  1. As said above - This. Any 'professional' would never cancel on the basis of a 'better offer' if they had committed to a dep gig.
  2. Sounds like that guy really knew what he was talking about Yep, nothing divides opinion like a 4003. On the action side, I found mine quite easy to sort (not as easy as a MM or Fender but not difficult) and once set I haven't had to touch it for 5 years (and counting).
  3. Probably a bit late now but I but Schaller S types for both my Mustangs and noticed that the screws were going to cause some problems if I screwed them in without some drilling/fettling. On this basis I decided against it and decided to go the 'Grolsch Top' route on both (stuck the Schallers on my Musicmen instead). 2 years on with one of the Mustangs and it's never moved despite about a 100 gigs.
  4. We play a place like that. Second time we played it we made an effort to chat and joke with the door men. At load out time, they nicely held the doors and made a nice hole in the crowd, even helped with some of the lifting.
  5. Just don't get bored too quickly as I've got to pay for a neck respray on a Sterling (with Mr Shuker) and would have to sell a Rickenbacker (not an easy task these days lol).
  6. Well jealous Dan........let me know if you get bored with it (but you won't).
  7. What’s the tension like on them Si.....I prefer low to medium, never got on with high tension flats.
  8. I've had my current Mustangs for quite a while now but I'm the sort that prefers old to new strings so they are still wearing strings that are 12-18 months old (the ones they came with). I've got a gig this weekend where, for various reasons, I'm restricted to one bass; as both are the vintage bridge style (not BBOT) and strung through body only, could somebody recommend me a string set that are long enough but not too long in case I need to do a change on the fly. Thanks in advance.....
  9. After a few years on a Stingray 5 (ceramic pup era) I briefly had a Basic KT with Delanos. I have to agree with Andruca that they sounded very dull and lifeless in comparison.
  10. Love a bit of Rezillos......ahhh to be back in that era.
  11. Not exactly HM but Alan Lancaster didn't do too bad with his.
  12. I'm failing miserably. A new MarkBass Little Marcus 500 and a EBMM Sterling 4H acquired in a PX. Must try harder.
  13. Couldn't find a Mikey Way - I'll have to look harder.
  14. There’s definite blurring of the edges though; pub rock to punk to new wave. Some pub rock bands morphed into punk/new wave like Dury and arguably the Stranglers.
  15. The early 70s was more than Glam and Prog. I always thought the Pub Rock scene with the likes of Ducks Deluxe, Feelgood, Ian Dury, Brinsley Schwarz and the like was like high energy 'proto-punk.'
  16. Think we'll have to agree to disagree on this BRX. If you do decide to employ playing scales to improve speed and dexterity then, for some, it helps in the general playing of basslines in general. I accept that it doesn't work for you, but that's you, not everybody else.
  17. Great basses these BB - well worth the money. As said above, the neck is easily sorted by some rubbage as it can get a bit sticky (mine did). It the case of the SUB I had, I had the black paint removed from all but the front of the headstock and had the back gloss lacquered. Hard to get all of the black flecks out but looked good to me and played a lot better for it.
  18. So, it's a personal thing. Some people perceive a benefit (e.g. me), some do not (you). You can know all the notes on the fretboard without them meaning much if the relationships are not well known - without the relationships they are just letters, IMHO.
  19. I gave you my two...but we're all different.
  20. From a personal point of view it gave me a better appreciation of the inter-relationship of the available notes on the bass and how to better understand how basslines in popular covers songs were constructed. Your mileage may differ...... Do I practice on scales - no.
  21. Not sure if it's a popularity thing? They didn't sell too many of the US built SUB in Sterling format (I had one - very nice bass, foolishly sold it) I believe.
  22. Glad to see that, I thought the Sterling was in the departure lounge. Just acquired another one after a few years on its bigger brother. Forgot how awesome they are.
