1. If I could get on with 5s I'd be having this. US Subs, cracking basses, mines still my goto bass GLWTS
2. Once you go headless on a Status all other basses feel clumsy!
3. You're not making this easy Ash. Really don't think it would look right in my Glam Rock band though. Must resist!
4. Great bass at a great price. Wish I could justify another Status GLWTS
5. Definitely noticed this sort of thing on gigs. For example, I was in a fairly large pub on Saturday and had an awful sound on stage for some reason and I was all backline, nothing though the desk. No matter how I EQ'd I couldn't dial out the harsh middy sound I had. Did the best that I could and decided to compromise. During the gig I went out front with the wireless pack and noticed I had a great sound in the mix...just the right level of punch and definition and no harshness whatsoever.
6. Had my 2010 4003 for about 4 years now, I don't use it that often on gigs, mainly as it's in good nick and I usually play in confined spaces. I love the sound and the look, not the most ergonomic of basses but not as bad as some people make out, horses for courses I guess. Hope you gel with yours!
7. Don't ever leave Blue, place wouldn't be the same without you.
8. That is a thing of beauty and would look great in my Glam Rock themed band. Wish I had the cash. GLWTS
9. Treb, the Sub Sterling USA model was made alongside the Ray Subs but had a shorter build run I think so not that many in circulation. A strange beast, 3 band active EQ but no switching like the full fat US Sterling. Also, it has 22 frets like a Sterling but is a 6 bolt neck rather than a 5 bolt. They don't come up often used, I think they are typically £450 - £500 for a decent example.
10. Cheers McN, I will do at some point.
11. You 2 - GET A ROOM!!! One, thing though McN, which way is the pup wired in the EBMM Sterling SUB USA? Mines got the 3 band EQ but seems to have more depth and punch than previous EBMM full fat Rays I've previously owned.
12. Damn, I was passing Gloucester on my way up from Sth Wales yesterday and could have picked this beauty up.....GLWTS
13. I think if you've set your heart on a 'proper' US of A Ray then nothing else will satisfy you. The Sterling Ball basses are good value for money and tick most of the boxes but if you have the cash then I'd go a used US model. I've got a US EBMM and a US SUB, both good basses and will last a lifetime of playing should you not suffer serious bouts of GAS. The US SUB models are good value for money if you can get past the aesthetics.
14. Very nice D, can't beat the Ray/Status combo
15. Great price, wish I was passing somewhere close in the near future. GLWTS
16. A solid 2.something here. I think I've got my bass playing to the level required for the bands I play in, sure I could always improve various aspects of my playing but now I concentrate more on the performance, particularly backing vox and visuals.
17. Plus 1 on Treb's suggestion. I find the use of 2 8ohm 1x12 cabs on my LM3 to offer a good practical solution. 1 cab for rehearsals 2 for gigs, the sound of 2 is much fuller and punchier - I don't put this down to the power output difference, more the amount of air being shifted.
18. I'm usually ok with BV but find that some basslines interfere with the process for some inexplicable reason. For example no problem with BV on Come up and see me (Make me smile) but losing it on something simple like I love rock and roll. Go figure....
19. Also got one of these, in the 'Cinnamon' colour. Quite rare I believe, gets gigged every weekend.....cracking bass. GLWTS
20. A thing of beauty that G.....don't live to regret it mate
21. I once 'failed' the audition because I turned up with a Status Streamline. Mind it was a Mod tribute......
22. Dyerseve - there's a difference between inappropriate comments and trolling or making thinly guarded accusations.
23. I like a low set up. I think here in damp south Yorkshire it seems to depend more on the bass than anything. My MM sub USA seem to like a 1/4 turn every few months but quickly stabilises but the MM Ray Fretless needs adjustment only once every couple of years. I haven't adjusted the neck on my Status in 7 years........
24. I use two of the NY121s with an LM3 which I guess must be pretty similar to the 4 ohm NY122 set up? I get a cracking sound out of this set up with more than enough headroom to compete against loud drummer/guitar. I thought about going the 122 route but decided the separates gave me a bit more flexibility, that said I rarely use a single cab except at the odd rehearsal
25.
It happens to most of us, all gigs are not great. It's a part of the business. You play your best regardless , get paid and go home. All it takes is one "hot gig" and you'll feel great again Blue
I know you're right Blue but on this occasion it was unfortunate that I'd played the same venue the week before as a dep (albeit in full stage wear so I wasn't recognised second time around) and had a blast. Think it's given me the impetus to do something about it.
