  1. Definitely can be. I'll always give one a chance but if the dreaded clique (usually involving 30 minute renditions of Hey Joe) rears it's head then it's a one-visit thing.
  2. Very nice. I have one of these and they are a bit special. Also the sound is a bit different to other Rays I've had in the past, somehow less 'spikey/fizzy' with more low end and punch - don't know if that's something to do with the neck construction and SS frets? GLWTS.
  3. All power to your elbow mate! If I only played what I like I'd be lucky to do 10 gigs per year.
  4. I like it but then again my taste could be considered suspect.....as I also like the Starry Night PDN Ray.
  5. 79 - 82....still my favourite period of popular music ever.
  6. You ever played Northern Working Men's Clubs HJ.........a combination of The Doors, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Diana Ross and The Supremes would fail to move them from the 10 rounds of bingo?
  7. Well I bought a Rick 4004Cii for my 50th......that 'learned' me. It wasn't with me on my 51st. For my 55th, I decided on a Breitling as I was less likely to swap it for a bass down the line.
  8. Honestly, a genyooine USA built EBMM Sterling SUB for only 400 pounds Sterling. Great bass in great condition that’s looking for a loving home and helping me keep clear of the divorce court. You can’t go wrong!
  9. As some of the above comments, if it's a genyooine 63 P bass then it would be sensible to approach any 'improvement' process differently to a 2018 Squier P bass. I've had to 'improve' my 2005 EBMM Sterling Sub USA, I'd have preferred to keep it stock but the horrible sticky, flaking paint on the neck convinced me that intervention was required. This was remedied at a fair cost which would never be recouped if sold but made the bass far more playable.
  10. I’ve edited this to open up again for a final price of £400. This will only be available for as long as a bass that I have got my eyes on is still available.
  11. This and the Capri Orange at the same time. This is just not fair. If I thought I could sell a couple of mine in time I'd be on with it. GLWTS
  12. Exactly what I'm looking for. Why does this always have to happen when I have no cash!!!
  13. sorry, I like it. Not enough to buy it, but I like it. Whip it, whip it good.....
  14. Colour me interested, looking at a direct passive replacement in my Squier Mustang (Mickey Way Sig) as I find the stock one a bit under powered and lacking in bite.
  15. Ironically I used to teach literacy.......unfortunately the OCD got the better of me and I had to quit. Equally ironically, I took part in a study (while teacher training) looking into the effects of media on information assimilation. Apparently I fell into the group where the screen was much less effective than the page.
  16. Not at all mate, glad that it found a good home. If I’d kept it it would have ended up stored in a case in perpetuity. Ironically I have another ‘non standard’ Ray in the ‘herd’ but that is getting some use.
  17. Rewinding to the mid nineties I was in a Brit Pop band, Oasis, Kula Shaker, OCS, Shed 7 etc, we were booked by the agent to play a backwater WMC called The Titanic. The place was full at the start of the first spot but my good feeling was tarnished with the head count of blue rinses and all manner of Country & Western style dress. You could hear a pin drop after every song....the singist, a bit flustered by the response, garbled something about ‘this is the closest to Country that we do’ before launching into ‘She’s Electric’. By the end of the first spot the audience count was down by 80%, the concert sec came into the dressing room in the interval and launched into a tirade about how we had emptied the club etc. Git wouldn’t pay us off though so we had to endure another hour of slow death before packing up and going home....
  18. On occasions like this my default position is ‘damn autocorrect’
  19. I specifically said ‘overgeneralisation’ so as to differentiate it from your ‘generalisation’.....please keep up 😘 I do use a MacBook instead of one of those new dangled PC things though...
  20. Up until recently I’ve always had a 1 in 1 out policy. However, over the last 18 months the gig money coming in has grown and ahem, along with that so has the collection of gear. Some of this acquisition I guess has been justified, e.g. buying a backup amp head, however the main problem has been the growth of the bass collection from 3 to 6. In my head I justify all 6 but in reality 3 should be more than sufficient as I never take more than 2 basses to a gig. Ironically the 2 basses I use for gigs are cheap as chips (a Squier Mustang and a Squier Jaguar ss); the expensive US made stuff, 3 Musicman basses and ‘cough’ a Ric, generally sit at home. Don’t get me wrong, they all get played but if they all disappeared in a puff of smoke it wouldn’t stop my musical endeavours. So, how do you guys keep this thing under control and/or make sensible decisions on what to dispose of?
  21. My two shorties that get used in the Glam Rock tribute act. The Mikey Way sig Mustang gets used most weekends, the Jag ss is a new addition that will be replacing my MM USA Sterling Sub for backup duties.
  22. Not one for overgeneralisation then PC? I’m pretty sure that everyone over the age of 55 doesn’t read the Daily Mail and exhibit a lack of capacity to access and interpret the internet. Similarly I’m sure not everyone under the age of 25 uses ‘of’ in place of ‘have’......
  23. Another 'Yes' vote, routinely alternate between a MM Sterling SUB USA and a Squier Mustang without a problem. The Squier definitely punches above its weight.
  24. Sat Nav and a new model VW Tiguan for my gear. PA goes in the drummers Van. If the gig is a 'long haul' then we double up if not then it's separate cars/vans.
