  1. It was called Aluminum before it was called Aluminium (and initially Alumium) - You have Sir Humphrey Davy to blame for that. Useless science fact of the day.
  2. After many years I've come to the conclusion that, like wands, the bass chooses the wizard....
  3. Maybe this is why I haven't moved on from the 70s and 80s
  4. Think you file this one under 'no loss'. Much better to be part of a band where you're appreciated.
  5. Wow, even Eddie the Eagle could manage 100m off that ski ramp.
  6. They are the same in as much as they both have strings and pups and make a bassy noise. Comp and boarding school are both schools that (sort of) provide education. Anyway...as you were.
  7. Yup, it's one of the good ones - doesn't get used in the current band though (Mustangs - go figure?). I'd love to buy the Stealth but the run of new bed, new tumble dryer and new washing machine ('Has to be a Miele' - the wife) has put paid to that!
  8. Oooh, never heard that. Nah I was referring to the original album version. I like the way the bassline subtly changes after the lead in and changes the whole feel of the song.
  9. Bombers - Tubeway Army....especially the intro section.
  10. You're just making it worse H. I really like the Stealth 5 in the for sale section but would have to sell my least used fretted bass (a bass of a variety that is 'unmentionable') to enable the purchase or risk being emasculated by she who must be obeyed!
  11. Keep both Richard.....you know you'll end up buying another one of these a few months down the line!
  12. Looks really good that H. Not doing my Status GAS any good at all. Missing my old Streamline but can't decide which bass to cull to enable an acquisition. A nice replacement (fretted) neck on my MM Fretless might be the order of the day!
  13. You've just told my early musical history.........not born on/around 1963 by any chance?
  14. I think many many teachers, rather than wringing hands would like to wring necks. Unfortunately they are not allowed to these days. Shame, in my day it had the double advantage of improving the gene pool and providing entertainment for psychopathic metalwork teachers.
  15. I really wish someone would buy this.......it's like it's sitting there in the corner, taunting me for being poor!
  16. Agree C, think he's talking BS.......I think my tastes changed routinely through to my mid twenties and then more slowly thereafter.
  17. Didn’t read enough to note they were cedar. Had an overwater Perception in cedar, nice enough, picked dings up easily but no worse than basswood.
  18. IMHO the whole relic thing is very subjective, for instance I don't mind the look of an old P or J bass but I think a worn Rick looks 'stinky poo'. I think Ricks do seem to come off as being more fragile, I've had no problem with mine, but the relatively thin body and design doesn't seem as robust as a 10lb Ray or P bass. On a separate note, I'm wondering if some of these lightweight, sub 3Kg basses will stand up to the rigors of giggage?
  19. Think you've made the right decision mate, hope the replacement isn't too long in coming.
  20. I play finger style and find it no problem to play with the bezel installed. It’s got a nice anchor point and the narrower than typical string spacing makes playing over the bridge pup a doddle. Got to admit, I wouldn’t be able to play it without the bezel
  21. Cheers mate, busy all Saturdays but one till the new year but will deffo try and catch up with your new venture!
  22. Love this one, took me a while to nail it (as I'm too crap/occasional on fretless).
