Does this qualify....

Played a club on the outskirts of Chesterfield Saturday night, nice place, well run and their own light system which is always a bonus as it reduces our setup/strip down time. Club liked things a bit on the quiet side (though thankfully no db meter cutoff system) which made it a bit polite for the first half of the first set. Things warmed up however and when the dance floor filled we upped the volume a bit; by the second set we were at our normal level. Concert sec came into the change room at end of play and expressed appreciation and took our last available date for 2023. So all in all 'job's a good un'. Was home and watching Mick Ronson doc on Sky Arts with a Glenmorangie nightcap by 1:00am.

What's your 'Hey, the bass player's here' lick?

When I’m sound checking at a big gig with venue based sound guy I always go simple. Psychokiller always works for me! -
Lacquer cracking and flaking off bass

Now that's an idea. Think the wife would kill me though, I used that to get my Chris Wolstenholme sig just before Rob 'finished'. I do love the look of the 'old style' Statii though, but not enough to sell the CW.

Lacquer cracking and flaking off bass
martthebass replied to Phillip Simpkin's topic in Bass Guitars
For playability purposes I’d consider it definitely needs a refin. Personally I’d go for a vintage tint poly lacquer which would make it look fairly period correct. I had a maple neck MM refinned by Shuker a few years back with a stainless refret at very reasonable cost. -
Good to see you back out on the road Daryl

I think when I put my LM3 in to Real a few years back they said if it was the power board it'd be about £160. I guess that would be more like £200+ now. On that basis, at 50 gigs a year I tend to look at the cost of the amp at about £2/gig which seems more than reasonable - and that's a worse case if the amp is U/S at replacement. My back up Italian LM3 is still as good as when I first got it so probably still worth a few quid.
-
That's not bad. To be honest, unlike my previous old school Trace stuff I tend to look at the ICE based amps as 'consumable'. My LM3 is a 2012 Italian class AB job which I put over to back up about 3 years back. My current main is the Little Marcus which has about 3 years old and done about 130 gigs. It will get retired to back up in another couple of years if I'm still doing 50 gigs (or so) per year.

Very nice. Had a 2eq one for a good few years and stupidly sold it a couple of years back (went to Italy as I recall). It was a thing of beauty, had an insanely low action and tone for days. Sold it as it wasn't getting used anywhere near enough and I couldn't justify it sitting in a corner.

Ditto, apart from the previously noted problem that ended up being a smoothhound problem mine's been fairly bomb proof. I did hear that the CMD combos could suffer from overheating problems (due to insufficient ventilation in the design) which is why I went down the separates route with an LM top and 2 x NY121 but I don't know how much truth there is in this.
-
I used Real in Sheffield to check out my LM3 about 3 years back. Intermittent volume loss, they bench tested and ran for a few days and found no issue. Think the charge was about £40 so no biggy. To give some security I picked up a little Marcus 500 and now run the LM3 as a back up. For interest, I eventually tracked down the problem to wifi interference on my wireless set up - nowt up with the amp. Lesson learnt.

That's very nice - far too nice to let somebody else borrow lol. -
Probably would've done less damage if I'd landed on me head.

It's drive capabilities are limited but tangible.........still struggling to determine the best spot in the signal chain.

Shot from the wings of Gig at a nice club in the centre of Barton-Upon-Humber last night. This one was an uphill battle, I’m still struggling with a dog inflicted injury (tripped on said dog and fell downstairs landing on a big toe - not broken but it’s not happy) and the singist’s voice was buggered from this persistent viral jobby that’s still doing the rounds. We got through it and the audience was appreciative but it definitely felt like a double shift. Hopefully we’ll all be in better nick next week for a return to a particularly nice club in Dronfield. Rock n roll eh? Only just spotted I’d left my mid spot banana energy booster on top of my minimalist pedal set up.

Please.....not that again.

This. everyone is different. On a 4 string I find a vintage P 1.75” nut a tad too much but a modern 1.625” fine. I’m comfortable on a 1.5” but if the neck depth is too slim somehow I can’t get comfortable. in terms of ‘speed’ neck finish is important to me, a nice wax/oil finish like on an EBMM I find faster than a gloss neck if hands are sweaty. Lots of variables here with one of the biggest variables being the bassist, one mans meat is another’s tofu. On this basis this topic is bound to be subjective rather than objective and dominated by opinion rather than dimensional facts.
