1.
Try a lighter bass for a while. I didn't really notice how heavy my Ray was until I started playing other basses. Now I pick it up and it feels like it weighs a ton.
Ditto I moved from a Stingray to a Sterling, didn't help the shoulder ache on long gigs as much as I thought it would. The comfort strap is a good idea - also strapping it higher up (if you're the type who wears it on your hips) can help. In the end I cured the problem by buying a MIA precision which was about 1.5 pounds lighter.
2. Couple of months since I bought his newer Precision - great guy to deal with.
3. Congrats on the sale OHM - looks like MM's are back in style.
4.
Good news Mart. Does that mean you're going Status shopping???
Oh yes, I'm hoping my GAS will be sorted for a while. Then again once you've picked up your Bob Glaub (Holdness? Monkhouse?) I'm sure you'll set it off again. Then again I think it would have to be pretty special to out 'P' your '75!
5. This bass has now gone to fellow bass chatter and Elliot Minor bassist - Ed. Hope he has many hours of fun with this bass and I look forward to seeing it sprawled across the front cover of Kerrang (and supporting Linkin Park). Cheers for all those that showed an interest and glad that the bass could stay within the 'community', Mart
6.
'kin 'ell Martin, tempted to have a look at her.
Yo, J. Thought you had a car to sort out Yup parting with this one won't be easy but the craving for carbon just won't go away.
7. Hi Mark, sorry mate, at the mo I'm looking at cash because of a serious case of Status related GAS... I'm giving meself about another week to sell this, if it doesn't go nevermind I'll just have to make a concerted effort to use it more often. Daft as it sounds one of the main reasons it doesn't get used is because it is mint and most of the places I play, well, aren't! Cheers, Mart

9. Now offered at the remarkably low price of £650....
10. 'Saturday night and bored because I don't have a gig' bump. Did I mention that it was 'as new' and black.........the brain isn't what it used to be, must be all that cheap meat I ate as a student in the Eighties. Anyone who wants to try it out will be rewarded with a cup of Yorkshire tea using Yorkshire water......it's a taste sensation (works best with 3 sugars) - honest.
11. Try Cif (or Jif as it used to be called). I'd thin it down to 50% with water and don't rub too heavily or it will shine the surface of the case but you should be able to match it in (try it on a little area first). I've used this combo in the past on black plastic car bumpers with paint overspray with good results.
12. Glad you've found a new (old) P that you like OHM. Your old one is so good that I've decided to try and sell my Sterling to fund a Status rather than the P cos I'm not sure I'd pick up another P in the future that's as nice (especially the neck - I actually prefer it to any Jazz I've ever played). How does it sound and play compared to your old (new) 2004?
13. Have another bump OHM, us Musicman sellers have got to stick together!
14. Back to the top.................. I'm open to offers, if they're daft I can only say no
15.
I dont really like p basses. i dont like the sound or the look at all i. dont no i just dont get it i guess
Isn't a Stingray just a 'super P' with a silly scratch plate
16.
gosh that's lovely...wish my MOT, tax and insurance hadn't just cost me £850
Thanks, know the feeling - Mrs MTB drives a Landrover!
17. Well 2 months have gone by and this bass hass been out of it's box only a handful of times. So as they say 'use it or lose it'. I've decided to put this up for straight sale as I'm interested in another bass on BC. As said above this bass is completely mint, in better nick than ones hung in the shop so I'm thinking to kick off offers around £690...........fair? Based on what I paid for it last year it works out that I've lost nearly £150 per gig!
18.
One bass line that always made me want to play 'air' bass was 'Same Old Scene' by Roxy Music or 'Peaches' by The Stranglers or Anything by Japan.
I've been trying to play Karn's basslines for years, I've come to conclusion all I need is a Wal Fretless and some talent.
19. I sold one of these and bought the green carpet 150 GP7SM. Your 130 is better! Don't confuse TE 130 watts with some of the 150W weedmeisters that are knocking around (cough - Ashdown).
20.
+1 completely It took me thirty years to get the point of the Fender P. Like Chris, I’d always considered them strictly a one-trick pony – thuddy, old-school, blues-rock. Especially as a mainly fretless player, you really need that bridge pick-up to add a bit of bite to your “mwah” - at least as an option - but I’ve never liked fretless Jazzes that much. Anyway, last winter I joined a ‘60’s rock/R&B band as a side-project to the main covers band, and fancied a “retro” bass purely – I’m ashamed to say – for image. As the two guitarists have red Strats I was kind of looking for a red MIJ P-bass, briefly considered the Sting signature, then saw Walbassists’ ’73 sunburst P-bass on Basschat this summer. Heavily modded – converted to fretless with ebony board, narrowed neck, added J p/u at the bridge, re-wired with SD vintage/antiquity II replacement p/u’s. Ruined as a vintage bass of course, but it could have been custom built for me. Well, plugged through a Trace valve head it was the tone I’d been looking for all my life, and with the neck mods and pro setup played like a dream. Yes, my active MM Sabre does a pretty good imitation of a P on neck p/u, but no bass I’ve tried gives that plummy, harmonic-rich, sock-in-the-gut sound of a P-bass. The addition of a J bridge pick-up is a revelation, makes it so much more versatile, and whilst string choice and a good set-up is crucial for any bass, for a P-bass I’d say it’s critical. And if it’s good enough for Pino, it’s good enough for me!
+1 again. I picked up a MIA P from this site a couple of months ago after being Precision free for 20 years. When I first played it it sounded like my Sterling with all the tone rolled off and 30 year old strings. However, you grow to love it and wonder how you managed without that tone in your armory. If I wanted a P to sound like a Jazz I would sell it and buy a Jazz..simple as. Now, with the faults, 20 frets ok, but why would I want to go much above 14th on old school stuff? If I want stratospheric I take the Thumb. Punch, well the P has got punch in spades, but if I want to cause spontaneous bowel movements at 50 paces then it's the Sterling. 20 years ago I sold my '57 JV reissue (pillock) because I wanted a more edgy sound, easier top fret access, a better slap sound (even though I couldn't and still can't slap for boll****) and something that loooked a bit more modern. Now, don't get me wrong I don't think I could ever manage with a Precision as my only bass but I'm coming around to thinking that unless you're 100% slap/EMO-Goth you just gotta have one to hand.
21. I remember going to see Bad News live in Sheffield in the mid 80's.........classic
22.
She's still got it Mart...beautiful
Hope you didn't mind the use of your picci OHM. This bass just get's better and better, the Thumb and the Sterling are gatherin' dust at the mo.
23.
Tort with rw. Black(/white/black) with maple IMO. Black/white is still a classic though.
We can't all be perfect...........sniff.
