Thanks for the correction...my life is now complete. Having now 'done my research'...it appears that about 80% of the bands we covered in our post punk/'power pop' trio were in the post punk category as defined by Wikipedia.

To me it's the 1978-80 period; Jags, Vapours, Department S, Elvis Costello etc...

Post punk (rather than 'classic punk') is a big love of mine; I was in a PP band before going Glam 8 years back. It seems to be a bit more popular around here than it was then....we were always struggling for gigs. The 'Glam' market seems to be becoming more crowded with bands in these parts now; when we started out there were very few in these parts with only one other Glam band routinely playing in Yorkshire.

That's a shame Dave. I've occasionally thought about a post punk side project from our Glam band but as you say December is normally full of Glam revellers and I didn't think it fair to a side project.

It’s a regular thing at this pub done entirely by the good spirited Landy. It’s the only venue we play that does this.

Old Masons Arms just south of Leeds last night. Second Glam Fever gig with the new dep drummer and things had tightened up considerably thankfully - he did a great job and we had a blast. We've got him until the end of September when we take a month long break to allow for any hospital treatment I might need, then a new drummer starting in November who knows the crack. It was a hot and sweaty one - just the sort of gigs we enjoy with lots of dancing and whatnot; it was nice to see a fair few faces from bikers rallies who'd travelled far and wide to catch us in one of our rare visits to this locale. The 'tip bucket' was nicely full at the end of the night!

As above I've struggled to price this one so to avoid piecemeal reductions I've gone straight for a final reduction. Beyond this I think I'd rather keep hold of it even though I've got no immediate use for it - Jazz basses always come in handy if you wait long enough lol. The last interweb prices I saw on these were about £1200 for a B stock finished damaged one and £1299 for a new minter so I think £790 is more than reasonable for essentially an as-new bass. As always though, the market will decide but I think this is one of those bases like the previous MW Mustang that will always be desirable albeit niche. I'm not looking for a trade but would consider a good condition Sterling short scale stingray at a push with cash my way. -

Just back from a local gig with the Glam band. It was a challenge as our drummer of the last 9 years quit with no notice last Sunday. Fortunately we were able to sort a dep who was a star and managed to enable the birthday party that we would’ve sadly had to let down.

Well this one is a surprise to me even. I only bought this a few weeks back but a change of band circumstances and the basses I’m using for gigging means this will likely see little use. It’s a limited edition 2023 Mikey Way sig jazz in an amazing silver sparkle finish. Bound and blocks and 70s period pup position and windings. It’s never been out of the house and still has the plastic film on the pickguard. I haven’t seen one of these for sale, they ain’t common, so I’ve priced it accordingly with a sensible reduction on new (if you could find one…..). Condition is ‘new’. Ive only got the Fender gig bag with this and have used the shipping box for another mission so it’s collect or close meet up only I’m afraid. Weight is about 9lb3oz. The only trade option I would consider is a Sterling shortscale Stingray with cash my way.

I’ve got 2 Sandberg Lionel basses that are pretty much identical other than the strings (and colour). Both alder bodies, maple neck with rosewood boards. They weigh the same to within 3oz. Both passive with Black label pups. They sound pretty different…the one with EBMM slinkies is smoother, less punchy, the one with stock Sandberg strings is much harsher - they’ll be coming off at the weekend.

A fairly quiet one at a social club on the outskirts of Huddersfield last night, a bit of a come down after last weeks bikers rally. Our singist really had to work it to get them up an running and even more to keep em up. Still nowt wrong with the odd paid practice. First outing with the new Sandberg Lionel, didn’t have chance to change the stock strings to my short scale slinkies but they did the job. Amazing how much difference they can make the sound on identical basses in a gig setting…first time I’ve done a direct comparison at a gig.

Thought I’d post the latest acquisition as not everyone peruses the short scale thread. This is a soft aged Lionel in gold that supplements my white aged version. I’d originally ordered a shell pink active one that was awesome but it unfortunately had a cosmetic defect and had to be returned, the gold one was taken in exchange. The shorties collection has now been reduced to these 2 and they are a good fit, sound, weight and playability wise for the current gig activities. Done spending now (hopefully)….

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

The original intent was an active Lionel, sadly I had to return it as it had a cosmetic defect, fortunately the vendor had the gold one in stock so I took that in exchange. I’m happy enough though, I’ve been gigging the white one for a couple of months and was so impressed I sold my Fallout and Mustangs and went for another Lionel. -

I got chills…they’re multiplying….. -
I'm using a Lionel VS4, virgin white, soft core aged - light as a feather and great sound. I've got another one coming this week, Lionel VS4 active, shell pink, not aged - unfortunately it had to go back a few weeks back as it had a cosmetic flaw which is now hopefully resolved. I'll post it on the Sandberg thread with a bit of luck.

Thanks Dave, it was, I used my Little Marcus to DI and monitors. Sound was a bit confused on stage - but managed. Used the Sandberg, still loving this bass even with the black label pup. It’s backup should turn up later this week - I felt exposed just taking one bass….
