  1. It gets better plugged in. Awesome sound with full tone or backed off. You’ll be impressed
  2. Swapped a Jazz neck on an MIM for a Status J a few years back. Found the profile was exactly the same as the neck it was replacing. At the time I had 2 MIM jazzes and found the heel a little too tight in one of them, a1996 model (so would have needed a bit of a fettle) but perfect in the other a 2003 model.
  3. Mick Glaisher, drummer with the Comsats lived just around the corner from me, but being a few years older didn't move in the same circles as myself. Great band that should have gone further.
  4. Great bass, definitely future classics these. I’d love a black one to go with the blue but swimbo would kill me if I went back up to 3 Mustangs
  5. Same with me, the bass always on a stand in the corner is the JMJ. I only bought it as a back up.....
  6. Only one comment really Jack.....bugger.
  7. I use an LM3 or LM Little Markus 500 with a pair of NY121s. To be honest I've always found the sound with a single cab to be a bit boxed in when using my JMJ or Mikey Way Mustangs but the sound really opens up and has more authority when using 2 cabs. I only go single cab for rehearsals in small rooms for this reason and even at a small gig where the single 12" would have enough volume I still use 2 (both with the tweeters down to zero).
  8. Regarding the bridge springs. The saddle was so extended on the A string on mine that it worked loose and disappeared when I was playing on a jam night. I contacted FMCUK and they sent me a new 'aged' one - this looks to be a common problem. In the end I wound my saddles in a little (intonation still ok) so that the springs were under compression and there was no risk of losing any more saddles.
  9. I think the only Fender bass I've played in the last few years that I have been surprised by in a good way in terms of both sound and build is the JMJ Mustang and it's not made in the US.
  10. As you say shame about the neck cosmetics, like you I would have definitely haggled down the 9/10 rating on that. I had a US Sterling SUB and had the neck refinished as the black paint had started to go 'sticky', it played (and looked) much better after this - maybe that's an option if you decide the bass is a keeper.
  11. I think I'd be more likely to load it into a skip...
  12. All the best Blue. I’m in for round 2 next week, hoping the news is positive.
  13. It’s liveable with but I guess I’m just more used to Jazz type profiles (my ideal is the MM Sterling - best neck in the bass world for me). In the band I play in I rarely need to spend much time above 12th 😉
  14. Ditto, I use a couple of NY121s which fit easily into the boot of a 5dr Mini. I know the MB cabs have had criticism but I've found them spot on. Looked for something to replace them with a couple of years back but couldn't find anything that competed on price/size/weight/rating at the time.
  15. How the hell can Reverb call that 'good condition'? I'd call it 'buggered beyond belief in such a way that it makes your eyes bleed' condition.
  16. You won't regret it. Lovely tone.
  17. I used to teach numeracy and literacy so my excuse is laziness.....
  18. Down to a single EBMM after years of having at least 2. And the final one is a 2013 US Sterling, it's nowhere near as pretty as the last Ray I had but the neck is sublime and unlike many I prefer the harsher tone of the ceramic pup in series compared to the normal alnico parallel on the Ray. Sorry Casapete mines above 9lbs...
  19. For some reason bass solo stuff doesn't do anything for me so I hit my threshold at about the 2 minute mark. Can't argue on his ability though.
  20. Lovely light weight. Don't know what it is about honey burst EBMMs, the only Ray I've ever owned below 9lb was a honeyburst fretless (8.5lb).
  21. I had exactly the same on the relic Jazz I had from Limelight, totally useless, bought a standard Wilkinson bbot and fitted the saddles. Don’t know what Limelight do ( or don’t do) but Fender relics don’t seem to suffer from this.
  22. I recently had someone enquiring after my fairly mint 4003....he was genuinely shocked that I wouldn’t accept £1100 for it. I told him he’d be searching a long time.
  23. I took my 'clank plank' to a band rehearsal last night. They were surprised as, although I've been with the band 4 years, they'd never seen it. I usually use Mustangs for stage work and a Musicman in rehearsals. I was quite chuffed how it sounded in the mix and wondered why I had taken so long to drag it out of the closet....
