1. Easy to generalise, a Ray can be rock solid at the deep end with us eof the pre and the amp. Hell, even a Rick can be made to sound good using this ;-)
2. I look at EBMM as the sort of 'M&S' of the bass guitar world. Not cheap but high quality and consistent in that quality. If you like the style and the sound then that's great, if not then, as always, it's best to move on and spend your cash differently. I could understand somebody prefering a FenderJ or P because of the sound compared to a Ray but not because of the fit and finish.
3.
Great, all under 9lbs then- that's good. They look great, just need to try one now.
My 63J is between 9.5 and 10lb so there is some variation, very well balanced though. Didn't know the necks were Allparts.....can you get Allpart necks with clay dots or are they retrofitted?
4.
What's nice about a relic is another ding doesn't spoil the look of a pristine instrument. I know some people are very fussy about thinga like that. I'm not though. I gig all my gear and if it gets dinged etc, so be it.
Mrs MTB told me the other day that our pet cocker had got into the spare bedroom that houses my Limelight, in all it's relicness, on a stand (so I can admire from afar/have a quick noodle), and had a chew on on it. She let me inspect it for a good 5 minutes trying to distinguish chew marks from relicing before cracking up.
5. Thanks guys. More than happy with the lm3 sound, been on MB for a few years now and haven't found the need to change. Not sure how safe it is to run a gig without a cab attached - thought that was only a problem with Valve heads - anyone any advice?
6. I'm very much a newbie to full PA without backline but it looks like that is the way my current band is going. In the past if ive being going into a house PA I've usually just DI'd from my LM3 which seems to work well enough. Question is would I be better off buying a Sansamp or the like? It wouldnt really be a matter of space as the LM3 is in my kit bag anyway so I wouldn't want to drop £200 or so if there is no need.
7. Spot on K, welcome to the 'Limelight 63 Jazz' club!
8. Surprised this hasn't gone yet. Still don't have the cash!
9.
Genuinely worn basses are cool, faked ones tend to be bought by men of a certain age wealthy enough to buy a fake, too tight to buy the real thing or realised the real things are often awful basses
You calling my pint a m***er?! Actually, I think all 3 of those apply to me.
10. Tiny bit of lemon oil once per year......job done.
11. You could've bought a new one for that ;-)! Just kidding.....looks mega!
12.
I`ve used a Behringer amp & cab, was very good, and a mate has an amp/cab set-up and his sound, with a 68 Jazz is amazing. I`ve also had the BDI21 which was great, and sold my Shure SM58 as I prefer my £18 Behringer mic, XM8500. A mate of mine, who is a lead singer I might add, also did the same.
Funny you mention that I've had a Behringer mic for years and it outclasses the SM58 for clarity........still use mine in preference to one.
13.
oo so tempted by this if it ain't sold to blyn
Wouldn't blame you on that one Andy. Only wish I could get on with P basses ( I seem incapable of getting a decent sound out of one to my damaged ears) - I'd probably be fighting you for it
14. Bit of a daft question but how will the sound differ between switching off the tweeter in the 121 and taking it out of circuit? I always use a pair of 121s with the tweeters 'off' and there always seems to be plenty of punch and top end but no harshness.
15. Getting rare these days that I find a bass to Gas over, but I really wish I had the cash for this.......nostalgia for my long departed JV57 P bass.
16.
marts' '63 j is a magnificent sounding, looking and feeling bass, I met it last night and was totally impressed! ...even if it had been way more expensive than it was!!
Cheers Andy. Always nice to meet a fellow BCer, looking forward to catching you guys when yore playing locally.
17.
Aww... OK then. I thought it was quite good.
It was worth a try! Very nice, don't forget the pics when it's in situ mate?
18.
Lovely. I'd just like to say for the record that there is nothing whatsoever wrong with Limelight tort guards, and Mark does a really excellent relic job on them - it's just that Spitfire guards are so damn luscious, groovy, 3D and extremely desirable! Ohh. Mine's just been despatched from California and is winging it's way to discreet towers as I type...
Nah, that's horrible, feel free to send it to me when it arrives and I'll, um, think of some way of disposing of it.....
19. Didn't think of that EBS, but you're right. I bought my Streamie off Rich (outtoplayjazz) a few years back and it was equipped with 30s. It didn't sound good to me until I got some 40s on it.
20. I've never subscribed to this 'brittleness' in an all carbon construction - I can make my Streamline sound warm enough without judicious EQ. Also my 'all wood' Ric doesn't sound warm at all - so I think the 'tronics have a big say in the final sound.
21. TBH, and trying not to be biassed, I can't see how this is a 'better' construction by Jon....only different, both will no doubt have their pros and cons. Much the same as through-neck better than bolt-on, maple better than rosewood etc.
22. Very beautilicious HJ....as with the rest of the community, skint as a flint!
23. Played a local wine bar that was chokka and rammed full of 10 bob millionaires and TOWIE rejects. Unfortunately the bar owner left the TV running so we were competing against the footy. Despite spirited renditions of Clash, Alarm, Cure, Dexys classics it ws definitely a case of Costa Rica/Netherlands 1: Band 0
