1. Nick - what about the Shuker P5? Hope he hasn't routed it yet - need room for 2 pickips now....
2. Hope that works out for you Nick. I played a Charity gig with the DJ5 last night - had to go straight into the desk, hardly heard a bloody note all night. Could have sworn on a few occasions I was on the 'wrong' string - nobody seemed to notice. Is that a reflection on my playing or does no one listen to the bass
3.
PM'd
Backatchya
4. That is a really nice bass at a fantastic price. If it was a 4 I would snap your hand off.
5. Some interesting offers but still looking. Weekend (nearly, sort of Friday feeling) bump
6.
Would you sell it outright? How much for? Just interested.....
Sorry mate, daren't have the cash. As the song goes I'd just blow it on 'Liquor and Drugs'. Just Joking Mods - more likely a new tax disc and nearly a full tank of Diesel for the Wife's 4X4 Oh and..........all PM's replied to.
7. Cheers Rich. This really is a toughy and I could still easily bail and let this become a 'bedroom bass' as I really don't need a 5er for the work I do. The only reason I got a 5 was so I wasn't embarrassed when I turn up at a jam night when there's only a 5 available. It's the 'prettiest, bass I think I've owned and got a killer tone. I think the 35" really contributes to that but also contributes to my hand strain.
8. Well nearly a month as gone by and this still ain't getting used so.... Well, I've had this about 3 months and still not feeling the love. Maybe the 35", maybe the wide string spacing, maybe the extra string - dunno, just not getting it. It's a Maple neck black sparkle 2007 build, in about as perfect a condition as it gets (only been out of the house twice and never gigged). The pictures show a white/black/white pg, this has been swapped out with a black/white/black which looks much better to my eyes but the original would be included. Build is stock with (I believe) Lakland OEM Pups - original electronics - no mods. HSC courtesy of Gator - also without a mark. Reduced final price - £750 w/o case, £780 with: Collected only Thanks for looking, Mart
9. Cheers OBBM, any comments on the sound anyone?
10. Very nice Rich. That should keep the GAS at bay for at least <insert number here> minutes, hours, days, weeks, months (delete as applicable)
11. Well, when I bought my DJ5 it was advertised as coming with Aero pups. According to the 'wise' on TB, these were changed to Lakland OEM recently. Mine is a 2007 build according to the serial, anyone know which pups it's likely to have (there are no distinguishing marks on the covers). That's the anal bit done with - on a more objective side, anyone know the sonic differences between the two types, one better than the other etc? I recall a guy on TB saying that the Aeros in the DJ5 were pants in comparison with the DJ4 aeros, who knows? Personally, I've no issue, they sound fine to me - not felt the need to JRetro or Audere, guess I'm not too fussy, just curious, Cheers, Mart
12.
The only slightly annoying thing was that on a couple of occasions guitarists who turned up then filled in as bass players. I have no qualms about this if it wasn't for the fact I actually knew the songs they were being very approximate with and even out of practice could have made a better job of (and I'm not a hot player by any shakes) but I was hanging around like a spare part. It's all about *who* you know at these things. At least I got to play 3 songs after a 3 hour wait.
I thought everyone knew that Guitarists can play any bassline better, faster, stronger than any bassist
13.
My first bass was a 5 string, then my current is only a 4. I miss the 5. I'm not the biggest fan of having to downtune, and I like the extra range at the bottom.
2nd hand Warwick Corvette $$5 if you can stretch to it - if not Corvette active 5 (ash). Play one first tho, if you find the P neck a stretch the Warwick neck might not be for you (it aint a Jazz). Another option - Spector?
14.
As much as I like Passive basses, it's just not working for me anymore.
Don't do anything too hasty Nick. A local bassist mate of mine (in his forties like me but more hearing loss) was suffering the same sort of thing, hard rock/Lizzy type band - so P bass a must They've swapped out the backline and all go through pods and good quality monitors - all forward sound through the 'uprated' PA (inc. drums). I had a chance to play through the set up last year, the stage sound was much quieter but everything was audible and well mixed and pretty much represented what was out front. Is this an option?
15. Rio - Duran Duran....................................sorry.
16. Seem expensive - Nearly £1200 for a DJ5?! Could get a decent 5 stringer for that
17. Nick, I find the same thing - think it's a venue and band overall loudness thing tho. At jams I tend to take the Thumb because I can dial in more treble and hear meself above the cymbals which seem to want to become part of my head. At less 'muddy' venues I find the P just fine. The audience tho always love the sound of the P so it must project well.
18.
Anywho as I went to put the bass back on the rack I cracked it against the corner of a Markbass cab and left a dent in it, guy in the shop was not impressed, I put the first ding in what presumably became someone else's bass.
Was that Dave the useless? Never mind......................
19. pm replied to Nick, if you need any pics let me know, Cheers, Mart
20. They are seriously crap (if the one with my precision is anything to go by). Do yourself a favour and spend £50 on a decent Gator case.....
21. My 2004 MIA P bass neck has an easier profile to my hands than my old 1990 'Ray. Maybe there's some variation? I would've thought you'd have no problem being a Stingray man.
22.
Great bass, great sound. So versatile.Selling mine due to a bad back though
Yup, swamp ash ain't as light as you'd think sometimes
23.
I think everyone is just skint :-(
Too true....maybe we ought to just have a big 'swap-out'. There seems to be a lot of us looking to trade but not a lot of us with any cash
24. Jim, I expect this to come into work one day so I can play a cak handed riff on it. No better scrub that, then I'll want one. Thumb bass, DJ5 and MIA Precision anyone?
