1.
I prefer Markbass to TC massively in terms of tone, but completely agree with the comments about the hard limiting when you push the volume past half way!
I've not noticed that on the LM3 Chris....is that an 8Ohm thing? I usually run a 4 Ohm load with mine, but to be fair my ears start to bleed and stop functioning if I get much past 2 on the master..:-)
2.
Another example of the variation in Ricks these days - mine nailed the 'classic' tone!
I'm working off a small sample group though CV. I occasionally use a 75 4001 at a local jam and the bridge tone is much deeper and richer than my 4003 with the VTC in circuit. YMMV.
3.
Just wondering, how many 4003 players with the Classic pull tone knob onboard their 4003, use the Classic setting. I've played with it a bit, but never really cared for the sound much. Anyone use theirs?
Not me, mostly I use neck only and the rest of the time both pickups (for songs where I need less cut through). I find the vintage sound far too thin to use in a band setting.....also to my ears it sounds nothing like an early 70s 4001 anyway.
4. Well, ended up taking a punt. 63 Jazz medium relic in black with tortoise guard......we shall see. 3 months build time so it'll be ok in time for the summer outside gigs. Unfortunately due to the one in one out rule a bass will now have to be culled :-(
5. After having no luck whatsoever in securing a used Fender roadworn and no intention of paying (cough) £1000+ for a new one, I'm also looking at Limelight. Feedback seems to be good - any other experiences?
6. Now there's something you don't see every day. You really are tormenting me this weekend Loz! This is the only bass I'd part with my standard Streamline to have, hope this sells before I have chance to second guess myself and sell it!
7. My first proper bass was a Jv57RI 1982. Loved it but couldnt get on with the A width neck. I must resist, I'm a Jazz bass man at heart....I've never been able to get a good sound out of a P....my fault not the bass! Soooooooo tempted at this price!
8. Wish I had half his talent.....
9.
Apparently not ...
Next time I'll use italics......my attempt at dead pan humour was obviously too subtle.
10. Really wish I had the cash to offer on this Si. Stunning.
11. And we don't bite, have fun.
12.
I'm hooked on 33.3" scale now - big money option though as I only know of Jens Ritter that makes them!
Rickenbacker is 33".................I'll get my coat.
13. Yes you are the only one......I'm assuming your question wasn't rhetorical?
14. Currently hankering after a Fender RW Jazz in Red. I've recently rekindled my love of Jazzes and this would do until I won the lottery and could afford a 63 Jazz.....
15.
I've ordered one today - so we'll see how we get on.....
I'd keep hold of the original Ric bridge tho SB just in case you decide to sell up at some point. For some reason Ric owners can be a bit touchy about replacement bits ;-)
16.
Very sorry to hear you aren't getting on with the Rick, Muzz. Are you sure you're nut being a bit too hasty to judge? I've been in exactly the situation with basses I have bought sight-unseen, and some of them have grown on me over time, to the extent that I wouldn't part with them now.
+1 My first 4003 went back after 2 weeks because I didn't get on with it (ie. it was too different from my Fenders/Musicmen...). A couple of years on and I acquired the same bass via a convoluted route. It's not my go to bass but I do love it on those 'special occasion' gigs.
17.
It sounds like you might need more speakers....
Adding an extension 2x10 traveller or 1x12 NYC will make a BIG difference....
18. Love my MD 4003 - great colour, would like one of those Walnutty jobbies though...
19.
Whatever I happen to be selling always seems to be out of fashion / no longer favour of the month. I seem to be a trendsetter in reverse
We must be related Mike!!!
20. Hi Chris, Rotherham just off J1 of the M18. Also happy to do a part way meet up if helpful....
21. Nice one Nick!
22. Pics now added!!! Still £350, postage not offered but will meet up within a reasonable distance for fuel contribution :-)
