Which Luthiers Build Full Carbon Fiber Basses?
martthebass replied to binky_bass's topic in Bass Guitars
I’d agree with this, my old Status Streamline was a pretty solid thing at 7lbs which was quite a bit when you consider the diminutive size. The Alder/carbon wrap CW S2 comes in at about 8lb10oz so pro-rata about the same as full carbon. -
Which Luthiers Build Full Carbon Fiber Basses?

Status are no longer taking commissions so a new one is out. I’ve seen 6 string Stealths come up occasionally which would fit your bill, perhaps reaching out on the Wanted forum would be worth a punt? -
What is the most you'd personally pay for a new bass?
martthebass replied to lidl e's topic in Bass Guitars
To be honest, the 3 basses i gig are also the cheapest I have. The number 1, a Mikey Way sig Mustang was a budget bass. -

The most I’ve spent on a new bass is just shy of £3600, I’d come into a little money and decided it was my last chance to acquire the Status bass I’d been lusting after. Going forward, on gigging basses, I’ll top out around the £1500 mark.- 198 replies

Ticket job at a fairly local venue for us. Not done this one before so hopefully it’ll be ok. I always find NYE difficult to call as a gig, especially in recent years where I think the tendency to stay in has risen somewhat.

This thread must be close to the record in terms of how off-piste it has travelled....

This is something I've struggled with over the years. I generally use the movable anchor point but always felt bad as I saw a number of tutorials that said this was bad technique and that you should use floating thumb or anchor above the E. Nowadays I find it depends on the bass and what I'm doing. If I'm on a Mustang and playing fairly relaxed I'm on floating thumb, BUT, if I'm really digging in I find I unconsciously go back to movable anchor. On a bass with 18-19mm spacing I tend to be movable anchor whatever.

Not the easiest to sing and play - not exactly root-5th.

I think you’re right, the OMG setting does sound good in some settings, I use it like a ‘boost’ on gigs when I need some added oompf. I like the look of the Tbird type pickup though, do you have a link? -
Nah but it has plenty of references to Rudolph, Santa...etc.

It was Rich, we wasn't too sure how it would go down (you know how punters can be with stuff they haven't heard before) but it was well received.

Not sure Chris, I think the Fallout is essentially an L1000 in different clothing. I don't usually use it in single coil config (I find it a bit weedy compared to series/OMG). -
The XMas song our drummer wrote a couple of years back, Glam Fever, has been recorded by 70s band Hello. Not sure he’ll be able to retire just yet though.

Giving me some food for thought there Chris, I'm looking at modding my Mikey Way Mustang next year as it could do with a bit of a liven up. The stock humbucker is ok but I'd like something a bit hotter - more like the MFD in my G&L Fallout. I tend to use these 2 basses on gigs and I much prefer the added punch and definition of the MFD over the stock pup in the Mustang. -
Last gig in Huddersfield for this year, the rest of December are all local gigs for us in the Sheffield area. A small pub in on the outskirts of Huddersfield, was a fun gig, compact and bijou so to speak and plenty of dancing from the punters. We had a chance to do the drummers XMas song and amazingly the crowd were singing along with the chorus halfway in which he was well chuffed about.

How’s it sound Ped? -
Merry XMas Everybody and Mud's Lonely this XMas for us. We're also doing a song written by our drummer that has been recorded by 70s band Hello called Glam Christmas Fever that was released last month. Not sure how it'll go down as it hasn't had airplay on the major stations (shame as it's very catchy) but we'll enjoy it anyhow. We did do Wombling Mery XMas last year - not going back there.....

Love that Dave. I agree it'd be nice to bash through on punching 8s rather than getting my head around Jim's melodic progressions.

Do a 'punked up' version of Merry XMas Everybody Dave, you know it makes sense lol.

Gave my JMJ Mustang it's first run outdoors since I changed flats for rounds. I was unsure it was a good move based on 'headphone' playing but I was well impressed with the punch and growl I got on stage. Really does continue to surprise me how great this lil' blue monster is. -

It is, even with the mod I’m tempted. Wrong time of the year though and I don’t fancy selling/trading one of the existing herd to finance.
