  1. Not seen any MIJ SS Jags, thought they were all Indonesian Squiers(?) but I could be wrong on this - someone will correct me if so. I had one of the SS Squiers - nice enough bass but not up to the quality of the MIJ Mustang re-issues. Made a pleasant noise though, but had a lot of neck dive.
  2. Shame.....my Starry Night spends far too much time in its case also.
  3. Still miss that bass occasionally H, I hope it still gets to go out gigging!
  4. Think I'll revise my comment above. I should have said 'do you want to be in a band where you can't have an opinion?' On the examples you stated I think you were expressing an opinion rather than being opinionated; the latter of which has negative connotations that you were dogmatic and unyielding.
  5. These look so nice without the normal awful pickguard. Wish I was adapted to 5ers as I think this looks particularly awesome
  6. In answer to the question.....well, yes and no. The question to yourself is do you want to be in a band where you can't be opinionated?
  7. I'm a full on both pups guy and I get where you're coming from. The 4003 is a very versatile bass but I do think it has a 'core' sound with the stock pups and loom. That's the reason I bought one, for that core sound, I think I'd fail if I was trying to make it sound like a Jazz or MM. For that reason it only gets used in situations where I want that core sound. Sorry if that wasn't very helpful.
  8. One out on a stand and the others in gig bags or HSCs. I alternate the one on the stand to make sure they all get played at least a couple of times a month. I don't like leaving basses on a stand too long as I'm always concerned that there could be some reaction with the paint. I had a white MM ray react to the plastic on a stand some years back even though it was supposed to be unreactive.
  9. Spent my birthday on a gig, ironically a rare private job, a 60th birthday
  10. Have to agree on this. Recently had a 2015 MIA precision, custom shop pups, carbon rods, very lightweight (8.5lb). I'm not a precision fan and sold it on fairly quickly but in terms of a precision it was one of the best I've played (and that includes 70s and a first edition JV 1982). £800 is about the going rate for a good one.
  11. This, If using my own car (VW Polo or Tiggy) on a gig I use gig bags and wedge them behind the front and back seats. I only use the hard cases when we all use the gig van.
  12. Updated. The short scale contingent is now back up to 3 after the addition of the little Dano Longhorn.
  13. We supported one of the GB variants a couple of years back and the band did play some GG stuff. Some people mentioned the taste of the selection but in the main it went down well. As I said in earlier post we decided from the outset not to cover GG whether it was accepted or not as, understandably many won’t separate the music from the crime.
  14. Always a tricky one this. Being in a glam rock act we made a decision early on that absolutely no Gary Glitter was included in the sets. Last year we were considering brining in some Glitter Band numbers, due to the association with GG we put the question to our followers on our FB site. The vote was almost 50 50 for yes no, so, with a heavy heart (like Brexit) we decided no to add any GG numbers in for fear of upsetting any members of the crowd. I can see this sort of thing getting increasingly difficult as more and more allegations (many posthumous) get dragged up.
  15. Dan...stop doing this to me. This is one I really do wish I had the money for, it has the nicest tone of any MM I've ever played; that position 2 (or is it 4?) is sublime. I'll have to console myself with my single H paupers bass when Mr Shuker has completed it's neck beautification process!
  16. I agree with Shambo on this. I've got a MII and MIJ Mustangs. I can't deny that the build quality on the MIJ edges the MII in terms of fit, feel and finish but the MII feels the better player to me.
  17. The My NY121's have a piezo rather than a horn. A lot don't like the sound of it, however, unlike the combo you can dial it down to nothing should you so choose. I've never found the need for it.
  18. Sorry to hear this Blue. You've got the best attitude though, looking back on the good time you've had. I decided when I took on the bassist job with my current band that, when this band comes to an end that'll be the end of semi-pro gigging for me. Hopefully it'll be a while but I'm building up a nice portfolio of memories. All the best buddy.
  19. Another shout out for the Smooth Hound unit. I've had the back panel issue that seems to be common but a quick email saw one come through the post immediately - I'm just more careful now when changing batteries. I've had one unexplained drop out at a gig but the Guitarist (on a Samsung unit) had exactly the same problem at the same time that rendered us unable to go wireless for the entire gig. We're concluding it was something beyond the laws of physics pertaining to that venue as we'd had no problems before or since.
  20. I have no idea what it means, pretty much like the 70s when I used to read HiFi mags and they described a particular system as sounding, boxy, nasal, lugubrious, wooly....etc. Guess I'm a simple soul, with me to paraphrase like wine, if it tastes alright it must be good.
  21. Very nice, as a recent convert to Mustangs for gigging purposes I can really appreciate this.
  22. Can't comment on the Orange cab you mention as I've never tried one. On the MB side though, I found the 2x10 lacked depth, it was great in a small setting or partnering another cab (a second 2x10 or a 1x15) but for me not enough in a bigger gig setting on its own. I ended up with 2 NY121 cabs, I use one for a small acoustic jamnight type setting and 2 for a gig. Amp partners are a LM3 or a Little Marcus 500. The second 12 to my ears adds a lot of depth to the sound and I've never found it lacking right up to the point where I felt DIing into the house PA was required. Small footprint and small car baggage friendly too. I've tried BF compact cabs but for me I could never get on with the sound with MB amps - subjective judgement of course.
  23. Similar this end - Shadowplay popped my Bass cherry.
  24. I often get 'baby' bass if I use one at a jam night (but never at a gig for some reason). Strangely enough nobody ever refers to my Musicman basses or Rick as 'Adult' basses?
