1. Andy, if you want to try one out locally you're welcome to have a go on mine. Not helping?
2. Cheers, an order for said Halfies sounds like a good idea.....great sound mate!
3. Is that with the stock strings Mark or....?
4. D, could you pm me with an indication of rough costs on the Spitfire pg.....a 50year old one!
5. One thing I did think D was what a great job he's done on the PG. I was in the process of getting a high quality repro but was surprised at the quality of the standard pg and the relicing treatment.
6.
A walking blues ? Like the detail of the broken tip on the (lower front) plate
I think that's the Limelight trade mark ;-)
7. Does that make ours 'limited editions'?
8.
The CMD121P only has the strap style handle because of the integral amp head. As far as I can see all other Markbass cabs and combos have recessed handles*. I would say this makes the case for recessed handles more compelling myself. Just noticed I have a Minimark.. doh...
Part of the reason why I kept my LM3 and got 2 NYC121 cabs........
9. The Limelight I have falls into the heavy relic/trashed category. I dont try to pass it off as a real 63JB but i wanted a reasonably authentic looking 63JB as there was no way I could afford a real YOB Jazz. I got the limelight for 2 other reasons: 1. I couldnt get hold of a Fender RW used and I wasnt paying £1050 for a new one, and 2. I'm a bit precious about pristine basses and I wanted a bass that I wouldnt be precious with at some of the 'funkier' pubs I play. The side benefit is that the bass plays and sounds superb.
10.
...No.
Oh come on, it's black and tort, BLACK and TORT! It's like Laurel and Hardy, Tom and Jerry, Yorkshire and Pudding!
11. Black.......although there's more wood on show than paint.
12. Do try and a-b with RCF Art 312A as well if you can.....
13. Well my 63J got used for the first time in anger on a gig tonight. Got some sniggers from some young tikes because of its 'distressed' looks. That stopped when we opened up.......awesome tone.
14.
If you do buy, or are looking at a Ric from an authorized Rickenbacker dealer, and may be serious about purchasing that Ric, ask to see the Rickenbacker carton that the Ric Axe and case was shipped in from the Rickenbacker factory.
Yup, from what I remember it says 'fragile - glass' on it. Which to a British courier means drop the box a few times to see if it goes crash!
15.
Thanks folks :-) The flats are Lakland Joe Osbornes.
Very nice tone with the flats WoT, I also find the stock round wounds that came with mine are very low output - I assumed it was the pups. What sort of tension are the JOs, I love flats but I like low-medium tension like Status Hotwires, are the JOs similar?
16. Sounds v.similar to my 63 heavy relic WOT.....cept your playing's better! The neck on mine is more satin but still has coat over the wood so the 'sweat' stain is fully sealed. The offset body bit of the decal is on mine so not sure on that one. Nice score mate.
17. Very nice mr Discreet, hope your as happy with your yob jazz as I am with my Limelight yob Jazz. They do sound as good as they look.....if you know what I mean
18.
Oh good lord http://www.classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/basses/limelight00130jbass.htm Nurse, my pills...
The next build after mine. This spec was my second choice. I must stop looking at his site! A couple of weeks on and mine is still getting plenty of play, got a run of gigs in July and can't wait to give it a proper airing in public.
19. My band is in the same place as you are. We were also looking at a budget of about £800 for active 12 tops with a view to add a sub as soon as band funds allowed. We ruled out the Mackie 450V2 s because of the reliability/bad press and the high used price on the earlier Italian made units which left us with RCF 312A or EV ZLX12p. Tried the EVs , very muddy sounding in comparison to our current passive set up (Peavey Hysis 1XT) and the RCF just didn't seem to have enough umph and ran out of steam too early even in our Trio unit with only vox thru the PA. The advisor at Electro Music pretty much said that unless we were going to go for t least Yamaha DSR12 or QSC K12 then we would end up worse off than our current Peavey CS800X/Hysis set up. In the end we concurred and have decided to stay passive but downsize to a lighter amp (running 450W stereo into 8 Ohm) and HK Pro 12 tops.
20. Very nice Nick. Got one a couple of years younger with an almost identically figured neck. These really do sound the dogs....
21. Much as I love my mid blue 4003 I'd love an FG. Nice one SB
22.
Just reading this on my Chinese-made iPad over lunch. Chinese made Mac Mini... Etc.
'Assembled in China'.....designed in California ;-)
23.
You know the Chinese argument doesn't really stack up these days.... I'd stick the ZLX up against anything from a European manufacture base.
As a buyer where I bring lots of stuff in from China I was hoping that would be the case. I'd much rather save some money and get the ZLX over the RCF's......unfortunately my ears said differently so I'm still in save up mode. Just my opinion though someone else could think exactly the opposite.
24. The ZLX are Chinese made - not considered the best stuff from EV. At your price point I'd be looking at the RCF 312A (in fact that's what I'm aiming at at the mo). Alternatively if you can pick up some version 1 Mackie SRM450 (made in Italy not China) these are also well regarded. Beyond that then the QSC K12 but they're above your (and my) budget.
25.
Nah, unfortunately I'm not keen on the MB 800 watt tone...its different to the 500W offerings.
How does it differ G, I was looking at this route down the line with my set up?
