  1. File under 'Iconic'. Technically not that good, but brings something to the party somehow... I lost interest after they discovered the concept of the arena anthem. I don't blame them one bit, but the stuff I've heard since just didn't tickle my nads in the same way as earlier stuff.
  2. The only xmas songs I would ever consider would be Kevin Bloody Wilson's little ditties.
  3. I'm waiting til the girlyfriend comes round tonight before I go for full viewage. She loves Vulfpeck and she'll be all over this like John Prescott on a pork pie.
  4. I went on stage in shorts like that, I'd be kicked out of my band! 😂
  5. Not sure what this is, but our guitarist showed it to us last night.... sort of goes from the ridiculous to the sublime and back again.... I'm still lost for words.... 👽
  6. A couple of weeks ago I had a very fortuitous suggestion from my tablet while surfing youtube at some ungodly hour before work. I stumbled across a Polish band called Riverside. This will be old news to many, I'm sure. However, I found them to be right up my street... if I had to liken them to other bands, I would say that it's like Tool, Porcupine Tree and Pink Floyd had a baby. That might not all be apparent from one track, but there is a great whole gig to be had if anyone is interested. Suffice it to say, I've ordered their back catalogue for myself....
  7. Bloke gets onstage around 2:45.... Maynard dispenses some Jitsu and continues to sing while having the guy locked down....
  8. The Enemy Within by Rush. Just don't ask me to sing, as I sound like a dying cow.
  9. Mates in this band. We don't often go out as a bunch as we've all got lives separate from the overlap of mutual friends. Other bands, not so much... more colleagues, I guess...
  10. Over the last couple of years I have noticed an increase in instances of 'can me and my mate play a few songs during the break?' Not tanked up necessarily, but a variation on the theme, I guess. The trouble lies in getting the buggers offstage again, especially if the pub is full of their mates. Best avoided, methinks....
  11. The singer in one local band is a powerlifter and ex-doorman. On more than one occasion, a tanked-up stage invader has been launched back over the monitors... great to see, and greeted with a roar of approval by other punters. Life in Penzance!
  12. ... at which point he could change it to the possibly more apt Rikki Stynx.....
  13. I wasn't anything like good enough for my first band, but I played within my limits and learned as much as I could along the way. It's a steep learning curve, but it does concentrate the mind and the fingers!! But then I was 19 and had less considerations and more attitude!
  14. I've only ever experienced Devin Townsend in the context of metal and/or space opera. Here he's teamed up with someone and they've produced some sort of folky, trippy, but somehow haunting thing that I'm not sure I can adequately define... but I like it!
  15. Can't go wrong with a bit of A Twisted Christmas.... 🤩
  16. I listened to him years ago when he was starting out, lost interest when he joined Poison, and on discovering Winery Dogs realised once again how good he is!
  17. Sometimes it's not a bad thing to draw a line underneath one band and think about the next, assuming you have options, that is. Fresh start, fresh ideas etc...
  18. Draw your own conclusions...
  19. I agree. I used to mod on another non-music-related site, and mod quality makes a huge difference to the operation of a decent forum.
  20. I can't decide whether I ever liked this or not, but the damn thing wouldn't leave my head when I was a wee laddie...
  21. A local multi-instrumentalist guy I'd never met (but should have done, as we were in the same social circles) put up a post on the local FB musician finder page that he was looking to get back into playing drums, and does anyone fancy a jam? I replied yes, we had a great jam, chatted about what we were into, and who we could get into the band guitar-wise. We both came up with the same name, and that guitarist had just finished with another band and had a female singer in tow from said band. We're still together 3 years later writing our own stuff, gigging and loving it. No egos, no wanting to be a star, everybody gets input, and we all get on very well. Never thought I'd see the day....
