Thanks for the advice. Yes, I'd love a moog but can't really justify one. What about something like the micro korg.....would that stand up?

Any suggestions for a small sub-£200 (used) gig worthy bass synth. Looking to fill the low end on some early 80s electronica. The main keys guy has loads of stuff but only 2 hands....
It's time for Noel to hang up his guitar, buy an organic cheese farm and invite David Cameron over for tipples on New Year's Eve
I think Noel's just got to the point where he's using the tactic of taking a bash at other artistes to deflect from the fact that his output is now pretty mediocre. I believe he sees himself as timeless as Mr Weller - unfortunately I think his best years are behind him. Shame, I quite liked Definitely Maybe.....

I've found that some of it comes down to how it hangs. I had a Warwick Thumb BO4 that was about 8.5lbs and because it was a little neck heavy it felt much heavier than the Stingray 30th I had that was going on 10lb.
='martthebass' All of the 'solids' that have gone through my hands have been 9lbs or more....don't know if this is representative. MB1. ...Is there a doctor in the house?
Trust you Martin to be the first with toilet humour
Desperately looking to buy a Sub 9lb stingray, does such a thing exist?! The blue and white ones are really floating my boat!
Once had an 8lb fretless Ray that was a single piece of ash in a honey burst finish. All of the 'solids' that have gone through my hands have been 9lbs or more....don't know if this is representative.
Think I might have to sell my Burgundy Mist 64 Jazz soon, needs must ...
Oh now you're just being a torment!

Nice one S, I think you've achieved more in 4 years than I have in 35! Be proud!!!

For effects I sometimes find the online demos quite useful - it at least gives some idea of what the effect does. For amps/cabs/basses though i think there are too many variables as already described above. I learned my lesson on this after I bought a Ric 4004Cii online after trawling through online stuff. I couldn't get the bass anywhere near the online demos and ended up trading the bass for a 4003 which uncannily sounded like the online demos of the 4004 when I played it through my rig.
Thanks Gary The first day it was up I had a serious amount of offers, marred by one who thought £500 including delivery was a good offer. Between a fit of pique, and getting used to this (hated) computer I deleted his offer. And ALL my other communications Anyway, if it doesn't go in a few days, I will have a chat with Mark, see what he will offer against Burgundy P,Maple boarded jazz neck. He will then put this one up for sale at £800 Cheers, Karl.
Good Idea Karl. I'm considering something similar myself; one of the good points of dealing with Mark was his buy-back offer. I've got a hankering for a light relic burgundy mist Stack knob Jazz and due to my one in one out policy I will almost certainly look at a trade in when the time comes.

Cheers TG that's very most kind of you!

Just bought a DS1 distortion pedal off evil bay. Unfortunately, despite being described as bedroom use only (sic) I can only consider that the bedroom must have been that of a 300kg gorilla wearing titanium boots. I can live with paint chips (hey, it's a foot pedal) but unfortunately one of the 2 screws that hold the foot pedal is missing. Does anyone have a spare or know where I can source one? Thanks, Mart

Status Hotwire flats 40s - 100s on my Ray (though it is a fretless). Plenty of zing and low - medium tension.
What would be really interesting is a 'before you joined basschat' and an 'after you've been on basschat a while' picture.
No it wouldn't, if my wife saw my post she'd throw my iPad and laptop in the bin ;-)
We set a price and didn't get it so I'll be going to see my mates band.. Free entry so don't feel obliged to stay forever ..
Ditto this end. First year I haven't played NYE in I can't remember when.
Powered speakers have always worried me - it all looks fine when it's on a stage where you have control - put it 'down there' and watch some village idiot do something silly/terminal.....I'll stick with amps and string - it's easier, long-term.....
I was looking at actives, decided, after auditioning Mackies, RCFs etc that I'd only be satisfied with QSC as a minimum. With that level of cash outlay I decided it was sensible to look at passive with a decent power amp setup. Ended up with HK Audio Pro 12s with a Powered A&H desk and haven't regretted it.
-
I've moved from single 15 to 2 x 12 and not regretted it. Not exactly answering your question but I don't have any problem being heard above a loud drummer and loud guitarist in a pub scenario. I find using 2 12s rather than a single cab option to be more flexible.

Basses In/Basses Out 2014 - And What You've Learned......
martthebass replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
Out........Squier VM 77 Jazz In.........Limelight 63 Jazz The quietest year I've had on BC for basses since I joined right at the beginning of BC. Part of the reason is that I seem to have all the tools I need at the minute and the Jazz swap out was just tweaking. The other part was that I've (unfortunately) used the gig cash putting the band PA together, sorting my own liightweight bass rig and building a small suite of effects. The big revelation this year has been the Limelight bass, I've had a fair few jazzes over the years, of all nationalities, but I never realised there were so many nuances in the JB sound palette until I got this one. -
Anyone seen this? http://femurdesign.com/theremin/
Love that KB.....very 1950s Forbidden Planet
