  1. As our lass would say...’keep digging, keep digging’
  2. Ditto, was never a big fan of Hemispheres - loved one side not the other, guess it was a game of 2 halves I'm with you on FTK - definitely my favourite Rush album.
  3. BTW Pete, I was at a local Jam in Rotherham last night with Mike Harris the drummer - asked me to pass on his best.
  4. I can still remember visiting a shop in Doncaster (that shall remain nameless) in the late eighties looking for a new US Jazz. The guy in the shop was absolutely desperate to sell me one of the, must have been 10-15, 'roadworn' 1970s Jazz or P basses. I tried each and every one of them and all were, to put it kindly, thrown together by gibbons in a dark room using bear skins and stone knives. It still amazes me how much some of these sad examples (I totally accept that some examples however are sublime and would love the cash for Gary Mac's example which is currently on sale) now fetch but I suspect it's the image rather than the sound/construction that appeals in many of these cases.
  5. If I could find the time I'd be winging my way down to Essex to pick this beauty up right now.
  6. To invigorate interest I've made a reduction on this to £1000. It won't be dropping any further, but I thought I'd give it flog before putting it back in storage.
  7. With a band as good as you indicate I think a frank band discussion to set some boundaries/ground rules would be my first port of call. It sounds like the singer needs to be reminded that he isn't the band and you guys are not there purely to service him (ooer). Peoples expectations and commitment/availability change over time, has this been factored into the new dynamic - is the singer firing on 'all thrusters' and wanting to push the band beyond the original remit and the rest of you can't keep up......just playing devils advocate?
  8. I had one of those moments a few weeks back at an outdoor jobbie running through a big PA. DI'd into the desk from my MarkBass LM3 - no signal at the desk, lots of frantic changing of leads and checking connections, noticed I had the DI out level on zero.......Doh!
  9. Is that Wroot near Finningly? Let me know when you're next local, if it's not a gig night I'll try and catch you guys.
  10. If I looked rationally at my bass collection I'd sell the 2MMs and the Rick and pocket say £4K or so. My gigging needs are serviced by 2 Mustangs with a combined value of say £750 - £1000? As long as I get some pleasure from playing the mid-range stuff at home/Jams then I'll keep them and somewhere down the line, when I hang up my wigs and stage gear, sell them and use the cash for something in my dotage. At the minute Ricks and MMs are probably doing better than my crappy ISA!
  11. Your mileage may vary Al...... What if Andy sells his amp for £1000 today and decides to buy the replacement new amp in one years time for £1200? If I'd sold a EBMM Ray 3 years ago I would have got about £6-700 to buy a used one now would cost me about £1000, a new one around £2000.
  12. I think we've all been here at one time or another Andy. I took a break during the formative years of my family life and when I was jetting all over the world with my job. Got back into it when time became more available and when I felt more focussed to get back into music. My old adage has always been 'if it ain't fun and you don't need to do it, then don't do it'. Nothing wrong with taking a break, do something else, become a man in lycra on a Sunday morning - whatever floats your boat. Keep some gear back so that you're not starting from scratch because the BC stats show that most come back to it at some point and start (back)up costs outweigh what you'll make on selling. This place will still be here when you decide to come back, enjoy your break Andy.
  13. Big thank you to Chris at Smooth Hound - sent me a new plastic back cover for my transmitter unit when mine broke. No questions asked and within a couple of days - great service.
  14. Oooooh good to know. I'm about due for a new one for my Mikey Way Sig Mustang. Could you let me know by pm on pricing Tim. BWB and Pearloid White are my 2 preferences.
  15. I'll send mine back then as it's straight lol
  16. Lazy response from RIC. I must have got lucky, mine was nice and straight and the bezel went on without problem.
  17. As you say that's a shame. There's a fair bit on the interweb on this problem (or they used to be); the bridge was a common place for the problem and Rickenbacker blamed roughness on the underside of the bridge but I don't think they managed to sort the problem this way. From what I saw it looked as if the paint had not adhered to the wood and basically de-laminated. It was particularly prevalent on Jetglo and I think Midnight Blue (I was very careful to check my mid blue 4003 and, touch wood, it's been fine) and seemed to be in batches which led those affected to conclude issues with the paint curing process. Also no problem with clear coated (fireglo, mapleglo) so looked to be an issue with the base colour coat. Somebody might come along who knows more about this than me and can correct any errors I've spouted above.
  18. That's a shame Delb, hope you get sorted. IMHO you still need to be careful with the solid paint finishes, I know it's a few years back (problems with the UV cat process?), but even in 2010-2012 RIC were having problems with paint lifting off especially around the bridge area. Even the slightest paint issue on a new bass and I'd be sending it back for replacement. As Jonse said, 'classic Rickenbacker QC'.....so when you get a good one hang on to it.
  19. Yes Delb, you have to do that or you are officially a pillock ;-)
  20. Unfortunately a new acquisition means something has to move on. I’ve had this bass for about 10 years, it was bought for an 80s project but it was only used on stage a couple of times sadly. It’s got the lowest action of any fretless bass I’ve ever owned and will effortlessly produce the mwaaah we all seek. It’s the 2eq version which IMHO works better on the fretless Ray than the 3eq. This is a 2001 model and is in fantastic condition with no dings, cracks or chips to be seen, even the tip of the headstock is good. I suspect the bass has spent the majority of its life as a closet classic - it certainly has with me. The neck is nicely figured with a bit Birdseye and flame going on. Comes in the standard EBMM case which is in good condition with no cracks/damage whatsoever. I’d prefer collection (Yorkshire, East Mids) or meet up on this one but will entertain courier collection if arranged by the buyer. The pics are iPad sadly but I can arrange something better if required. Update: I will consider trades but only 4string fretted. I'm pretty picky but I can only say no eh?
  21. Had a few and all have been fine on a strap.
  22. Got a 2010 in this very same colour Delb. Fortunately it doesn't suffer from the dreaded paint bleed. Stick the bezel on and you're sorted! Very nice bass mate.
