I'm liking that track! Sadly, it's all too true about what many female musicians have to put up with. The more neanderthal element of the music fan base seem to view women in rock bands as a bit of a gimmick. Here there are quite a few heavy bands with one or two ladies in, but not that many that are all female. However, the heavy rock/hardcore/power metal scene in Japan seems to produce more all-female bands than I would have expected, and mostly with some serious chops in the back pocket. I'm not sure why this is... a respect thing, maybe? Is it that women don't get the crap they do over here? Is it a product of a country where more kids have access to a musical education early on? A mate of mine's sister-in-law worked in Japan and said that proportionately more kids have music lessons from an early age over there, but I've never been so I can't comment.

30 people in there and the place IS crammed. My flat is bigger than that bar! 😆

I don't play covers in bands, so when I do learn a cover it's for the technique/style/fretboard knowledge or whatever, so I learn in its original form.

This is fairly typical of the stages I get to play on. Not much room for manoeuvre without risk of broken ankles/pedal boards/punters... 😆

That's my new band name sorted! Meanwhile.... I would say that most of us are old enough to have found what style suits us playing-wise.

Jason Newsteds abilities were wasted on Metallica

Damn! I'm not that bothered about meeting famous musos or celebs normally, but Henry Rollins is one guy I'd really like to sit down and have a chat with. I've read a fair bit of his writings - he's one interesting dude, and grabbed life by the cojones. -
Just discovered this lot from Mexico. Loving it already! 😎🤘

Whaaaat? No Fernanda Lira any more?

I wouldn't relish the load-in of that Ampeg rig, but I'd sure as hell want to play through it! 😎

Karl Logan was given the heave-ho rather quickly due to his choice of internet entertainment. 🤮 As for Joey.... OK, I take it back, O God of Thunder. 😧

With better playing and no kiddie-fiddlers in the band. 😎

I love some of the TMTLN covers that have been happening. Gina Gleason rocks!

A. Google. Plus AFAIK visual kei bands don't tend tag themselves as 'all-female', they tend to not mention gender, or they give a nod to their kabuki theater influences. B. Versailles are great! Discovered them 2 or 3 years ago. Not a massive fan of Kamijo's vox, but the playing is superb. The fact that Hizaki wears a dress really doesn't affect my appreciation of the music. Not heard of Malice Mizer, I'll check it out later. 🙂

Bloody hell! There's badassery of all kinds happening here. Respect! 🤘

Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?

Why is a marriage like a tornado? It starts off with lots of blowing and sucking and ends up with you losing your house. Classic. 😎 -
Being an early disciple of the Steve Harris/Geddy Lee/Flea school, I've always been a fingers player. I've experimented with a pick, but it wasn't for me - I found it a little cumbersome across strings (I use a lot of octaves) and certain damping techniques were lost to me. Some people play their stuff fantastically with a pick - horses for courses and all that It's all about the music - I couldn't give a monkey's chuff HOW people get there.

Excellent. The jobs market is crying out for Beatles specialists. I'm all in favour of doing a degree purely for the enjoyment of the subject matter, but it's only going to attract those with the appropriate amount of disposable income to spend on it... unless you can get some sort of Arts Council grant... A bit of a niche market, but why not if that's yer bag and you fancy another year on the p!ss?... 🙃 😜

Woo.... I like that! 😎

An unexpected Skunk Anansie set hove into view, courtesy of YouTube algorithm. Result!!

Even if you didn't like the music, it has a certain appeal..... although the lass at the front looks a little too much like Vinnie Vincent for comfort... 😬

Hell yes! Back in the day, Live After Death became the standard by which all other live albums were measured among the local rock aficionados of West Cornwall.

Did you ever buy an album purely on the strength of the album cover? The only time I can remember doing that was for the Scorpions' Worldwide Live album. I was 15 years old and into all things metal, and the rawk poses struck by the 'Teutonic Terrors', as Kerrang! later referred to them, was enough to get me to part with my hard-earned Spar Shop employee wonga. Bloody glad I did. I loved it and still do!

I'll have to check that out...

What is your most listened-to live album? Mine has got to be Rush's A Show Of Hands. Been listening to that baby since I was about 19, and it's still a regular now, decades later. Honourable mentions: Iron Maiden - Live After Death - played through 2 cassette copies of that in my youth, but I haven't played it regularly in years. Scorpions - Worldwide Live - Still an occasional listen....
