1. Got one of these meself - superb basses, MM quality on a budget!
2. Up for grabs is my excellent condition Akai Miniak 3 octave synth. This was bought for an 80s tribute project as it was ideal has it has great early 80s synth models - particularly the Korg models which were great for Ultravox covers. Sadly I'm no longer part of this project and it seems a crime to let this keyboard sit in my man cave in its case. The keyboard comes in a great condition SKB semi-hard case which, as you can see from the pic is a great fit. I'm looking for £200 with the SKB case; I'd prefer pick up or close meet up but would be prepared to courier if the buyer arranges this and is adequately insured. Below is the website blurb on this iconic little keyboard. The MINIAK is a powerful performance and production synthesizer. The MINIAK empowers creative musicians with phrase and step sequencing, a built-in drum machine/rhythm sequencer, an arpeggiator, a 40-band vocoder, stereo effects, and a virtual analog synth engine developed in partnership with the world-class Alesis synth team. While the compact, portable synth shines on stage, the MINIAK is also at home in the production studio delivering 24-bit audio resolution. The MINIAK puts up to eight multi-timbral voices at your fingertips, each with three oscillators. You can create interesting and unique sounds and take advantage of the more-than-600 preset sounds and store up to 1,000 programs in the MINIAK. The synth also has two multi-mode filters, three envelope generators, two LFOs, stereo effects, and a 40-band vocoder. On top of all of this sound-melding power, the MINIAK has a comprehensive sequencer with step and dynamic real time phrase sequencing, a drum machine/rhythm sequencer, and an arpeggiator to aid in creating the landscapes and textures you’re after. Rounding out this complete instrument are high-resolution, 24-bit balanced 1/4" inputs and outputs. The MINIAK has a 37-key semi-weighted keyboard with velocity sensitivity for all-in-one performance. It can also be used as a sound source for MPCs, computer software, and keyboards via MIDI. - See more at: http://www.akaipro.com/product/miniak#sthash.oXPxK09K.dpuf
3. They are cracking basses, my US Sub Sterling, despite being the ugly duckling in by armory, gets most of my gig work. GLWTS
4. LM3 front panel (Italian made) also metal.....even in the MB bag the corners get a bit scuffed showing the aluminium construction
5. Wow, 10 years for me also.......not including the time I did on Bassworld (and Basstalk...)
6. But. I can't play the bass because the frets are cutting my fingers. It's not that they haven't been smoothed - they are fine if you run your finger over them in a direction from the strings towards the back of the neck. But in the other direction there are tiny edges which are causing my cuts Just bought one of these myself, exactly the same problem. Fret dress sorted it no problem
7. Thanks for this guys - about what I was hoping for.
8. Just picked up a new Squier bass, lovely thing for the money but could do with the fret ends dressing as there's some sharp bits. What spend should I expect for such a job, no other set up work needed?
9. Nice score Y5S. Ive just picked up a 4 string version of this. Very nice basses for the price, still working out the electronics though.
10. Named after the 'anti satellite missile'? I always thought it stood for 'Another Strat, Another Tele'.
11. My Akai Miniak, bought to play one finger lines with an 80s band I've now left. Not been out of its case for well over a year but still think I'll need it the day after I sell it!
12. I managed to pick up a used Promethean head D, not quite as light or compact but seems to be more than adequate, you could do a lot worse.
13. I'd looked at one of these as a gig backup head but became aware of the extending timeline for availability, pity would've been perfect.
14. ^This! I lost in an audition because I turned up with a 'toy' bass (my Status Streamline).
15. If I could get on with 5s I'd be having this. US Subs, cracking basses, mines still my goto bass GLWTS
16. Once you go headless on a Status all other basses feel clumsy!
17. You're not making this easy Ash. Really don't think it would look right in my Glam Rock band though. Must resist!
18. Great bass at a great price. Wish I could justify another Status GLWTS
19. Definitely noticed this sort of thing on gigs. For example, I was in a fairly large pub on Saturday and had an awful sound on stage for some reason and I was all backline, nothing though the desk. No matter how I EQ'd I couldn't dial out the harsh middy sound I had. Did the best that I could and decided to compromise. During the gig I went out front with the wireless pack and noticed I had a great sound in the mix...just the right level of punch and definition and no harshness whatsoever.
20. Had my 2010 4003 for about 4 years now, I don't use it that often on gigs, mainly as it's in good nick and I usually play in confined spaces. I love the sound and the look, not the most ergonomic of basses but not as bad as some people make out, horses for courses I guess. Hope you gel with yours!
21. Don't ever leave Blue, place wouldn't be the same without you.
22. That is a thing of beauty and would look great in my Glam Rock themed band. Wish I had the cash. GLWTS
23. Treb, the Sub Sterling USA model was made alongside the Ray Subs but had a shorter build run I think so not that many in circulation. A strange beast, 3 band active EQ but no switching like the full fat US Sterling. Also, it has 22 frets like a Sterling but is a 6 bolt neck rather than a 5 bolt. They don't come up often used, I think they are typically £450 - £500 for a decent example.
