  1. Sadly the 1.75" nut width kills it for me......tempted by the shell JB2 though.....must stay strong!
  2. I'd hate to turn gigging into a job, it would definitely suck the fun out of it for me. The band I'm currently in is the the most active band I've been in for years; it manages to cover all my gigging expenses and GAS and that's good enough for me.
  3. I know the feeling, the wife's kitchen 'enhancements' cost me a Rickenbacker and she now has eyes on my Status S2 CW......I feel your pain.

Mine now resides with Marleaux and I occasionally hanker after another one but I know that I'd prefer a Sterling over a Ray and they are like rocking horse poo in this finish/neck combo - don't think I've ever seen one come up for sale used.

I really do like the look of the 4 banger but I suspect that other than switching the distortion or fuzz on as a party piece I'd never use it in a gig scenario. So I guess all the extra spend would be wasted on me.....Starry Night though....
  6. Enjoyed that, not sure if I agree with all of his comments on the sound though? The JMJ to my ears had much more definition and authority; made me think about putting rounds on mine.
  7. Good result W. It's a shame the US ones are so damn expensive, I'd have one in a heartbeat if they were more like £1000-1200.
  8. Ditto, on an EBMM as it's so easy to do a quick tweak I always adjust the rod before hitting the bridge. I'm with others above, this wouldn't be acceptable on a £150 bass never mind a £600+ one. Needs to go back.
  9. That's a real surprise after hearing so many good things about these. Glad I opted for a used Fallout US now.
  10. That's what I thought and would definitely be the case for us. Looks like our decision to decline on the basis of too much of a hassle was the right call.
  11. Interesting this. For the first time in 5 years with the current band we've just been asked to do a small set of pub gigs in France. We refused on the basis of the, what we believed, higher level of bureaucracy etc. Then again, my passport lapsed over lockdown and I still haven't bothered to get a fresh one......
  12. I was surprised it got through the expletive filter 😆. 'Bugger' is a term of endearment in Yorkshire tha knoes.
  13. That's a real shame. Looking at the design it looks like some minor design/material changes could fix at least some of the corner protection issues. A more substantial plastic corner piece that was less prone to cracking on impact for example or even changing out for metal?
  14. You can just bugger off you can 😝
  15. I sold my 4003 in December, it was about 9lbs, very nice but convinced meself that I could no longer live with the sharp forearm contour. Keep hankering for a 4003S but I'm being good at the moment....
  16. This. I have 50 - 105's on both my JMJ Mustang and G&L Fallout. The JMJ is very old school whatever the neck position whereas the Fallout is far more 'modern' with plenty of harmonics that can be dialled in even in the upper register. My MW mustang is strung 40-100s EBMM Slinkies and tends to sound thuddy across the board.
  17. I hate this place.....before BC I was a successful business man with a strong financial portfolio. However my addictive bass buying has now seen me living in a tent behind a soup kitchen in Cowdenbeath. Damn you Basschat....
  18. Like you I'm not a relic fan but the finish isn't so offensive in the flesh. Also, for 'mass produced' it's pretty well executed with some nice checking details and it doesn't look like it's been dragged behind a car for a couple of miles. The neck is certainly chunkier than the CIJ or MII Jazz type profile but it's not a real struggle and if you are ok with the standard P (40mm) type you'd be ok I'd have thought. The main thing to me though is the sound, it really is the nicest sounding Mustang I've had and I've played a few - I guess this is a combination of the bespoke SD pup and the neck construction.
  19. I had one briefly in the same colour scheme. First the positives: The neck was a great J profile, very fast and easy to play, seemed to be the same profile as my MII Mustang - could have almost been the same neck except for the name on the headstock. The pups were great, very punchy and powerful, didn't find either of them weak and preferred them to the humbucker on my Mikey Way Mustang. Very lightweight, sub 8lbs - maybe closer to 7. The negatives: The body was so lightweight that it had significant neck dive; I know shorties can suffer this (my JMJ has a mild case) but it was pretty bad on this one. The wood (Agathis?)was on the soft side so I had to stabilise the strap pins with epoxy. The tuners were low quality but did the job. I let the bass go to part fund the JMJ eventually. If you decide to go for one I'd try before buying as the weight/wood quality may vary a bit and the balance may be a factor for you.
  20. Not really a slapper me (no comment) but as Fretty says I don't think either of those would fit the brief as a slap machine. Of the 3 shorties I have I wouldn't consider either of the 2 Mustangs to be great at the job but, with the right strings the G&L Fallout would have a reasonable chance as it has much hotter pups. I would have to put some higher tension strings on though to have the correct string response I feel.
  21. Forgot to post a pic of the most important honorary member of the band from the weekend. She drew more attention back stage than any of us and was a seriously laid back dude.
  22. Had 2 of the shorties out at two gigs at a bikers rally at the weekend. They performed well, a bit concerned when I found the Mustang had fallen over into the scaff posts behind me mid-gig. Amazingly not a mark on it and no effect other than the D being out as the fall must have hit the tuner. On a slightly connected note, can’t believe I saw a Mikey Way Mustang up for £900 on UK Reverb yesterday......mad.
