  1. I think that Rob G has made a few special commissions with wood board on a graphite neck but can’t remember if they were early incarnations of the resin/paper composite.
  2. Well if such crimes remain unforgivable in perpetuity perhaps we need instant death penalties. I think you'll need plenty of rope.
  3. So after 5+ months of inactivity there is some light at the end of the tunnel; in quick succession 'Glam Fever' got called back into the fray with 3 gigs..... Saturday 29th August - NHS benefit gig, outdoors with social distancing (Multi-band line up over 2 days). Friday 25th September - 'Farmyard' Bikers Rally at Helmsley, North Yorkshire, so pleased that this one has got the go ahead as it's a great event. Saturday 31st October - WMC in Royston, the first indoor gig we will have done since 7th March albeit it will be limited audience and observing social distancing rules. Now hopefully I can remember the songs.....
  4. As a lifelong Rotherhamite I can confirm that nothing is worth coming to Rotherham for.
  5. I've had a fair few Rays and 3 Sterlings and I was only adversely affected with the weak G on one of the Sterlings. That said it was in a live situation and a comment from an audience member and EBMM owner who think was looking for it. Can't say I'd noticed it when playing and listening through the back line. Changed the strings to status half-rounds and never had a comment again.
  6. Very nice, had the US Sub Sterling version a few years back which was active with the Alnico pup in series. Ended up selling when I came across a US full fat version with the ceramic pup (which I wanted as it offered a different flavour to my Ray). Only issue I had with mine was the black paint on the neck which had gone sticky - had the neck refinished to cure it.
  7. Oh that’s a bit special. None more yellow!
  8. I always try and remind myself to smile more on stage......maybe it's a bassist thing?
  9. Spoke to a couple of publicans this morning at 2 of our venues and the answer was no from both
  10. I think you'd be missing a trick if you didn't at least try out a Status, I'm sure there's a BC'er near you that would help you out. Status has a diverse range of basses and I guess the Streamline is the one that polarises opinion most. Having owned one I also know that Rob Green is more than helpful if there are any issues, even on older 2nd hand basses to the point of offering full refurb services, which would be more problematic on basses where the manufacturer is no longer in business.
  11. I had a Streamline for about 10 years....only traded it because a Starry Night Stingray came up which I couldn’t resist. Regarding the fretboard; no delamination on mine but some discolouration (greying) which I’ve seen before on Status necks, just a cosmetic thing, which could be lessened by cleaning with WD40. No cracking at all on the body, but there was a little around some of the frets on the side of the fretboard, it was very minor and never got any worse in 10 years. Truss Rod; I set the action when I got it, lowest action on any bass I’ve ever had and never had to touch it again. Soundwise, mine was warmer than I expected it to be and the 2 band eq wasn’t excessive (mine was an early one - number 6), never had a problem finding a usable sound. I will get another at some point should the opportunity arise but at £2k and no gigs, it’ll be a while.
  12. I’m in - be nice to swap out the Grolsch washers
  13. My daughter’s wedding was moved from early June to August 21st.....had to move it again now to April next year. She was gutted so in the end she’s getting married this month with limited numbers and have a big ‘fake’ ceremony next year. Honeymoon, in September was cancelled on them a week after they’d made the full payment....... On the gigging front, we were inundated with requests a couple of weeks back especially for this weekend. We gave our concerns as the guidance is as clear as mud. Going forward, most offers are now retracted as most venues have been informed they couldn’t go ahead with live music. We’re expecting next year before gigs are reprogrammed.
  14. Can’t disagree with you on the weight, I’ve had 3 Sterlings and not one has been less than 9.5lbs. But, surprised on your comment on the neck, the narrower profile makes it a fair bit faster for many players (me included) in comparison to the more precision like Ray.
  15. I'm seeing local 'semi-pro' bands on FB promoting their outdoor gigs occurring in the immediate future. The semi-pro band I'm in has assumed that we will not be doing any gigs for the remainder of this year, inside or outside (based on the current guidance) with the possible exception of a bikers rally in late September.
  16. Not sure how this 'live music outside' is going to work. The information around these parts that is coming back from venues is that the audience has to be seated and you can't have 'lively' music that would encourage dancing and/or loud singing. That pretty much rules us out then until some level of normality for inside gigs can be resumed with minimal risk.
  17. So glad this is thick end of £1100, if it had been a Squier MII at < £500 I would have been doomed.
  18. I'm in the 4 string camp, I prefer the feel of a 4 to a 5 but I'm more than happy to accept that a 5 would make my life easier for some of the stuff I play in my Glam Rock grouping as much is keyed down from the originals to suit the singist.
  19. Thanks for that @Maude. I’ve been generally happy with the loom/sounds but I’ve got to admit the possibility of putting as humbucking would be interesting. I always have to take a second bass with a humbucker as some venues make the Dano buzz like a bugger.
  20. Thanks K, could you pm me some details/pics. Not sure how the knobs come of the current pots so can't give any info on the pot shaft. Not a grub screw or a 'push-pull' fit as far as I can make out. I'll have to get into the guts to check.
  21. After recently nearly selling my Dano Longhorn (Covid did me a favour as I wouldn't post.....) I have grown to appreciate it's abilities and some of it's idiosyncrasies. One foible that still bugs however is the stacked vol/tone controls. There is no way, to me, to alter the settings with one hand as the tone always follows the volume as you adjust and vice versa. This makes life on stage a little interesting at times. Can anyone recommend an alternative set up, less plasticky and more functional. Cheers, Mart
  22. If it's like my JMJ Mustang (which I believe it is other than the relicing and the Pau Ferro) it likes to hang horizontally so not nasty neck dive as such. To be fair most Mustangs I've tried/owned whether CIJ, MIM or MII have been like this, the only one I've had which has no neck dive whatsoever is a 2012 Mikey way sig Mustang which has a heavier Basswood body.
  23. Sorry to hear that Pete. It's certainly started to have an affect on my mental health, not just the furlough periods but just not seeing mates. Haven't seen my band mates since our last gig at the beginning of March which feels weird as we normally played pretty much every week. You stay strong mate.
