  1. That surprises me on the Steinies, I thought the original basses were made primarily of Bakelite, a thermoset PF resin. This is very resistant to heat until it decomposes about 500C and shouldn’t deform dimensionally until decomposition. Worked a lot in the day on PF resins for refractory applications....
  2. Cheers guys, much appreciated
  3. Thanks Dave, just the ongoing checks for my cancer treatment, hopefully I’m still in good shape.
  4. Nice sound overall and great bass tone Daryl
  5. Well the NYE gig was a bit of a surprise. Usually it can be a ‘Larry letdown’ but on this occasion it was pretty good with the crowd in good sorts and lots of dancers in both sets. It was a ticket do but there was just over 100 present and the vast majority stayed until the new year. Just one gig in January for me (on the 7th) then a bit of a break while I have biopsies and what not.
  6. It will mate, guarantee it!
  7. Great basses, now that I’ve put a set of rounds on mine it’s pretty much my go to bass.
  8. 17:00 for me, gonna be a lot of sitting around and twiddling thumbs I suspect 😂

  10. I’d agree with this, my old Status Streamline was a pretty solid thing at 7lbs which was quite a bit when you consider the diminutive size. The Alder/carbon wrap CW S2 comes in at about 8lb10oz so pro-rata about the same as full carbon.
  11. Status are no longer taking commissions so a new one is out. I’ve seen 6 string Stealths come up occasionally which would fit your bill, perhaps reaching out on the Wanted forum would be worth a punt?
  12. To be honest, the 3 basses i gig are also the cheapest I have. The number 1, a Mikey Way sig Mustang was a budget bass.
  13. The most I’ve spent on a new bass is just shy of £3600, I’d come into a little money and decided it was my last chance to acquire the Status bass I’d been lusting after. Going forward, on gigging basses, I’ll top out around the £1500 mark.
  14. Ticket job at a fairly local venue for us. Not done this one before so hopefully it’ll be ok. I always find NYE difficult to call as a gig, especially in recent years where I think the tendency to stay in has risen somewhat.
  15. This thread must be close to the record in terms of how off-piste it has travelled....
  16. This is something I've struggled with over the years. I generally use the movable anchor point but always felt bad as I saw a number of tutorials that said this was bad technique and that you should use floating thumb or anchor above the E. Nowadays I find it depends on the bass and what I'm doing. If I'm on a Mustang and playing fairly relaxed I'm on floating thumb, BUT, if I'm really digging in I find I unconsciously go back to movable anchor. On a bass with 18-19mm spacing I tend to be movable anchor whatever.
  17. Not the easiest to sing and play - not exactly root-5th.
  18. I think you’re right, the OMG setting does sound good in some settings, I use it like a ‘boost’ on gigs when I need some added oompf. I like the look of the Tbird type pickup though, do you have a link?
  19. Nah but it has plenty of references to Rudolph, Santa...etc.
  20. It was Rich, we wasn't too sure how it would go down (you know how punters can be with stuff they haven't heard before) but it was well received.
  21. Not sure Chris, I think the Fallout is essentially an L1000 in different clothing. I don't usually use it in single coil config (I find it a bit weedy compared to series/OMG).
  22. The XMas song our drummer wrote a couple of years back, Glam Fever, has been recorded by 70s band Hello. Not sure he’ll be able to retire just yet though.
  23. Giving me some food for thought there Chris, I'm looking at modding my Mikey Way Mustang next year as it could do with a bit of a liven up. The stock humbucker is ok but I'd like something a bit hotter - more like the MFD in my G&L Fallout. I tend to use these 2 basses on gigs and I much prefer the added punch and definition of the MFD over the stock pup in the Mustang.
