worst one I had was a MIJ early 2000s. Of my current 2, the Mikey Way sig has no neck dive due to thin neck and heavyish basswood body. My JMJ has a little as it’s a thicker neck but it’s very minor and unnoticeable with a 3” strap. -
A hot and sweaty one in a small pub on the outskirts of Huddersfield last night. A bit of an education in logistics after the last few weeks of reasonable stages but we cracked on regardless. Had the obligatory drunken bloke crash through my set up in slow motion in the second spot, no damage to my mouth thankfully, the only casualty being my mic stand which was a bit lop sided for the rest of the gig. Only pics were from behind the band which appeared to mainly feature my backside. Onwards and upwards, next week is the Farmyard bikers rally in Helmsley North Yorkshire, always a cracking gig.
