  1. I have got the exact beast what you are looking for but unfortunately this is a tad weightier than my knackered shoulder could take. Good luck with the sale it’s a cracking looking Jazz.
  2. My old bass. I can confirm that this is a great example of the breed and this is a cracking price! If I could sneak this past the wife I’d have it back. Sound wise it’s up there with my PDN Stingray (same pup and 3eq circuit) for about £1400 less.....
  3. That seriously awful version of Everybody wants to rule the world'...........why, just why?
  4. Sorry - think I'm falling into the 'it was better in my day'. I'm not stupid enough to believe that is necessarily the case I just think that the ways in which music is now accessed is not aligned with my lifestyle. In the 'olden' days, my access was via weekly doses of The Tube and TOTP which were great music magazine programmes and obviously via Radio 1 and the like. When I scan the multitude of channels on Sky I find a lot of very samey 'chart' programmes and retrospectives of the 80s/90s etc which don't really grip me. I also find a lot of 'chart stuff' on commercial radio to be instantly forgettable and could have been written (and performed) by computers - which I find ironic because I really loved early 80s electronica. So, my conclusion: I'm officially old and will continue to listen to the likes of Joy Division, Japan, Cabaret Voltaire..........
  5. This is an interesting, informative thread.......let's please keep it civil.
  6. Just goes to show there’s as many opinions as people. If the OP had wanted a Jazz or a P then the thread would’ve been ‘which J or P should I get?’ Not many BCers have a single bass and I don’t believe in the ‘Swiss army knife bass’. So one gig might be a Jazz, the next a Status, and yet another a Ray 4H 3eq..
  7. Passive Rays aren’t exactly representative of the breed..... Can’t recall ever seeing one outside of the cheapest US Sub model. I’ve sometimes found that the on stage sound wasn’t the best but go front of house and the sound is great....
  8. Ditto, I set this as my '2010 yearly challenge' got the gist fairly quickly - but took a long time to nail cleanly.
  9. Polite reminder - Trade offers to be made by PM only.
  10. Playing in a Glam Rock tribute act forces some compromises on the bass end. I’d been playing a Status for years and loved the sound and flexibility but it didn’t look right - similar with the MM basses. I’ve ended up on Mustangs which I can just about tweek to a decent sound in most venues but I have to be a bit judicious on occasion with the eq on the MarkBass set up.
  11. As I’ve said before lovely bass and my YOB. Maybe one day if the numbers come up lol.
  12. Don’t think I have a number one bass anymore. I have a bass I gig more than the others and basses that would be tough for me to replace but none are sacrosanct. I keep thinking of selling the 3 non-cheapies and getting something really special but I doubt I’ll ever go through with it. Ironically my main gigging bass is nominally the one of lowest value (the Mustang on the left - the Jag is no longer resident).......go figure.
  13. I'm in the same boat there Linus....I've been looking at replacement cabs and heads this year but can't find anything that offers the size/weight practicality of this set up. I'll probably end up sometime next year getting a new LM3 and relegating my current one to back up and swapping out the cabs for new units one by one.
  14. Another shout here for the LM3 they are very reasonable 2nd hand (a near mint one in the FS section with case for £300). Sounds nice through the NY121 but as others have alluded to above, the single cab set up is really for small gigs/rehearsal IMHO. I always pair mine with a second NY121 for a gig, it extends the bass and fills out the sound and volume, I've never had an issue no matter what size the venue.
  15. Just sold mine (but only because I'd picked up a CIJ Mustang). Cracking basses and dare I say it, sound as good/better than both my Mustangs.
  16. I'd love to hear Geddy play some Jazz...........he doesn't mind a bit of odd time signature stuff. he might struggle with the 'random' notes though?
  17. A hideous EB0 copy named Avon bought from Woodruffs(?) in Brum in 1981 when I was bored one Saturday afternoon (and escaping the Uni assignment). It only had one sound - a sort of thuddy plonk which the guitarist in the Joy Division tribby band I found myself in thought was great. I was less impressed and much to his horror I replaced it with a brand new first edition JV 57 P bass in 1982. I unfortunately traded the JV a few years later for a 'proper' US Jazz which I discovered was a POS compared to the JV.......oh well the folly of youth.
  18. ...yes, please verify your credentials or get the hell outta here. Big Poppa.
  19. I know mate, I’ve been using an LM3 with the 121s for about 5 years....I’m going to retire it to ‘spare’ but will pick up a newer replacement. Sure yours will sell quick at that price, the carry cases are above £50 on their own I think.
  20. Ditto. By habit, I check the nuts on both locks when I first put the bass on. Takes about 5 seconds. No biggy. Strangely enough though, for my routine gigging basses I use the best straplocks known to man....Grolsch tops. never, ever, ever, ever fail
  21. Cracking price this Martin..........where do you keep pulling the MB gear from ;-)? I'll be wanting one of these to replace my spare head (Ibby Promethean) but not just yet. Still haven't found anything to better the 2 MB NY121 cabs you sold me some time back. GLWTS mate.
  22. If I suggested this as a purchase to my wife Silvia I'd get a slap......
