  1. Keep both Richard.....you know you'll end up buying another one of these a few months down the line!
  2. Looks really good that H. Not doing my Status GAS any good at all. Missing my old Streamline but can't decide which bass to cull to enable an acquisition. A nice replacement (fretted) neck on my MM Fretless might be the order of the day!
  3. You've just told my early musical history.........not born on/around 1963 by any chance?
  4. I think many many teachers, rather than wringing hands would like to wring necks. Unfortunately they are not allowed to these days. Shame, in my day it had the double advantage of improving the gene pool and providing entertainment for psychopathic metalwork teachers.
  5. I really wish someone would buy this.......it's like it's sitting there in the corner, taunting me for being poor!
  6. Agree C, think he's talking BS.......I think my tastes changed routinely through to my mid twenties and then more slowly thereafter.
  7. Didn’t read enough to note they were cedar. Had an overwater Perception in cedar, nice enough, picked dings up easily but no worse than basswood.
  8. IMHO the whole relic thing is very subjective, for instance I don't mind the look of an old P or J bass but I think a worn Rick looks 'stinky poo'. I think Ricks do seem to come off as being more fragile, I've had no problem with mine, but the relatively thin body and design doesn't seem as robust as a 10lb Ray or P bass. On a separate note, I'm wondering if some of these lightweight, sub 3Kg basses will stand up to the rigors of giggage?
  9. Think you've made the right decision mate, hope the replacement isn't too long in coming.
  10. I play finger style and find it no problem to play with the bezel installed. It’s got a nice anchor point and the narrower than typical string spacing makes playing over the bridge pup a doddle. Got to admit, I wouldn’t be able to play it without the bezel
  11. Cheers mate, busy all Saturdays but one till the new year but will deffo try and catch up with your new venture!
  12. Love this one, took me a while to nail it (as I'm too crap/occasional on fretless).
  13. I understand that D! You'll have to let me know how this works in a band context. One thing I found with my SN is that it sounds less aggressive (in a good way) to some of my previous Rays. I always poo-poo'ed the potential effect of roasted maple necks (and ebony boards come to that) but I can't argue that there is a difference against bog standard SR4s I've previously owned. It's a shame the new ones don't have figured necks - I love the birdseye on my PDN, it really works well with the roast. I'd love the whole neck to be lacquered to show it off to it's best but I understand that most have a preference for the oil/wax finish below the headstock.
  14. Don't disagree HJ. I end up in physio every 2 years or so - not back but wear and tear on the 5th and 6th. Trapped nerve city....... Physio suggests exercises to help build a bit of muscle mass but also instructs on posture (so no bass hanging below your knees......). Not always easy if you want to be active on stage but you can do your best. I tend to use 8lb basses on stage now to help and only use 9lb plus basses for single spotters or jams.
  15. Glad you got sorted Tom. Those bezels are great - had one on mine from day one, very functional.
  16. Don’t think I’d be happy with that neck pocket either, I’ve had it and accepted it on £150 basses but at £2000+ I’d expect much better. I’m assuming this crept through QC - don’t think I’ve ever had an MM like that.
  17. Absolutely awesome gig headlining the MAG rally on Friday Night at Duncombe Park in Helmsley, North Yorkshire. Outside gig, under canvas, great stage and sound and lights crew. Packed tent with very enthusiastic crowd. Crowd loved our, slightly rocked up set of 70s Glam Rock classics. Wish all gigs were like this.
  18. I’ve just sent him a message on your behalf.
  19. Casapete - over to you?
  20. I wish.......certainly not with a 9lb plus Stingray!
  21. Wow....there's only 2 5ers that could tempt me into having another go at the low B; one of these and a Streamline. Why oh why do these come up when all my bass cash is tied up in ummm Basses. Bugger.
  22. Have one of these myself, they really are a bit special.
  23. I know what you mean Pete - still love that OGWT footage of Tina on Psycho Killer with the modified Mustang. I still have a Jap re-issue in the same colour scheme (with the cream 'racing' stripes) in homage. Like Discreet, I think I was in love despite the pudding basin haircut!
  24. At the minute I exclusively use Shorties for gigs (Glam Rock outfit - plenty of movement required for a man of my advancing years), a pair of Mustangs, both around the 8lb mark. Some compromises (I prefer the sound and string tension of my Rays) but they get the job done and I finish the gigs pain free.
  25. Very nice D, looks very similar to my 'old style' Starry Night PDN jobby. I'd love to be able to justify one of these but swmbo would string me up by the danglies... Is this going to provide competition for the Precisions?
