I have to resort to The Yorkshire adage - it’ll be reeet. Stay well Rich.

We’ll get through it Pete, it’s just as I get SAD, the last few years of playing with the Glam band has pretty much staved it off. I think this year I’m not looking forward to Christmas but to Spring. Stay safe mate.

You nearly had me there, I thought you meant it 😂

I've coped reasonably well through the year so far with lockdown, Tier 3 etc, cancelling about 40 gigs and only meeting up with the band 3 times since March but I'm finding December hard. As a 70s Glam act we put on a XMas show with lots of cheesy songs and props and I really look forward to the 4 week period each year. With this being in abeyance this year it's crept up on me and the glumness has hit. Anyone else finding the lack of XMas giggage hard to take?

I have this one sat at home Dave but rarely use it with the Glam band.....it’s the only bass I use that people have tried to nick between spots 😂

‘74 Jazz bass and the fear of getting it refretted
martthebass replied to mike f's topic in General Discussion
Had the neck vintage gloss finished by Jon last year. As it was a one piece maple it had to be refretted. He did a great job on it, didn’t go original but went for stainless as I prefer them on my PDN Ray. -
Tempo changing app for iPad recommendations?
martthebass replied to NickD's topic in General Discussion
Can't comment on file source, but for learning songs I generally use Amplitube if I wish to slow it down to learn on iPad. Free download, or at least it was. -

When I think back through the years I think the vast majority of the gigs I've played have been played on a 90s Mex Squier Jazz and more recently, an Indonesian Squire Mustang. I love my EBMMs and Rick but they aren't the go to basses for gigs. Ironically, I once lost out on an audition because I turned up with a Status bass and it wasn't right for the 'MOD' band......

True that, you get a feel for the difference in the Sterling bass. I love the series sound on the Sterling.

Although 40 years of playing bass have left me with cloth ears, even I can tell that my antique Naim CD player sounds shite for the first hour after powering up.

I’ve spent nowt on Bass stuff amazingly. But, as there’s been bugger all else to do, I’ve dropped too much cash on Astro-imaging gear.

Whadya mean? My £9000/metre holographic linear quantised 100% pure unobtainium speaker interconnects are absolutely essential for my listening pleasure!

That wasn't his question. You have pushed the discussion into an area that wasn't solicited. The ash vs alder tonal properties has been discussed numerous times previously....there's a search function should you wish to avail yourself of it.
-
To know whether it was alder or ash.........

I'd get it out and gig it before you even considered swapping any of the tronics. I've had a few and generally found that the solo'd and band mix sound can be very different so you need to do both before you decide the stock sounds work or don't work for you. IMHO I find my Starry Night PDN 4H a bit aggressive solo'd but sits just fine in the mix.

So, you're the headline act and...

Tough situation Blue. Also in the gigless scenario at the moment, we usually have all the following years gigs pretty much booked by now. So far no gigs for this year that are still in the diary will take place because of lockdown 2 and pub restrictions and all next years ones in the diary are still unconfirmed. Hard times
-
Still abstinent and now in week 44.......might be the first year in about the last 20 that no gear changes have occurred. I've been close (very nearly sold my Starry Night Ray and very nearly my unmentionable bass that starts with a 4 and ends in a 3) but all are still present and accounted for. The above said, the stage time this has been woefully poor for some reason..................

We’ve had the. remainder of our gigs for this year cancelled now Pete 🙁. In theory the next one is a WMC gig in January but I’m not hopeful.

It’ll come back Dave, us old Glamsters have to keep the faith

Why so many short scale basses at the moment?
martthebass replied to Greg Edwards69's topic in Bass Guitars
3 shorties and 3 long scales (counting a 33” Rick as a longy) in my armoury. The 3 shorties sound different to each other as do the long scale. I tend to find the shorties do help speed and ease of playing but the long scale are better when I want to dig in. Element of string tension, neck width and finger style playing comes into the equation I guess. My first bass was a 30” but then didn’t play another for over 30 years....glad I got the opportunity to get familiar again. -
The only gig left in the diary this year now cancelled due to tier 3....☹️

Need to see this one out and about Dan!

Thanks Dave. No I think I’ve done about 150 with the Mikey Way Mustang, it’s baring up well for a budget model!
