Excellent. The jobs market is crying out for Beatles specialists. I'm all in favour of doing a degree purely for the enjoyment of the subject matter, but it's only going to attract those with the appropriate amount of disposable income to spend on it... unless you can get some sort of Arts Council grant... A bit of a niche market, but why not if that's yer bag and you fancy another year on the p!ss?... 🙃 😜

Woo.... I like that! 😎

An unexpected Skunk Anansie set hove into view, courtesy of YouTube algorithm. Result!!

Even if you didn't like the music, it has a certain appeal..... although the lass at the front looks a little too much like Vinnie Vincent for comfort... 😬

Hell yes! Back in the day, Live After Death became the standard by which all other live albums were measured among the local rock aficionados of West Cornwall.

Did you ever buy an album purely on the strength of the album cover? The only time I can remember doing that was for the Scorpions' Worldwide Live album. I was 15 years old and into all things metal, and the rawk poses struck by the 'Teutonic Terrors', as Kerrang! later referred to them, was enough to get me to part with my hard-earned Spar Shop employee wonga. Bloody glad I did. I loved it and still do!

I'll have to check that out...

What is your most listened-to live album? Mine has got to be Rush's A Show Of Hands. Been listening to that baby since I was about 19, and it's still a regular now, decades later. Honourable mentions: Iron Maiden - Live After Death - played through 2 cassette copies of that in my youth, but I haven't played it regularly in years. Scorpions - Worldwide Live - Still an occasional listen....

A bit a epic rap metal from back in the day. Love this track! OOOF!!

Poison at Donington 1990. They were sh!te so me and my mate departed for a slash and a burger before coming back for Aerosmith, who were ace!

Motorhead at Plymouth Pavilions a few years back. Jesus that was loud.... and I had plugs in.

Did you ever go to a gig to see the support band rather than the headline act? I went to see the Scorpions, who were opening for Judas Priest. I also went to see Sabaton opening for Dragonforce. Anyone else?...

Then you get someone like Billy Sheehan who can pick like a machine gun with 4 fingers.... I couldn't say how many strikes per minute he was racking up though....

This reminds me of Hairy Palm in one of the Cheech and Chong films before he entered the Fist Of Fury competition....

Which drummer you would like to have played with?

Dave Weckl, Jojo Meyer, Neil Peart and at the heavier end Mike Portnoy, Baard Kolstad from Leprous, and Vladislav Ulasevich from Jinjer. -

I would say so. I've got a lot out of them - I became a 'Lifer' for about £120 three years ago. There's quite a few free lessons licking around - maybe have a look through those and see if his style works for you. He has a few detractors but I find his way of doing things works well for me - plus there are many other tutors doing lessons for him too. -

Yup. A disappointingly common experience... -
Redneck Slipknot..... or something....

This. With all the talk about less venues and/or the inevitable stampede to book gigs when venues do reopen, do you really want to be the guy who holds the band back because you didn't have your sh*t together in time? -
A recent discovery. Cammie Gilbert's vocals are what make this different for me...

It's both really... it's the getting off my butt and being creative that takes me somewhere else, and outside of the daily stuff.... as opposed to just zoning out, where real ale fulfils that side of things 🙂 -

Indeed. But doesn't that rather assume that there will be no future gigs? Music has always been something I do more for its own sake rather than attention or money. It calms me and takes me somewhere outside of the daily grudgery. -

A quick survey among my music-playing friends has revealed that 'haven't got the time' morphed into 'can't be ar$ed' really quickly. It is understandable that motivation can be an issue, but isn't it better to treat the down-time as an opportunity? (normal caveats apply!) -
Agreed. Electrical tape would be the first thing on my list to try. Good luck, smaz!!

Hell yes. I haven't even been off work, but the lack of rehearsals plus gym closures means I have been able to delve into the Rush and Iron Maiden catalogues and polish up my chops. I've also delved into SBL's jazz bass material too. I've learned loads! 😁
