All the best Blue. I’m in for round 2 next week, hoping the news is positive.
-
It’s liveable with but I guess I’m just more used to Jazz type profiles (my ideal is the MM Sterling - best neck in the bass world for me). In the band I play in I rarely need to spend much time above 12th 😉

How the hell can Reverb call that 'good condition'? I'd call it 'buggered beyond belief in such a way that it makes your eyes bleed' condition.
-
You won't regret it. Lovely tone.

Dream basses that left you disappointed

I used to teach numeracy and literacy so my excuse is laziness..... -

Down to a single EBMM after years of having at least 2. And the final one is a 2013 US Sterling, it's nowhere near as pretty as the last Ray I had but the neck is sublime and unlike many I prefer the harsher tone of the ceramic pup in series compared to the normal alnico parallel on the Ray. Sorry Casapete mines above 9lbs... -
For some reason bass solo stuff doesn't do anything for me so I hit my threshold at about the 2 minute mark. Can't argue on his ability though.
-
Lovely light weight. Don't know what it is about honey burst EBMMs, the only Ray I've ever owned below 9lb was a honeyburst fretless (8.5lb).

Is now good time to be buying 'quality' musical instruments

I recently had someone enquiring after my fairly mint 4003....he was genuinely shocked that I wouldn’t accept £1100 for it. I told him he’d be searching a long time. -
What am I missing out on with not having a Rickenbacker?

I took my 'clank plank' to a band rehearsal last night. They were surprised as, although I've been with the band 4 years, they'd never seen it. I usually use Mustangs for stage work and a Musicman in rehearsals. I was quite chuffed how it sounded in the mix and wondered why I had taken so long to drag it out of the closet.... -
I'd love a Rick faker in that finish....glamtastic.
-
I recall a gig a few years back where I was accosted by the soundman at the soundcheck; he was complaining he couldn't get a decent sound from my Squier Mustang and indicated I should use my back up 'proper Fender' which was a JMJ Mustang. He wasn't amused when I told him it wasn't a proper Fender as it was made in Mexico....

Still got the Mikey Way sig, it’s still my main gigging bass in the Glamrock tribute act I play in. Punch well above their cost bracket. And yes I’d have another if they were reissued. -

Nice, I had one from this era with the comp stripe. Lovely basses. -
Weapons of choice... first rehearsal in nearly one year

In the end neither the Sterling or the Rick was used on the first post lockdown rehearsal, as I’d managed to get the new addition set up to my liking she got the honours. Wish my playing had been able to do her justice.....9 months without a gig takes its toll. -

Sadly not 😞 -
Nah....once you factor in shipping and VAT, as a minimum you've saved about a tenner.

The Tone's easy @ProfJames - all on full and both pups! If you're feeling punky then bridge pup solo'd with a pick. -

I think my 4003 is the bass I've had longest in my little armoury at the moment, probably because they're so difficult to sell now ...........but seriously. As others have said they are possibly the quintessential 'marmite' bass, they have so many idiosyncrasies that the blindly defending come across as delusional. The above said, the truss rod and bridge, once set up are problem free, mine has the lowest action of all my basses and I haven't had to touch either in 8 years. The top binding is a pain and I find I play mine finger style so it doesn't cut my forearm to bits.....etc. The sound is unique and I can't get near it with another bass so that justifies keeping it, so unless you feel you are missing out because of the sound or the image I'd forget about it and stick with what you have. -
