1. I picked up this bass new from GAK last year basically because I was missing my US AVRI 75 Jazz which I had sold to buy a Ric (yes we all make mistakes....). To be honest my expectations wern't high but the bass has very much impressed me, so much that I decided to have a 63 Jazz made by Limelight. Unfortunately I have the rule of one bass in - one bass out so this has to go. It's in great condition with no chips, dings or scratches beyond the 'swirly' category. After a set up and nut filing the bass plays great with a low-medium action with no buzz at all. The neck is very nice, very well finished gloss laquer, blocks and binding - amazed that Fender can do that at this price point. I will very much miss this bass, I used it last night at a local pub gig and it has that lovely attack and growl that I love in a Jazz, I'd originally planned to swap out the pups but I've really found no need for that. For some reason the uploader doesn't want to play with my iPad at the minute so I'll get the pics up as soon as I can get to my laptop. Anyway, £175 is the asking price, I'd prefer collection or meet up but will post in the original packing box at the buyers expense.
2. Well mine is now ready other than the set up so I'll be getting to grips with her next week. In the end it's on the heavy side of medium-relic as I took one that was nearly finished. The body is heavy relic, the neck medium and the metal work is tarnished but not rusty or gunky in line with my original spec. Anyway this is worthless without pics, so here we go:
3. Just been informed mine will be turning up early..hopefully next week. Will post pics when available!
4. These are seriously nice.....loved the one you have too Martin. GLWTS
5. Marmite.......but I love marmite, especially with a nice mature cheddar.
6. Put the deposit down on my build earlier this week. 63 Jazz clone, medium relic, black, rosewood with clay dots, hardware tarnished but not rusty/gunky. It'll be replacing my go to VM77 Jazz that regenerated my love for Jazzes. Should get it just in time for the summer season gigs!
7. I had an active ash 'vette a few years back. Found the passive setting more than usable, but the active did give the bass a lot more flexibility in a live setting. If the price is good then go for it.
8. I usually dislike natural finish but that is truly superb!
9.
I prefer Markbass to TC massively in terms of tone, but completely agree with the comments about the hard limiting when you push the volume past half way!
I've not noticed that on the LM3 Chris....is that an 8Ohm thing? I usually run a 4 Ohm load with mine, but to be fair my ears start to bleed and stop functioning if I get much past 2 on the master..:-)
10.
Another example of the variation in Ricks these days - mine nailed the 'classic' tone!
I'm working off a small sample group though CV. I occasionally use a 75 4001 at a local jam and the bridge tone is much deeper and richer than my 4003 with the VTC in circuit. YMMV.
11.
Just wondering, how many 4003 players with the Classic pull tone knob onboard their 4003, use the Classic setting. I've played with it a bit, but never really cared for the sound much. Anyone use theirs?
Not me, mostly I use neck only and the rest of the time both pickups (for songs where I need less cut through). I find the vintage sound far too thin to use in a band setting.....also to my ears it sounds nothing like an early 70s 4001 anyway.
12. Well, ended up taking a punt. 63 Jazz medium relic in black with tortoise guard......we shall see. 3 months build time so it'll be ok in time for the summer outside gigs. Unfortunately due to the one in one out rule a bass will now have to be culled :-(
13. After having no luck whatsoever in securing a used Fender roadworn and no intention of paying (cough) £1000+ for a new one, I'm also looking at Limelight. Feedback seems to be good - any other experiences?
14. Now there's something you don't see every day. You really are tormenting me this weekend Loz! This is the only bass I'd part with my standard Streamline to have, hope this sells before I have chance to second guess myself and sell it!
15. My first proper bass was a Jv57RI 1982. Loved it but couldnt get on with the A width neck. I must resist, I'm a Jazz bass man at heart....I've never been able to get a good sound out of a P....my fault not the bass! Soooooooo tempted at this price!
16.
Apparently not ...
Next time I'll use italics......my attempt at dead pan humour was obviously too subtle.
17. Really wish I had the cash to offer on this Si. Stunning.
18. And we don't bite, have fun.
19.
I'm hooked on 33.3" scale now - big money option though as I only know of Jens Ritter that makes them!
Rickenbacker is 33".................I'll get my coat.
20. Yes you are the only one......I'm assuming your question wasn't rhetorical?
